Chapter 28 Returning Home
Mu Jincheng quietly observed Su Xiwan, his thoughts drifting back to the simple investigation he had done on her a few days ago. He also looked at her living environment and couldn’t help but feel even more heartbroken for her.
“Yueyue, you are my sister, the child we’ve been searching for for eighteen years. All these years, we’ve been searching for you all over the country, but we never imagined that you would have been switched at birth with the Su family’s child. We never imagined that you would be in Beijing, so close to us!” Mu Jincheng’s voice was filled with emotion, guilt, and excitement, his eyes slightly red.
Su Xiwan, seeing Mu Jincheng’s sadness, felt a surge of impulse to comfort him, but the words got stuck in her throat. This instinctive reaction surprised even her. Was it because of the bond of blood that made her feel this way? It made her want to comfort him, not wanting to see him sad and heartbroken.
“Well… it wasn’t something you guys wanted to happen, so it’s not your fault,” Su Xiwan said softly, her voice gentle and firm.
Mu Jincheng, seeing Su Xiwan trying to comfort him, felt a surge of gratitude. He silently vowed to take good care of his sister, showering her with all his love and care.
Mu Jincheng looked at his phone, realizing that his father hadn’t sent him a message yet. He must still be taking care of his mother’s emotions. Mu Jincheng frowned slightly, then slowly told Su Xiwan about the events of that day, including how she had been switched with Su Miaowen at birth and how Su Miaowen was then taken away by bad people while staying with the Mu family.
When Su Xiwan heard Mu Jincheng’s words, she wasn’t too surprised. Actually, when she saw Su Miaowen, she had sensed these things. However, because she had a karmic connection with Su Miaowen, and this matter was also related to the Mu family, she didn’t see things clearly.
Moreover, she wasn’t sure how the Mu family would treat her, and she didn’t want to reveal too much about her knowledge of esoteric arts. So, regarding the past, she decided to remain silent, observe secretly, and make further plans when the time was right.
When Mu Jincheng received the message from Mu Hongtao, he had also told Su Xiwan about their search for her over the years, as well as his mother Jiang Xingman’s health condition.
After listening to Mu Jincheng’s account, Su Xiwan fell silent for a while. She hadn’t expected that while she was suffering from cold violence in the Su family, her family had been searching for her tirelessly. This realization made her feel mixed emotions. There was a sense of warmth, but also a sense of injustice for the hardships she had endured.
Mu Jincheng, seeing Su Xiwan’s silence, felt a little uneasy. After all, from the time he arrived, he had been doing most of the talking, while Su Xiwan had been mostly silent. He didn’t know what was going on in her mind, whether she was willing to truly integrate into this family.
Mustering his courage, Mu Jincheng looked at Su Xiwan and asked tentatively, “Yueyue, can you come home with me now? Mom and Dad are waiting for you at home. After we got the results from the hospital, Dad wanted to come pick you up with me, but he was afraid that Mom wouldn’t be able to handle this sudden surprise, so he went back to tell Mom slowly that we found you.”
Su Xiwan looked at Mu Jincheng, who was looking at her with cautious concern. She couldn’t bring herself to refuse, nor did she want to. After all, they were related by blood. People in the esoteric world valued karma above all else, so even for the sake of this karma, she had to return to the Mu family. She also wanted to find out the truth about being switched at birth and the reason why Su Miaowen was abducted by bad people.
Moreover, she felt a sense of familial care from Mu Jincheng, something she had never experienced before. So, she was also curious to know how her biological parents would treat her.
She had thought that she had long since grown cold and indifferent towards family, having no hope left. The way the Su family had treated her before had made her lose all faith in family. But she didn’t know why, at this moment, she had started to feel a glimmer of expectation for family.
This feeling made her recall the past in the Su family. She had envied how Fang Qinghui was loved by the two Su brothers. During parent-teacher meetings, she had envied other parents who showed love and concern for their children. When she passed by the playground in the park on her way to and from school, she had countless times envied children who had their parents with them…
Somehow, Su Xiwan felt a bitter taste in her mouth. But then she remembered Mu Jincheng’s look of heartache and concern when he looked at her just now, and a spark of hope rekindled within her.
So, under Mu Jincheng’s expectant gaze, Su Xiwan nodded.
Mu Jincheng, seeing Su Xiwan agree to go home with him, felt his heart finally settle. He let out a sigh of relief and smiled, his eyes shining with joy.
“Then, Yueyue, let’s go back to Mom and Dad’s place now. I bet they’re already eagerly waiting to see you!”
And so, with a hint of confusion about the future, Su Xiwan got into Mu Jincheng’s car. On the way, Mu Jincheng kept talking to Su Xiwan about the Mu family, trying to help her get to know this family she was about to join.
Su Xiwan listened quietly to Mu Jincheng’s narration. She didn’t know much about the Mu family in Beijing. After all, when she was with the Su family, she never attended any banquets, and no one ever mentioned anything about the wealthy circles in Beijing.
Later, she was busy learning Xuan shu and making money to support herself, so she didn’t have time to pay attention to things outside of her life and studies.
The car drove along, and when Mu Jincheng parked it in front of their villa, Su Xiwan saw Mu Hongtao standing in the yard, with a woman beside him.
When they saw the car stop, Su Xiwan noticed the excitement in Mu Hongtao’s eyes and the tears shimmering in the woman’s eyes.
Su Xiwan looked at her through the car window. The usually calm Su Xiwan felt a storm of emotions swirling within her, unable to calm down. Seeing the somewhat frail woman outside the window and the excitement and heartache in her eyes, Su Xiwan felt as if something was clutching at her heart, making it tighten and ache. She… must be her biological mother.
Just as Su Xiwan was confused by this unfamiliar feeling, Mu Jincheng had already parked the car.
Mu Hongtao and Jiang Xingman quickly surrounded the car. Mu Hongtao quickly opened the car door for Su Xiwan.
Su Xiwan looked at Mu Hongtao and Jiang Xingman, both with excited faces. She suppressed the unfamiliar feeling in her heart and softly said, “Thank you.”
Mu Hongtao, looking excitedly at Su Xiwan getting out of the car, reached out to shield her from the car roof, his voice trembling as he said, “Yue… Yueyue, I’m your father. Welcome home!”
As Mu Hongtao spoke, his eyes welled up with tears. They had waited so long for this day, their whole family.
