Chapter 3 The Heartlessness of Su Fu and Su Mu
Su Xiwan was packing her bags alone in her room. Actually, she didn’t have much to pack. The clothes in her closet were few and far between, and most of them were from her childhood. Those clothes were the few things the Su family had prepared for her during her childhood.
Compared to the designer clothes that filled the closets of other members of the Su family, her clothes seemed so shabby, a world apart. But when she was little, she longed for the love of her parents, so even though those clothes were too small for her, she had kept them all along.
Later, when she learned the mystic arts and realized that Su Fu and Su Mu weren’t her real parents, she no longer had any affection for the clothes in her closet.
Even though the Su family never bought her clothes or gave her pocket money, she never said anything. It wasn’t hers in the first place, so she didn’t need to care too much.
Just as Su Xiwan was packing her things in an orderly manner, she heard Zhou Sao’s voice coming from outside.
“Miss Wanwan, can I come in?”
“Aunt Zhou, come in.” Su Xiwan wasn’t surprised by Zhou Sao’s voice.
After Zhou Sao gently pushed open the door and entered, her face was full of gratitude and relief after escaping a near-death experience. She quickly walked over to Su Xiwan and said excitedly, “Miss Wanwan, I’m here to thank you. Yesterday, I’m so grateful that I listened to your advice and took the main road. Otherwise, my old life would have been lost under that tanker truck!”
Su Xiwan carefully examined Zhou Sao’s face. Seeing that her forehead was back to normal and no longer as dark as yesterday, she said with peace of mind, “Aunt Zhou, you should thank yourself. You were able to listen to my advice, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to save you.”
Yesterday, Su Xiwan saw that Zhou Sao would face a calamity, but because she had taken the initiative to look at her face, she could only give her a hint and couldn’t say too much.
After Zhou Sao thanked Su Xiwan again and her emotions gradually calmed down, she saw the packed backpack on Su Xiwan’s bed and couldn’t help but ask with a look of concern, “Miss, what are you…?”
Seeing the worry in Zhou Sao’s eyes, Su Xiwan smiled and said to her, “Aunt Zhou, I’m leaving the Su family. I want to thank you for taking care of me all these years.”
Hearing that Su Xiwan was leaving, Zhou Sao couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Then, she looked worried and asked with concern, “Miss, I heard that the new one was found in an orphanage. If you leave the Su family, wouldn’t you be homeless too?”
“Aunt Zhou, don’t worry. I have a place to stay.”
Hearing Su Xiwan say this, Zhou Sao seemed to suddenly think of something. She quickly took out a red envelope that she had prepared from her pocket and handed it to Su Xiwan, saying earnestly, “Miss Wanwan, this is a small token of my appreciation. I want to thank you for saving my life last night.”
Su Xiwan looked at the red envelope Zhou Sao handed her. She estimated that it had about two thousand yuan. For Zhou Sao, who worked as a housekeeper, two thousand yuan was already a lot.
Su Xiwan smiled and took the red envelope. She took out a bill from it and then put the red envelope back into Zhou Sao’s hand. “Aunt Zhou, this is enough for me.”
Actually, deep down, she didn’t want to accept Zhou Sao’s money, but after all, she had saved her yesterday. If she didn’t accept it, both of them would be burdened with karma, so she had to accept the money.
But she couldn’t take it for nothing. Su Xiwan thought for a moment and took out a Wenchang amulet and a protective amulet from her backpack and handed them to Zhou Sao. “Aunt Zhou, this is a protective amulet, and this is a Wenchang amulet. I remember that your daughter will be taking the college entrance exam soon. When she goes to the exam hall, have her wear this. It can help her perform beyond her expectations.”
After the near-death experience yesterday, Zhou Sao had already fully believed Su Xiwan’s words. She excitedly took the two amulets and then handed the red envelope back to Su Xiwan. “Miss Wanwan, I know that these amulets cost a lot of money to buy. I don’t know if this money is enough. If it’s not enough, I’ll go get more for you!”
Su Xiwan looked at Zhou Sao and gently pushed the red envelope back. Her eyes were firm as she said, “These two amulets are my gift to you. By the way, Aunt Zhou, I still want to tell you that the Su family is no longer a good place from today onwards. If you can find another job, leave the Su family as soon as possible.”
Su Xiwan said this because she had keenly sensed upon her return that the Su family’s house was no longer as auspicious as it used to be, and there was a faint aura of black energy surrounding it.
She carefully examined the various ornaments in the living room and found that their positions hadn’t changed. She wondered how the Su family’s fortune could have suddenly changed?
Hearing Su Xiwan’s words, Zhou Sao knew that she was saying this for her own good. She thought for a moment and said, “Miss, I’ll resign after I finish this month. Miss Wanwan, you have to take care of yourself when you’re out on your own.”
Zhou Sao looked at Su Xiwan with a touch of pity. If it weren’t for the fact that her family of four was crammed into a two-bedroom rental, she would have really wanted Su Xiwan to go home with her.
Su Xiwan seemed to understand Zhou Sao’s thoughts and nodded at her with a smile. It was almost time for her to leave, so she had to go downstairs. After saying goodbye to Zhou Sao, she took her backpack and walked out of the room.
As soon as Su Xiwan went downstairs, she saw the Su family gathered around the dining table having breakfast, including their newly found “real daughter,” Su Miaowen!
Fang Qinghui raised her eyes and saw Su Xiwan. She thought to herself, “What bad luck!” She glanced at Su Xiwan and continued eating. She would deal with whatever she needed to say after she finished her meal.
Su Maoyu said awkwardly, “Xiwan, haven’t you had breakfast yet? Come and have some with us.”
After Su Maoyu finished speaking, he suddenly realized that he hadn’t eaten at the same table with Su Xiwan since she went to junior high school.
At that time, he didn’t know that Su Xiwan had been switched at birth. He suddenly felt that he and his wife had perhaps neglected Su Xiwan too much in the past.
Su Xiwan was about to speak when she heard a sweet voice coming from behind her.
“Dad, is this Xiwan sister? Hello, Sister Xiwan. I’m Su Miaowen. Please give me some advice in the future.”
“What sister is she? She’s not going to be part of our Su family anymore. Wenwen, don’t call her sister.” When Fang Qinghui heard Su Miaowen’s words, she said reprimanding words, but her eyes held a look of indulgence as she looked at Su Miaowen.
“But, Mom…”
Su Miaowen pretended to hesitate and looked at Fang Qinghui. In her heart, she was overjoyed. This woman who had occupied her life for eighteen years was finally leaving. Hehe, she hoped that she would experience all the suffering she had endured.
Su Miaowen thought that even after Su Xiwan left the Su family, she would still find ways to make sure that Su Xiwan wouldn’t have it too easy.
Seeing Su Miaowen’s hesitant look, Fang Qinghui patted her helpless hands and then turned to Su Xiwan with a cold voice, “Su Xiwan, I guess you know now that you’re not our real daughter. Our real daughter has been found, so you’re no longer part of the Su family. I hope you’ll leave on your own. Don’t think about clinging to us. If things get too big, it won’t be good.”
Su Xiwan looked at Fang Qinghui calmly. She glanced at the other members of the Su family who remained indifferent when Fang Qinghui told her to leave, and at the smug look in Su Miaowen’s eyes.
Her voice remained calm and indifferent, “I’ve already prepared to leave the Su family. I don’t have any intention of clinging to you. And there’s nothing in the Su family that I want to stay for.”
Hearing Su Xiwan’s cold words, Fang Qinghui was furious. She glared at Su Xiwan and then looked at Su Maoyu. “Look at that. This is the attitude of the person you want to keep. We’ve raised her for so many years, and she doesn’t know how to be grateful. Instead, she treats us with this kind of attitude.”
Hearing Fang Qinghui’s words, Su Maoyu also felt that Su Xiwan’s attitude was unacceptable. After all, the Su family had raised her for so many years. She shouldn’t treat them with this kind of attitude.
