Chapter 4
The black SUV drove smoothly and slowly down the road, the neon lights of the city flashing past the windows.
Jinwu had thought that a supercar like this would be driven at high speed.
But the speed was surprisingly slow, as if he was taking care of her.
The spacious and large cabin didn’t have that uncomfortable leather smell, nor that pungent scent of perfume.
Only a faint, fresh, clean scent of camellia.
It was a scent she liked.
Jinwu couldn’t help but glance at him.
She hadn’t expected that he, a rebellious cool guy, would like this kind of scent that only little girls would love.
But thanks to this, her initial nervousness gradually eased.
“By the way, you don’t need to follow the navigation on this road, I know a shortcut that’s closer.”
Jinwu sat up straight, about to point him in the direction of the shortcut not far ahead.
Duan Shiyan, already gripping the steering wheel, turned towards the road she had mentioned, “I know.”
He knows?
Jinwu looked at him again, surprised.
Not many people knew that this shortcut led to the city hospital.
It was a shortcut that was accidentally discovered by medical staff who frequented the hospital or lived nearby, in the apartment complex provided by the hospital.
But he had only recently returned from abroad, and he knew about this shortcut.
What a strange coincidence.
But the most amazing thing was that Duan Shiyan still remembered her.
After all, they were from completely different worlds. Jinwu had never been delusional enough to think that a prodigy like him would still remember her.
Conversely, she didn’t know much about him, only bits and pieces from what she had heard from others or read in economic newspapers and news articles.
She only knew that he had been sent abroad for treatment after the car accident that year.
He then went on to study finance at the most prestigious university there, completing both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and founded a technology company that was already at the top of the industry.
SW Technology.
The most widely known thing about it was that the medical robots he invested in and developed were immediately made available to all hospitals in China on a large scale as soon as they were released.
No fees were charged, he simply said he was supporting the medical industry and wanted to contribute his bit.
Car accident…
Jinwu couldn’t help but look at him again.
Perhaps because he was driving, the man had casually rolled up his sleeves, revealing his extremely smooth and strong forearms.
As he gripped the steering wheel with one hand, the cold white skin of his forearms showed several veins that were slightly taut, silently exuding a seductive sexual tension.
The dim light refracted from the window, casting shadows that outlined his deep and sharp collarbone, his sharp and sexy Adam’s apple, the whole person was immersed in the night, handsome and noble.
It seemed that the incident hadn’t worn down his aura of nobility, he was still relaxed and unrestrained, you couldn’t tell that he had once been at death’s door.
“Little Monitor.”
Just as Jinwu was lost in thought, a soft chuckle came from him, “If you keep looking, my face will be as red as the traffic light ahead.”
The car stopped.
Duan Shiyan met her gaze, which she hadn’t had time to turn away from, and raised his eyebrows playfully, his low, magnetic voice laced with a seductive smile, making her ears tingle, “Or do you want to see me blush, huh?”
Caught red-handed, Jinwu quickly averted her gaze.
“No, I was just going to ask, your accident that year… uh!”
Just as she was about to ask him if he was seriously injured in the car accident that year.
That dizzying feeling of discomfort came back, and Jinwu frowned uncomfortably.
She immediately opened her handbag, wanting to take out the sugar box she always carried with her.
But she realized that the box, which should have been full of candy, was empty.
Jinwu pursed her lips, her face a little pale.
She remembered.
She had been dizzy after performing several surgeries in a row today, and she had rushed to get the cake to celebrate Fu Yulchen’s birthday at the bar, so she had forgotten to refill the candy box.
The physical discomfort amplified all the negative emotions.
Her mood, which had already recovered almost completely, was instantly suppressed to the extreme.
Today was just terrible.
First, she discovered the true face of the person she had been chasing after for years, and she drew a line between them, her sincere feelings became the laughingstock of everyone.
Now, she was having a low blood sugar attack, and she didn’t even have a single piece of candy to temporarily relieve the discomfort…
A wave of painful sourness uncontrollably welled up in her eyes, making them sting, and Jinwu wearily lowered her gaze.
It’s okay.
It’ll pass.
Haven’t I always gotten through it like this…?
Just as she habitually forced back all the tangled grievances in her heart.
Suddenly, the sound of the car’s storage compartment opening echoed in her ears.
The next second, the palm of her hand, holding the empty box, was gently placed over a full glass jar of candy.
“Didn’t you want some candy?”
Duan Shiyan leaned back against the steering wheel, his deep peach blossom eyes curved slightly, his usual flippant demeanor subdued, his gaze focused and serious as he looked at her, “I have a lot of candy here, all for you.”
“So, our Dr. Jin won’t have to be unhappy about not having candy anymore.”
He reached out and rubbed her head, his thin lips curving, “Because I’m here now.”
Jinwu’s breath caught, her heart skipped a beat.
She couldn’t help but look down at the candy in her hand, surprised to find that it was all the gummy bear candies she loved to eat.
And they were all her favorite flavors—orange and grape.
As if they had carefully selected them for her from a pile of fruit-flavored candies.
Was it a coincidence…?
Jinwu gently rubbed the glass jar in her hand, her lips slightly parted, she whispered, “How did you know I wanted candy?”
Even Fu Yulchen, all this time, hadn’t noticed, how did he know?
“Didn’t you have low blood sugar before?”
At this time, the red light ahead turned green.
Duan Shiyan looked ahead, his side profile handsome and sharp, his voice calm and steady, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, “So I prepared some, in case you needed it one day, I could give it to you like I am now.”
Because he knew she had low blood sugar, he always kept a few of her favorite candies in his school uniform pockets back then, and now in his shirt pockets.
This habit had unknowingly lasted for ten years.
Jinwu’s eyelashes fluttered, her heart beat a little faster.
So strange…
Did he have some kind of magical healing power?
Those uncomfortable and sour emotions, they had miraculously eased a bit because of his few words.
Jinwu clutched the glass jar in her hand, a soft smile slowly blooming on her face, her clear eyes clearly reflected his figure at this moment, “Thank you, I really need it.”
The girl, her spirits restored, her eyes curved like crescent moons, as if all the stars in the sky were shining brightly in her eyes.
Duan Shiyan only glanced at her, the hand gripping the steering wheel immediately tightened.
The tip of his ear, hidden in his hair, quickly flushed a delicate red.
Damn, how could she look so beautiful when she smiled!
He liked it, he liked it, he liked it so much!
A certain Duan puppy, with a top-of-the-line cool guy face, actually had an invisible tail that had already left a blur behind him.
“Duan Shiyan, do you want some candy?”
Jinwu held a grape-flavored gummy bear, her cheeks puffed up slightly.
Like a small animal that had finally let down its guard, she revealed her soft belly to him, her tone no longer polite and distant, but light and cheerful, “This gummy bear is really delicious, do you want to try one?”
Duan Shiyan’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
Like most guys, he wasn’t really interested in these sweet foods.
But in those times when he was watching her, he had secretly tasted all the things she loved to eat, and since then, his hobbies had increased by a few.
Except—
“I don’t like orange, it’s too sour.”
Just like his secret love, it was so sour.
Just as Jinwu was thinking that the orange-flavored gummy bears weren’t as sweet as the grape ones, and was about to pour out one for him.
She heard him say lazily, “But if Little Monitor personally feeds it to me, I won’t find it sour.”
The man who had been casually holding the steering wheel with one hand was now gripping it firmly with both hands, looking like a traffic safety ambassador.
He smiled innocently, “And I’m driving now, I can’t really free up my hands, so I can only trouble Little Monitor to feed me.”
“Okay?”
“Please, please!”
