Yu Zi originally thought Sister Lin was in her mid-thirties. It wasn’t until they chatted for a while that he realized Sister Lin was actually forty years old. She said she worked as a senior marketing manager in a foreign company and was usually very busy with work.
Yu Zi was somewhat surprised to find that they had similar work backgrounds. However, he didn’t feel it appropriate to share more about himself. Beijing was small, and too much talk would lead to mistakes.
Following the conversation, Yu Zi asked if Sister Lin had any other friends who needed errands to be run.
After a while, Sister Lin just smiled in response.
Seeing her solitary expression, Yu Zi felt a bit uneasy and turned to ask, “What does that mean?”
Xie Dongcheng stood behind him, “Isn’t it just a simple smile?”
Yu Zi rarely felt so hesitant.
What he didn’t expect was that an hour later, his phone suddenly kept ringing several times.
Yu Zi opened his phone and saw that Sister Lin had started a group chat, with about twenty or thirty people in it.
Joanna Lin: @You, my friends and colleagues around me also want to place orders with you. Can you give us a group discount?
Yu Zi immediately replied at lightning speed: Sure. If everyone comes to me at the original price, I can offer a ten percent discount. The more you buy, the more discounts you get.
Xie Dongcheng stared at their chat window, completely stunned, “Who is this Sister Lin? She’s like our Goddess of Wealth, no, Goddess of Fortune.”
In the following week, the two of them were extremely busy.
Most of the customers brought by Sister Lin were mid- to high-level managers in companies, as well as several full-time housewives. They all had plenty of money but were busy with work and childcare, and didn’t want to sacrifice their quality of life.
Their appearance happened to solve their problems. Yu Zi’s taste in selecting items was highly praised by various big brothers and sisters.
After the last time he gave Sister Lin a bottle of white wine, everyone at the party praised it. Two days later, they asked him to buy many more bottles, saying they wanted to stock up for the next gathering.
After the smooth opening, the two of them had to deliver goods to at least four or five neighborhoods a day. The battery of the Hello Kitty scooter was almost worn out from all the trips.
Xie Dongcheng’s previous worries were unnecessary. In just over a week, they had already delivered goods worth over ten thousand yuan. Not only did they recover the cost of getting the business membership and buying the scooter, but they also made three to four thousand yuan. It was even more than what Xie Dongcheng used to earn from driving.
However, another tricky problem emerged recently.
They realized that there was a hidden competition in this errand running business. They were not the first to discover this business opportunity. Even before they obtained the business membership qualification, there were already people doing this business here.
These people came earlier and were more aggressive in purchasing. By the time Yu Zi and Xie Dongcheng entered the scene, they often couldn’t find good quality steaks and seafood.
This made Yu Zi somewhat frustrated.
On this day, the two of them deliberately arrived early. The streets in the early morning were misty, with poor visibility.
Yu Zi sat drowsily in the back seat of the scooter, not fully awake yet.
He felt like the scooter hadn’t been driving for long when Xie Dongcheng told him they had arrived. He lowered his head and checked the time on his phone, only to find that it wasn’t even seven in the morning yet.
“Coming so early today, there must be no one competing with us,” Xie Dongcheng said confidently.
Yu Zi nodded dazedly.
However, as soon as they entered, they were shocked awake.
Most of the freshly cut beef on the shelves had been swept away!
Standing in front of the shelf was a tall, slightly chubby middle-aged man, frantically sweeping items into his cart, which had already piled up into a small mountain.
Upon seeing this, Yu Zi quickly ran over and picked a few boxes from the remaining half of the shelf and put them in his basket.
But what he didn’t expect was that the man next to him glanced at him and reached out to grab the items from his hand. The force he exerted was quite strong, almost pulling Yu Zi over.
Yu Zi’s anger surged to his head. “Hey, don’t you know the rules?”
The man looked defiant. “Rules? When it comes to rules, I was here first. Do you understand the concept of first come, first served?”
The man continued to push and shove him, and his big hand almost hit Yu Zi’s face.
Yu Zi, who had never experienced this kind of situation before, stepped forward to argue with him. “If you keep this up, I’ll call security!”
Xie Dongcheng heard the commotion and hurried over.
Seeing that Yu Zi didn’t back down at all, the man became even more aggressive. “What’s the matter? You want to fight with me? Who do you think you are? With your delicate appearance, can you withstand a slap from me?”
Before Yu Zi could react, he saw the man raise a hard paper box and smash it towards his head.
Yu Zi’s pupils dilated instantly, and his body didn’t even have time to dodge.
Bang! There was a loud noise.
However, the box didn’t hit his head.
In Yu Zi’s line of sight appeared a tall figure. Xie Dongcheng came in from the side and grabbed the man’s collar, unexpectedly blocking the blow for him.
“Fuck….”
Yu Zi rarely heard Xie Dongcheng curse like this. He looked up to see him holding his nose, frowning, blood slowly flowing down between his fingers.
“You’re bleeding… Don’t move!” Yu Zi was startled by this scene and hurried up to check his wound.
The sharp corner of the hard paper box had hit Xie Dongcheng’s nose bridge, breaking a half-inch long cut. Blood kept flowing out.
Xie Dongcheng winced in pain, unable to say anything for a moment.
Quickly, Yu Zi pulled out tissues from his pocket and pressed them against the bleeding spot on his nose.
Seeing Xie Dongcheng’s injury, the man panicked, forcefully pushing away Xie Dongcheng’s hand and attempting to flee.
Ignoring his appearance, Yu Zi dashed over like a gust of wind and firmly held onto the man, shouting, “Security! Call the police, someone is assaulting us!”
Several shoppers nearby heard the commotion and gathered around, turning the area in front of the shelves into chaos.
Unable to escape, the man was apprehended, and the security subsequently called the police after reviewing the surveillance footage.
This was the first time Yu Zi had to ride with Xie Dongcheng to the police station, where they both provided statements. The man, upon entering the station, immediately became as timid as a little chick, sitting on the ground in tears, admitting his mistake and claiming it was not intentional.
Observing this performance, Yu Zi rolled his eyes in exasperation.
Initially, he didn’t understand why one had to navigate through the complexities of society with fistfights, but now he truly understood it.
The world was full of pitfalls. To make money, one had to constantly play nice and endure beatings.
After leaving the police station, it was almost noon.
Walking ahead, Xie Dongcheng’s face remained expressionless.
Approaching him, Yu Zi glanced at the wound on his nose, a long, thin cut that was somewhat unsettling. “Are you sure you don’t need to go to the hospital?”
Shaking his head, Xie Dongcheng replied, “No need. The bleeding has stopped, and it will scab over soon. This injury doesn’t require stitches.”
Letting out a sigh, Yu Zi said, “Next time, don’t try to shield me. He was just putting on a show.”
Reflecting on the situation, he realized that the man might have only wanted to intimidate him and had not actually intended to resort to violence. However, he hadn’t expected Xie Dongcheng to intervene suddenly, causing the man to panic and accidentally injure him.
Walking ahead without looking back, Xie Dongcheng softly said after a few seconds, “I just don’t want to see you bullied by those kinds of people.”
Yu Zi’s steps suddenly paused for a moment, then he forced a smile and said, “There have been many people who have bullied me. Are you going to seek revenge on each one of them?”
However, Xie Dongcheng nodded seriously, “Do you want that? If so, I’ll do it.”
Looking into his eyes, Yu Zi didn’t detect any hint of jest.
Quickly averting his gaze, he said, “I was just joking.”
“Okay.”
Yu Zi didn’t continue the conversation.
Xie Dongcheng, with a scar on his nose, sat down on the scooter and inserted the key into the lock as if nothing had happened. “Let’s go. The morning’s goods haven’t been delivered yet.”
Yu Zi found this person simply amazing.
The small electric scooter soon zoomed onto the road, with the autumn wind blowing against them. The road wasn’t smooth, and the tires rattled over the stones, jostling them.
For some reason, as Yu Zi sat on the back seat, watching the sturdy back in front of him, he felt a rare surge of compassion.
