Chapter 51
Ye Wulan’s eyes flickered with a crimson glint at the thought. A surge of hatred roiled in his heart like crashing waves. Yet, he forcibly suppressed the violent, vengeful aura. He refused to let that darkness frighten her; even if he suffered, he would never harm her.
Steadying himself, his expression turned grave as he explained, “Those beast warriors were clad in black, their faces concealed—I do not know their origins. All I know is that many among them had transcended the Mortal Beast Realm.”
“In the Beast Continent, reaching the ninth stage of the Mortal Beast Realm is already an immense achievement, even for demonic beasts. Only a handful of true powerhouses have ever advanced beyond into the Transcendence Realm—there should not be so many at that level.”
“That’s why I was unable to trace their origins within the Beast Continent.”
“They appeared as if from nowhere… and vanished just as suddenly.”
“They seemed to be here for a purpose—to plunder something. That force took everything belonging to the Enchanter Demon tribe.”
As he spoke, his voice turned cold, laced with barely contained fury, but the moment his gaze landed on Ye Baizhi, his expression softened.
Her eyes darkened slightly. “This is anything but simple.”
“If they exterminated your clan and seized everything, it means the Enchanter Demon tribe possessed something they desperately wanted.”
Ye Baizhi pondered for a moment. “Do you think they’re hiding somewhere within the Beast Continent—so well concealed that even the Beast Continent itself doesn’t know of their existence?”
“If this force is lurking in the shadows, your identity must remain hidden.”
Ye Wulan nodded. “Mm. I have only investigated in secret—I have not revealed myself.”
Moreover, he had concealed himself within the Rabbit Tribe, a low-ranked settlement in the Northern Region. No one would suspect him there.
As if struck by a thought, Ye Baizhi’s expression grew solemn. “What was the thing they plundered the most?”
At this, Ye Wulan’s gaze flickered. “Food and medicinal herbs!”
“The Enchanter Demon tribe excelled at hunting, and we also cultivated herbs and fruit trees. That meant we had massive reserves of food.”
“In the past, our clan thrived in the Beast Continent, living in near isolation. Our food stores were sufficient for many years.”
Ye Baizhi murmured, “Then it’s clear—food and medicinal herbs are what they needed most.”
“No wonder there are so many herbs in this secret land.”
Ye Wulan said, “These were originally ones I cultivated within my tribe.”
“But I’ve already harvested quite a lot.”
Without hesitation, Ye Wulan declared, “What’s mine is yours. From now on, everything here belongs to you.”
Ye Baizhi smiled. “The spiritual energy here is abundant, even richer than the outside world. It should be a great place to grow crops and vegetables.”
Ye Wulan asked, “Crops and vegetables? Like radishes and soybeans?”
She nodded. “Yes, but not just those. Many kinds of plants can be cultivated.”
“Even though that force stole your clan’s medicinal herbs and food, we can still grow them in large quantities.”
The Beast Continent had plenty of food resources. Moreover, if she bore a child with Ye Wulan, her space would upgrade and grant rewards. And if she accumulated enough karmic virtue, perhaps she could even revive his lost loved ones. But right now, she had too little karma—she couldn’t restore anyone yet.
Listening to her words, Ye Wulan felt an unexpected sense of hope. His expression softened slightly. “Alright.”
Seeing that he looked better, Ye Baizhi changed the topic. “Although I haven’t explored the deeper forests, I found sugarcane. It can be refined—it’s an excellent resource.”
“There’s no sugarcane in the Northern Region.”
“Maybe because this is your tribe’s former secret land, its environment is suitable, so it still exists here.”
She had already planned to harvest and refine the sugarcane after their meal. In the Beast Continent, such things were rare. The closest substitute was honey, which was highly valuable. Only royalty and noble beast tribes could afford honey. Even low-ranked beast warriors who stumbled upon honey rarely consumed it, preferring to trade it for food instead. If sugarcane could be processed, it might become a valuable resource for earning crystal coins and developing their power.
“Sugarcane?”
“The segmented kind, piece by piece…” Ye Baizhi gave a simple explanation, and even Ye Wulan—widely knowledgeable—showed surprise.
“That’s food too?”
“Yes. Once I refine it, you’ll understand.”
“And I can make malt now as well.”
With wheat, she could produce malt.
Over the past few days, she had been growing wheat in her space, using her wood-based ability to accelerate its maturity. After harvesting, she dried and threshed it, then ground it into flour using a small stone mill. Now, the flour could finally be used to prepare food.
With this thought, Ye Baizhi’s face lit up with a cheerful glow. “Since you just woke up, you must be hungry. I’ll make wontons for us.”
“When feeling down, a good meal can lift your spirits.”
Ye Wulan felt a warmth in his heart. “I’ll help you.”
Ye Baizhi shook her head. “No need. You should wash up first—I can wrap them myself. It’s quick.”
“Besides, I doubt you know how to roll out dumpling wrappers.”
Ye Wulan had indeed never heard of wontons before, but he knew that whatever she cooked was always delicious. Her food had a way of making life feel fuller—something to look forward to.
Ye Baizhi poured another bowl of medicine for Ye Wulan, handing it to him before heading into the kitchen.
Da Bao followed her inside, his voice barely above a whisper. “Mother, are you going to have little brothers and sisters with Uncle Ye?”
His sudden question caught Ye Baizhi so off guard that she coughed. “You… asking me that out of nowhere—I don’t even know how to answer you.”
Da Bao’s wide, clear eyes blinked up at her in confusion. “But mother, you promised Uncle Ye you would.”
“Yes, I did, but… I need to get used to being around him first.”
Jumping straight into having children with Ye Wulan—it still felt unnatural to her. Of course, things with Xue Youchen had moved quickly due to the unusual circumstances of her arrival.
“You really want younger siblings?”
Da Bao nodded eagerly. “Mm-hmm! I love little brothers and sisters. I’ll give them all my favorite things.”
Ye Baizhi gently patted Da Bao’s head. “There will be.”
She continued telling him stories—The Pony Crossing the River, Cao Chong Weighing the Elephant, and Cutting the Boat to Mark the Sword—all rich with philosophical meaning.
Naturally, Da Bao had many questions, and Ye Baizhi patiently answered each one. With his chatter keeping her company, wrapping wontons didn’t feel tedious at all. She first kneaded the dough using spiritual spring water and flour, then chopped meat and vegetables for the filling.
For today, she decided on a cabbage and meat filling. Once the mixture was prepared, she divided the dough into small portions, rolled them into thin sheets, and wrapped the wontons.
“Mother, you’re amazing.”
“Mother, I’ve never seen food like this before.”
Ye Baizhi knew that Da Bao’s mind carried inherited memories. Since he had no recollection of wontons, it meant the Beast Continent had never had such food. Ye Wulan, upon stepping into the kitchen and seeing the wontons set aside, felt something stir within him—a realization that left waves rippling through his heart.
