Chapter 16: Marriage Certificate – You’re Mine

Song Yuzhou hurriedly grabbed a pair of pants nearby to cover himself. “Why are you here?”

Seeing his flustered look, Jiang Zhi Ning teased, “Comrade Yuzhou, as expected of a soldier. Your body is really well-toned.”

Song Yuzhou’s face turned bright red. “Aren’t you embarrassed at all?”

“Why would I be shy about admiring my own man’s body?” Jiang Zhi Ning said calmly.

“Did you need something? Wait for me a bit, I haven’t finished showering.” Song Yuzhou was grateful the lighting was dim, otherwise she would’ve seen just how red his face was.

“Comrade Yuzhou,” Jiang Zhi Ning asked, slightly bashful, “can I touch your muscles?”

As a modern woman, she’d seen plenty of muscular men, but she’d never actually touched one. That felt like such a missed opportunity.

Especially with Song Yuzhou’s clearly defined muscles—her hands were itching to explore.

Song Yuzhou was stunned. He hadn’t expected her to say that.

Before he could even refuse, Jiang Zhi Ning had already walked up to him.

At 160cm tall, she looked petite in front of him.

She lowered her head and pressed her hand to his firm abs. Gently pressing down, her eyes lit up in surprise. “So abs are soft at first? Comrade Yuzhou, maybe you’re not training hard enough?”

Her touch sent an electric shock through him, his abs tensing and hardening instantly.

“Now they’re hard,” Jiang Zhi Ning said with delight, poking them again. “Actually, really hard! I guess I misunderstood. Abs aren’t always firm unless engaged.”

Song Yuzhou swallowed hard and grabbed her hand that was still wandering across his abs. “Touched enough yet?”

“Not yet. Let me explore a little more,” Jiang Zhi Ning said with a cheerful smile, eyes full of curiosity.

Then she bent her knees slightly to inspect his abs more closely.

Because of the dim light, she had to lean in to see. Her soft, warm breath tickled his skin as the fragrance from her body surrounded him.

Song Yuzhou’s abs became more defined.

Jiang Zhi Ning noticed the subtle change and mischievously ran her fingers across his muscles, slowly moving along.

“Is this part abs too? Comrade Yuzhou, your physique really is amazing,” she cooed sweetly.

Song Yuzhou kept swallowing hard, gripping his pants more tightly for cover.

“Is that enough?” he asked hoarsely, clearly trying to restrain himself.

Noticing his reaction, Jiang Zhi Ning’s fingers gently glided over his chest and paused on a scar.

“Did you get this during military service?” she asked softly, brushing the scar.

“Mm.”

“That must’ve been dangerous. It’s so close to the heart…” Her eyes filled with concern.

Song Yuzhou said nothing, lips tightly pressed together.

Jiang Zhi Ning looked up and was met with deep sorrow in his eyes. “Comrade Yuzhou?”

“My older brother died during that mission. He was trying to save me,” Song Yuzhou said, voice hoarse and eyes tinged red.

Seeing this side of him—so vulnerable—Jiang Zhi Ning felt her heart ache. She hugged his strong frame and pressed her ear against his chest. “It’s in the past. Your brother gave his life for you. You have to live well, to make his sacrifice worthwhile.”

A ripple passed through Song Yuzhou’s heart. He slowly raised his hand and hesitated, then placed it gently on the back of her head.

“The three kids are my brother’s. Their mother left. I promised my brother I’d raise them properly.”

Although she already knew the children weren’t his, hearing him explain it personally made Jiang Zhi Ning feel even better.

Looking up, she smiled at him. “Then let’s raise them together.”

Light danced across her face, casting a soft shadow. Looking at that beautiful, alluring face, Song Yuzhou’s heart raced. “Mm.”

“Well, finish your shower then. I’m heading out.” Jiang Zhi Ning turned gracefully, slipping from his arms without hesitation.

As the soft warmth left his arms, Song Yuzhou felt a strange emptiness.

After she left, he finally moved the pants he’d been clutching to cover himself. Seeing how aroused he was, Song Yuzhou’s face turned crimson.

He hadn’t expected that just a few touches from her could make him react so strongly.

He had nearly finished showering, but now he had to stay in longer to… cool off.

The next morning, Jiang Zhi Ning woke up early—for once. Today was special: she and Song Yuzhou were going to Beicheng to register their marriage.

She thought they’d take an ox cart like the villagers usually did, but instead saw a dark green military vehicle parked outside.

“This was issued by the army for ease of travel,” Song Yuzhou explained in his low voice.

Jiang Zhi Ning remembered that in the 1980s, regimental commanders were assigned cars. She joked, “Looks like I’ve got great taste.”

Song Yuzhou scratched his head a bit shyly and opened the car door.

Pleased by his gentlemanly gesture, she bent down and got in.

The vehicle started heading toward Beicheng.

Since the road was bumpy, Song Yuzhou kept a steadying hand on her shoulder to keep her from being jostled around.

Once they arrived at the marriage registration office, the two walked in side by side and began the paperwork.

Jiang Zhi Ning stood quietly as Song Yuzhou handed over the documents.

An hour later, they received their freshly printed marriage certificates.

Jiang Zhi Ning turned and extended her hand. “Comrade Yuzhou, starting today, we’re officially licensed. Let’s support each other from now on.”

Looking at her expression, Song Yuzhou took her hand and replied, “Comrade Zhi Ning, please take care of me.”

“Well, that depends on how you perform,” she said playfully.

With a serious face, Song Yuzhou nodded. “I’ll do my best, so you won’t regret marrying me.”

Jiang Zhi Ning smiled sweetly. “Remember when I told you I’d marry you, and I stamped my seal on you?”

Song Yuzhou nodded. “I remember.”

Most women he’d met were shy and reserved—none were as vibrant and bold as her.

“Well, now that we’re officially married, shouldn’t you give me a stamp too? To prove I’m yours?” she said lazily.

Song Yuzhou’s face flushed red immediately, heat radiating off of him.

Looking around awkwardly at their surroundings, he said, “Um… maybe somewhere more private?”

Jiang Zhi Ning pouted slightly and sighed, “Fine, I guess.”

Before she could finish her sentence, Song Yuzhou bent down quickly and pecked her lips.

“You’re mine.”
