Song Yuzhou was the classic strong-silent type—less talk, more action.
Watching him quietly doing her laundry and changing the bedsheets, Jiang Zhi Ning couldn’t help the smile playing at her lips.
During her period, all she wanted was to rest and recuperate. Only with a healthy body could she chase wealth in the future.
Lying on the bed, Jiang Zhi Ning entered her jade bracelet space.
As soon as she stepped in, she saw a field of fiery red chili peppers swaying in the distance.
Guo Lai, the chubby little spirit, came dashing over on its short legs. “Master~”
Jiang Zhi Ning picked up Guo Lai and headed under the peach tree, where she had previously placed a four-legged stool.
Hugging Guo Lai while lounging beneath the tree, she coaxed, “Guo Lai, be a dear and help me harvest all those chilies, will you? I’ll buy you some bamboo shoots later as a reward.”
Guo Lai shook its round head firmly. “No, no! The space is still at a beginner level. Master has to work herself to experience the joy of farming.”
Jiang Zhi Ning pouted pitifully. “But I’m on my period… I’m tired and achy. Be a good Guo Lai and help me out, won’t you?”
Guo Lai tried to cross its stubby little paws behind its back like an old man, but gave up after failing several times. “Master, no slacking! Farming must be done by your own hands.”
With a sigh, Jiang Zhi Ning gave in. “Fine…”
“If you’re feeling unwell, you can try drinking some Spirit Spring water,” Guo Lai offered.
Jiang Zhi Ning’s eyes lit up. “It helps with that too?”
“Of course! But since the space is still low-level, the effects won’t be too obvious,” Guo Lai explained, conjuring a bowl of Spirit Spring water in its paw.
Curious, Jiang Zhi Ning drank the water and instantly felt a warm current spreading through her lower abdomen.
“It really seems to help,” she murmured, and drank two more bowls.
“I can’t wait to see how amazing the high-level space will be,” she thought excitedly.
After two days of resting, and thanks to the double effect of Spirit Spring water and brown sugar water, her menstrual pain had almost vanished.
That day, feeling refreshed, Jiang Zhi Ning was invited by Liu Zhilian to bring lunch to Song Yuzhou.
“Is it really okay for us to bring food to the base?” Jiang Zhi Ning asked, slightly hesitant.
“Of course. Eating in the military canteen costs 12 yuan a month. So many army wives either bring meals to their husbands or have them come home to eat,” Liu Zhilian explained.
Once again, Jiang Zhi Ning felt the looming crisis of not being able to afford sanitary pads.
Since Liu Zhilian was a regular meal courier, the soldiers at the gate recognized her and let them in easily.
“Who’s that woman? She’s stunning,” one soldier gossiped as Jiang Zhi Ning walked by.
“No idea, but what a figure,” another chimed in.
Inside the base, Jiang Zhi Ning soon spotted the most dazzling man among the crowd.
Wearing his military uniform, with a tall frame and cold, handsome features, Song Yuzhou was talking to his subordinates.
The moment Jiang Zhi Ning appeared, she caught every soldier’s attention.
She wore a light purple halter-neck qipao that exposed her delicate collarbones and shoulders. White floral patterns accentuated the glow of her skin, and the tight dress outlined her graceful curves. The skirt stopped just above the knees, and her light-colored heels made her long legs appear even more striking.
Just standing there, she looked like a living work of art.
“What are you looking at?” Song Yuzhou’s gaze turned sharp before he froze slightly upon seeing her.
Their eyes met, and Jiang Zhi Ning waved playfully.
“Ah, that’s the missus!” the soldiers realized.
They had heard their regiment leader had married, but none had seen the woman—until now.
And she looked like a goddess! No wonder the cold and indifferent Song Yuzhou had fallen.
Striding over, Song Yuzhou asked, “Why are you here?”
“Zhilian-jie said a good wife brings her man lunch,” Jiang Zhi Ning replied with a mischievous smile in her eyes. “Hope I’m not interrupting?”
“Not at all.” Song Yuzhou took the insulated lunchbox from her hands.
“Commander, aren’t you going to introduce your wife?” a soldier teased. “Hello, sister-in-law!”
“Hello, sister-in-law!” others echoed.
Song Yuzhou’s face flushed slightly. He replied in a low voice, “Don’t scare her.”
The soldiers laughed. “When did our commander become so protective?”
“Right? Normally he’s ice cold.”
Looking at their youthful faces, Jiang Zhi Ning smiled warmly. “Hello, everyone.”
“Resume training for another 30 minutes! Understood?” Song Yuzhou barked suddenly.
“Yes, Commander!” the group responded in unison.
Taking her by the wrist, Song Yuzhou led Jiang Zhi Ning quickly toward the office.
Watching their backs, the soldiers grinned. “Our commander’s got some serious luck.”
“Big time.”
In the slightly shabby office, Song Yuzhou placed the lunchbox on the desk, then turned on a fan.
A breeze swept across the room.
“It’s hot out. Why didn’t you rest at home?” he asked, dabbing her face with a tissue.
Looking into his deep eyes, Jiang Zhi Ning wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered flirtatiously, “Because I missed you.”
Song Yuzhou’s breath caught.
“Comrade Yu Zhou, I missed you so mu—mmph!”
Before she could finish, he kissed her.
She was caught off guard.
He lightly bit her lip and said in a low voice, “Call me wrong again, and I’ll kiss you again.”
Understanding his game, Jiang Zhi Ning pressed his head down and drawled, “Comrade Yu Zhou…”
Smirking, Song Yuzhou leaned in again, claiming her lips.
She parted them slightly, inviting him in.
At some point, kissing her had become his favorite thing. Her lips were soft, like cotton candy.
“Mm… If we don’t eat now, it’ll get cold,” Jiang Zhi Ning murmured breathlessly.
Regaining control, Song Yuzhou pulled back. “Let’s eat.”
He quickly turned away and began eating.
Seeing him flustered, Jiang Zhi Ning covered her mouth, giggling.
Opening the box, Song Yuzhou saw three dishes and a soup. His appetite flared as he dug in.
Sitting under the fan, Jiang Zhi Ning watched him devour the food, feeling inexplicably content.
By the time he finished, he was drenched in sweat.
Without hesitation, Song Yuzhou took off his military shirt, baring his chest to cool off.
“You cleaned your plate. I take it the food was good?” Jiang Zhi Ning teased while openly admiring his figure.
Even by modern modeling standards, his physique would be top-tier.
Seeing him sweat, she pulled him toward the fan.
At such close range, she felt the heat radiating from him. Her hand gently pressed against his chest… and gave it a playful squeeze.
Then she raised a finger, aiming at his “little bean.”
Just before she could touch it, he caught her hand.
“Don’t,” Song Yuzhou said in a low voice.
