First Night as a Military Wife in the ’80s: The Strongest Officer Broke His Vow Chapter 38

Chapter 38: Flirting at Home

Jiang Zhi Ning looked up and locked eyes with his deep, dark gaze.

“I want to play, will you let me?” Her playful fingers teasingly circled around his little bean (euphemism), her tone laced with mischief.

“Wait till we’re home—this is the military base,” Song Yuzhou’s voice was hoarse, tinged with a dangerous heat.

Jiang Zhi Ning pouted playfully. “Well, you’re the one who stripped and tempted me.”

“I was hot,” Song Yuzhou replied seriously.

Seeing how earnest he looked, Jiang Zhi Ning chuckled. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you.”

Song Yuzhou let out a breath of relief. Lately, he found himself losing his composure around her far too easily.

Was it because… he liked her?

Jiang Zhi Ning withdrew her hand, then gently pinched his earlobe with her soft fingertips, feeling the heat radiating through his skin. “Wow, so warm~ Are you blushing, Yuzhou?”

The moment she spoke, Song Yuzhou’s mind blanked out, and his face visibly flushed.

They say earlobes are sensitive. Jiang Zhi Ning deliberately rubbed her thumb lightly across his, playfully stirring him. A tingling jolt spread from his ear outward, making his heart race.

His throat tightened. This girl… was trying to seduce him.

Seeing how red his face was getting, Jiang Zhi Ning laughed and finally let go. “Alright, I’ll stop messing with you.”

Just as she turned to leave, Song Yuzhou yanked her back and wrapped one broad arm around her slender waist.

“Huh?”

Jiang Zhi Ning had just looked up when his passionate kiss crashed into her.

It was wild and unrestrained, nibbling and devouring her lips, swallowing her breath whole.

“Mm…” she gasped softly, eyes wide in surprise. Wasn’t her Comrade Yuzhou usually shy and reserved? Why was he becoming so easily flustered lately?

She could barely keep up.

His strong arms lifted her effortlessly and placed her on the office desk, pinning her between his body and the desk.

All the while, his lips never left hers.

His calloused palm slid up her thigh, inch by inch…

Jiang Zhi Ning’s mind went blank.

Just as the atmosphere reached a fever pitch, the office door suddenly burst open.

“Yuzhou!”

Instinctively, Song Yuzhou shifted to shield Jiang Zhi Ning with his body, his arms wrapped tightly around her.

He turned, frowning, and snapped irritably, “Ever heard of knocking?”

The intruder froze at the scene, then hastily backed out. “I didn’t see anything, carry on!”

With that, the man shut the door in a panic.

Only then did Jiang Zhi Ning breathe a sigh of relief.

Song Yuzhou let go and helped straighten her rumpled clothes. He cleared his throat and said hoarsely, “Next time, don’t tease me. I’m not as calm as you think.”

Jiang Zhi Ning’s face was flushed, and her lips were an unnatural red. “I just wanted to mess with you.”

Song Yuzhou lifted her off the desk, leaned down to meet her eyes, and said with intensity still lingering in his gaze:

“Flirt with me at home.”

Jiang Zhi Ning looked up at him, her slender finger pressing against his lips. “Then… do you like—”

Before she could finish, someone knocked again.

“Yuzhou, the Commander needs to see you right away!”

Hearing that, Song Yuzhou gently kissed her on the forehead. “I need to go.”

“Mm,” Jiang Zhi Ning replied softly.

Reluctantly, he released her, put on his uniform, and strode out.

As he opened the door, Lu Tianqi was just about to peek in to see what Song Yuzhou’s wife looked like, when he felt someone grab him by the collar and drag him away.

“Wait! I haven’t even seen her yet!” Lu Tianqi protested.

But Song Yuzhou didn’t even acknowledge him and kept walking.

Back in the office, Jiang Zhi Ning stood there, her fingers brushing against her lips as she replayed the scene in her mind.
“He must really like me, right?”

But… she still wasn’t sure.
Did he truly like her, Jiang Zhi Ning?
Or did he just like… sleeping with her?

Pushing those thoughts aside, she picked up the lunchbox and headed out.

Elsewhere in the base, Sheng Hao was leaning against a tree, arms crossed and lost in thought.

“Jiang Zhi Ning… Did she really get married?” His brows were tightly furrowed in frustration.

That morning, Shen An’an had come to him, swearing she saw Jiang Zhi Ning get married—to some old guy who already had a kid.

“No way. She loved me so much. How could she marry someone else? Shen An’an must be lying.”
“She’s not stupid. She wouldn’t give up on me and marry some old man.”

Just then, he saw a stunning woman approaching who looked vaguely like Jiang Zhi Ning.

Looking closer—it really was her!

Sheng Hao’s eyes lit up with excitement.

“Knew it! She came here for me. There’s no way she’d choose some old guy with a kid over me. What a joke.”

He decided to wait calmly and give her a chance to approach him first.

As she drew closer, Sheng Hao sneaked glances at her, his heart beating faster.

But—Jiang Zhi Ning walked straight past him like he didn’t exist.

He was dumbfounded.

“Jiang Zhi Ning!”

She turned around, eyes flashing with surprise. “What are you doing here? Oh right, I almost forgot—you’re stationed at this base too.”

Sheng Hao’s eyes widened. “Didn’t you come to see me?”

Jiang Zhi Ning gave him a disdainful side-eye. “Sheng Hao, when did you become so shameless? Do you think the whole world revolves around you?”

Flushed, Sheng Hao stammered, “If not me, then who else?”

“Obviously, my husband,” she replied sweetly, holding up the lunchbox. “I’m here to bring him lunch.”

He glared at it and snapped, “You really married that old guy with a kid? Jiang Zhi Ning, what were you thinking?”

“None of your damn business,” she retorted. “Sheng Hao, I’m married and you’re engaged. From now on, let’s be strangers. I’m not interested in you.”

Without giving him a second glance, she walked away with poise and calm.

Sheng Hao stood there, face alternating between red and pale.

“She loved me for over ten years—how could she marry someone else?”
“I’m a company commander, young, capable, and good-looking. Hmph. No way she can find someone better than me.”

“Sheng Hao, why are you just standing there like an idiot? What are you thinking about?”

A slap on the shoulder brought him back.

“Nothing.”

“Oh, right! Did you hear? Our Regiment Commander’s wife came to visit today. I heard she’s gorgeous. Did you see her?”

“Regiment Commander’s wife?”

“Yeah! She wore a qipao—absolutely stunning. Did you catch a glimpse?”

Qipao beauty?

Sheng Hao’s mind flashed back to Jiang Zhi Ning’s face.

“No… no way it’s her…”
