Chapter 49: I Will Not Show Mercy Regarding My Wife

Upon returning to Xia Tianyou’s house, he immediately dialed his father, Director Xia. His voice was urgent as he said, “Dad, Doctor Wang has been kidnapped. We just rescued her, and it’s serious. Please come back as soon as you can.” After hanging up quickly, he waited in the living room with Mu Nanhe and Yang Qingyan.

Before long, Director Xia hurried back home, his face serious. He hadn’t even had time to sit down before asking, “What happened? Is Doctor Wang okay?”

Yang Qingyan replied, “I’m fine. I was kidnapped by the nephew of Director Bai’s wife.”

Mu Nanhe spoke up first, his eyes filled with determination and anger. “Uncle Xia, I can be certain that this incident is related to Li Fang and Bai Yiling. They came to the hospital for no reason today, and then Qingyan was abducted. The timing is too coincidental, and I only learned Qingyan’s location from them. We still don’t have concrete evidence, though.”

Yang Qingyan chimed in, “Li Ming was the one who captured me. He is Li Fang’s brother, so it definitely involves Li Fang and Bai Yiling.”

Director Xia frowned slightly, thinking for a moment before responding with a serious expression, “Without solid evidence, it will be difficult to pin this on Li Fang and Bai Yiling based solely on speculation. Unless Li Ming confesses in the police station, this kid is quite slippery and may not easily give up information.”

Mu Nanhe nodded slightly, a hint of determination flashing in his eyes. He continued, “I’ve already informed my unit’s leaders about the situation in detail and will apply pressure here to urge the police to thoroughly investigate this case. They must not be allowed to get away with this.”

After hearing this, Director Xia patted Mu Nanhe on the shoulder, responding firmly, “Nanhe, don’t worry. I will use my connections to help you keep an eye on things. I’ll notify you immediately if there are any updates. What we need to do now is to stay calm and wait for the results. You two are welcome to stay in my house for the next few days.”

Mu Nanhe replied, “Thank you, Uncle Xia.”

Director Xia added, “No need for thanks. For now, let’s wait for the police to finish their questioning and see what the results are.”

At that moment, the doorbell rang urgently, and the police arrived. The leading officer spoke with a serious expression, “Hello, Director. We’ve just finished questioning Li Ming. He confessed that it was his doing alone. He has taken a liking to Comrade Yang and wanted to have her, so he decided to kidnap her.”

Upon hearing this, Mu Nanhe furrowed his brows and asked, “He didn’t say he had accomplices? It couldn’t have just been him!”

The police officer shook his head in frustration. “No, he only mentioned that he did it with a few of his thug friends.”

After the police left, Yang Qingyan stood there, deep in thought. After a moment, her eyes brightened, and she spoke up, “I know how to prepare a certain hallucinogenic drug that can make a person reveal the truth under its influence. If we give it to the police for him to inhale, we might get to the bottom of it.”

Director Xia looked surprised, asking, “Is there really such a drug?”

Yang Qingyan nodded confidently. “I studied pharmacology and know some ancient recipes. This drug can be effective. I’ll write a prescription; Tianyou, you go retrieve the ingredients.”

Without hesitation, Xia Tianyou answered, “Got it.” He took the prescription and hurriedly left.

Before long, Xia Tianyou returned with the ingredients. Yang Qingyan took them and rushed into the kitchen to prepare. After a while, she emerged with a small packet of powder, announcing, “Here it is.” Xia Tianyou immediately volunteered, “I’ll take it to the police and let them try it out.”

Director Xia nodded in agreement, “You go ahead.” Xia Tianyou quickly headed toward the police station with the drug.

Director Xia began pacing in the living room, deep in thought. After a while, he stopped, picked up the phone, and dialed Director Bai’s number. “Old Bai, come over to my house for a moment. It’s important; it concerns your wife and daughter.”

Director Bai’s voice on the other end sounded puzzled. “What is it? Can’t you say it over the phone?”

Director Xia’s tone became serious. “Just come over. Mu Nanhe is here, and it’s related to his wife as well.”

Upon hearing this, Director Bai’s heart dropped, and he hurriedly wrapped up what he was doing before rushing to Director Xia’s house.

As soon as Director Bai entered, he scanned the room before fixing his gaze on Mu Nanhe. “What exactly happened?”

Director Xia sighed slightly and briefly recounted the situation. After hearing everything, Director Bai’s expression became extremely grim. He never expected that his wife and daughter were involved in such a mess. His heart was filled with both anger and some guilt as he looked at Mu Nanhe and Yang Qingyan with a complicated expression.

Director Bai was silent for a moment, then spoke with gravity, “If it indeed was them, I will not show mercy. You all can proceed with the questioning without worry. As a soldier, I must lead by example and uphold justice. I will not permit my family to make mistakes and go unpunished.”

Mu Nanhe felt a surge of gratitude at this, standing tall and saluting with perfect military decorum, declaring with a loud and firm voice, “Thank you, Director. This matter concerns my wife, and I will not show any mercy. I will uncover the truth behind this and ensure that she gets justice.”

Seeing this, Director Xia nodded slightly and said, “With Director Bai saying this, we can feel more assured. Now, we just await news from Tianyou to see if the hallucinogenic drug will take effect and reveal the truth.”

After bidding farewell, Director Bai left Xia’s house feeling heavy-hearted. The words spoken by everyone at the Xia family echoed in his mind. Upon entering his home, he found his wife and daughter sitting in the living room, his expression instantly hardening as he raised his voice to question them, “What’s going on? Is Li Ming’s kidnapping related to you two?”

Li Fang, pretending to leisurely flip through a magazine, was startled by his sudden outburst. She nearly dropped the magazine and gasped, eyes wide with fear. “Director Bai, what are you talking about? He is he, and I am I. What does this have to do with me?”

Director Bai stepped forward, glaring angrily, and pressed, “If it wasn’t you two, then why did you go to the hospital today to bother Nanhe?”

Li Fang glanced at Bai Yiling in a panic but quickly regained her composure, defending herself, “It was your daughter who insisted on seeing him. Your daughter is still thinking about him!”

Hearing this, Bai Yiling’s eyes turned red instantly as she cried out in grievance, “Dad, we really just went to see Brother Nanhe. We didn’t know why Cousin wanted to kidnap Yang Qingyan!”

Li Fang quickly chimed in, “Did you hear that? We won’t visit if you don’t want us to.”

Director Bai snorted coldly, his eyes filled with warning. “It’s best if this has nothing to do with you. Otherwise, I won’t show any mercy and will deal with it as needed.” With that, he angrily turned and strode into his study, slamming the door behind him.

In the living room, Li Fang and Bai Yiling exchanged glances, with Bai Yiling still quietly sobbing. Li Fang bit her lip, feeling anxious. She knew that Director Bai was genuinely angry this time. If the truth got out, they would face serious punishment.

At that moment, she felt a pang of regret for listening to Li Ming’s instigation and getting caught up in this trouble. However, it was too late; all she could do was anxiously wait for their uncertain fate. If things really went south, she would ensure to protect her daughter at all costs.
