Chapter 27
This Train of Thought, No One Can Beat It
Chen Ji pointed inside and stammered, “Is—is this the family’s spendthrift?”
Xu Jianguo thought he had misheard. “What did you say?”
Chen Ji pointed again. “Is—is this the family?”
Xu Jianguo’s face darkened, and he shoved Chen Ji aside. “You little brat, I’m clean, but I don’t have any illegitimate children! Get out of here, wherever you came from!”
Chen Ji understood and looked at Xu Jianguo in surprise. “You’re Xu Jiajia’s father?”
Xu Jianguo frowned at the exaggerated smile on Chen Ji’s face. “Do you know Jiajia?”
Not denying it meant he was admitting it. Chen Ji suddenly knelt and hugged Xu Jianguo’s leg. “Dad, you have to help me! Your daughter tricked me so badly!”
Xu Jianguo pushed Chen Ji’s hand away and took two steps back. “Don’t—don’t call me Dad!”
Hearing the commotion, Old Lady Liu came out and saw what was happening. She asked, “Jianguo, what’s going on?”
Xu Jianguo pointed at Chen Ji, somewhat annoyed. “This guy came here calling me Dad, and I was completely confused!”
Li Chengye was there, too.
This guy, too.
Old Lady Liu laughed and joked, “What’s wrong with that? You don’t have to raise him, he grew up on his own. Just wait for him to support you when you’re old!”
Chen Ji nodded seriously. “I’ll be filial to you, I’ll support you and make sure you live to ninety-nine.”
Xu Jianguo kicked him. “I have a daughter. I don’t need you to support me!”
Chen Ji dodged and continued, “I’ll help support you along with sis, so she has less burden.”
Xu Jianguo didn’t believe in free rides. “Get lost, I don’t want to see you.”
Inside, Xu Jiajia heard the noise and came out. She was surprised to see Chen Ji. “What are you doing here?”
Chen Ji looked at her with a pitiful expression. “Did you forget what we promised?”
At his reminder, Xu Jiajia remembered. She slapped her forehead. “Sorry, my mistake. You haven’t eaten, right? How about we eat first and then go?”
Chen Ji wasn’t really angry with Xu Jiajia. “The bike is still at the village entrance, I’ll go push it over.”
Xu Jiajia offered, “I’ll go with you.”
They went to the village entrance, but there was nothing there.
Xu Jiajia turned to Chen Ji. “Where’s the bike?”
Chen Ji was confused. “The bike? I clearly left it here, the key…”
He reached into his pocket but found nothing. “Ah, I forgot to take the key out!”
Xu Jiajia: “…”
Chen Ji, with red eyes, sat on the ground, complaining. “The materials are still up there. The thief was really something, stealing the bike and the materials too?”
Xu Jiajia: “…”
This train of thought… who can beat it?
Does he even know how much a bicycle costs?
Does he know how hard it is to get a bike ticket?
Xu Jiajia noticed some kids playing not far away and walked over to ask, “Kids, did you see anyone ride off with the bike from the village entrance?”
The kids shook their heads. “No.”
Xu Jiajia frowned. How would they find it now?
Chen Ji, seeing how hard Xu Jiajia was trying to help him find the bike, was moved. “Sis, never mind. If it’s lost, it’s lost. I’ll have my dad try to get one tomorrow!”
Xu Jiajia: “…”
Must be nice to have money!
“Yesterday it was Big Sis, today it’s Sis, what will it be tomorrow?”
Chen Ji laughed stupidly. “I can be from your family, or I can be from your husband’s family.”
Xu Jiajia: “…”
This operation, no one can top it!
Xu Jianguo looked at the two of them returning empty-handed, completely confused. “Where’s the bike?”
Xu Jiajia sighed. “It was stolen.”
“What?” Xu Jianguo almost split his pants in shock. “That was a bicycle! It cost over a hundred! We should report this to the police!”
Chen Ji’s eyes brightened: “Right, we can report it, but let’s eat first.”
“Sis, the weather is getting late, and I don’t have a car, so I’m not going back today. I’ll sleep with Dad.”
Xu Jianguo: “…”
Isn’t this the foolish son of the landlord’s family?
Xu Jiajia: “…”
He calls him ‘Dad’ so casually; if you didn’t know better, you’d think they’re biological father and son!
When Old Lady Xu learned that Chen Ji had lost his bicycle, she got so angry that she stood at the door and cursed, “Thieves, there’s karma, you’ll pay for this.”
“Bare-assed tiger beaters, shameless and reckless, a turtle’s ass is full of sores…”
Old Lady Xu really could curse.
She cursed for half an hour without repeating herself.
Chen Ji was so impressed that he handed her a cup of water: “Granny, have some water first.”
After finishing the water, Old Lady Xu shot Chen Ji a look: “You’re so stupid. You come to the house and don’t even put the bike inside, just leave it at the village entrance.”
“Leaving it there was bad enough, but you forgot to lock it.”
“Your neck’s quite cute, but you have a pig’s brain!”
Chen Ji, who was being scolded, didn’t get angry. Instead, he looked at Old Lady Xu with a flattering expression: “I’m just too dumb, so I need a smart sister to help me. With her guidance, I’ll definitely get smarter!”
Old Lady Xu: “…”
Didn’t they say city people are proud?
Why are both of them like this?
While Old Lady Xu was thinking this, a familiar voice came from outside: “Xu Jiajia, I’m here…”
“Bang——” The sound just finished, and with a slip, the person fell in a rather embarrassing way.
Chen Ji couldn’t help but laugh: “Hahaha… A grown person falling down, really embarrassing!”
Li Chengye got up and wiped the dirt off his face: “Who are you?”
Chen Ji put his hands on his hips proudly and said, “I won’t tell you!”
Li Chengye: “…”
How childish!
Old Lady Xu looked at Li Chengye: “Why are you here again?”
You come to the countryside every day; don’t you have a job?
Li Chengye grinned: “I’m here to congratulate Xu Jiajia. She’s amazing, she actually got in!”
He came to offer congratulations, naturally not empty-handed.
Li Chengye picked up the net bag from the ground and handed it to Old Lady Xu: “Granny, I bought some apples. Try them.”
Old Lady Xu couldn’t forget her first meeting with Li Chengye. She wasn’t keen on interacting too much with this guy: “Xiao Li, does your mother know you bought all this stuff?”
Li Chengye lifted his chin and said, “Of course she knows. The money was even from her.”
This answer confused Old Lady Xu: “Doesn’t your mother dislike country people? Why would she allow you to associate with us?”
Before Li Chengye could speak, Chen Ji, standing beside him, got angry: “What? Your mom is like that?”
“My dad always says that workers and farmers are one family. Without the farmers’ hard work, workers wouldn’t have any food to eat!”
“He also says it’s not the farmers who rely on the workers, but the workers who rely on the farmers.”
Old Lady Xu didn’t know Chen Ji’s father, but from that sentence, she could tell he was a good man: “Your dad sounds great!”
Chen Ji proudly said: “Of course, my dad is the deputy director of the machinery factory.”
Old Lady Xu: “…”
This kid, saying it so casually, doesn’t he worry about them using it to gain connections?
Li Chengye was surprised by Chen Ji’s father’s position: “Your dad is the deputy director?”
Chen Ji flirtatiously flipped his bangs: “Doesn’t it look like it?”
Before Li Chengye could answer, Chen Ji continued: “You still haven’t told me, how did your mom agree to let you come?”
