Chapter 51
He Did It on Purpose
With a successful daughter, Xu Jianguo’s perspective had broadened. He no longer bothered with small-minded people, smiling as he said, “Whether it’s true or not, time will tell.”
His attitude left everyone uncertain. Could it be that Xu Jiajia really got into the police department?
Xiao Ankang, who had a close relationship with Xu Jianguo, believed him and smiled, saying, “Jiajia working at the police department is very convenient for people like us who are familiar with her.”
Xu Jianguo had already tasted the sweet fruit of having a well-educated child. He patted his friend on the shoulder: “Make sure your kids study hard, study until they drop.”
Xiao Ankang also wanted to, but with a sickly wife at home, he didn’t have the energy to focus on that. He sighed, exhaustion covering his face: “I want to, but my second child’s grades are great, yet next semester he might have to drop out.”
Seeing his friend’s situation, Xu Jianguo couldn’t bear it. On a sudden impulse, he shoved the five yuan he had in his pocket into Xiao Ankang’s hand: “Take this and pay your second child’s school fees.”
Xiao Ankang immediately pushed it back: “No, no need.”
Xu Jianguo grabbed his hand and forced the money into his palm: “Don’t think it’s too little. The job is thanks to my daughter. She didn’t say anything, but I give her some money every month, and also some to my mother. What I got was just this much.”
Xiao Ankang didn’t think it was little at all: “It’s not little, not little. Five yuan can buy quite a lot of things.”
Years ago, when Xu Laotai (Xu Jianguo’s father) was ill, Xiao Ankang had borrowed 200 yuan to help Xu Jianguo despite his family’s objections. He had never forgotten this kindness.
“Kids must study, get that high school diploma. If there are any exams at the machinery factory, I’ll definitely let you know.”
Xu Jianguo’s words filled Xiao Ankang with hope. Study, no matter how hard or difficult. If they could get through this tough period, life would get better.
“Yes, study. If she doesn’t understand, can she ask Jiajia?”
“No problem. Isn’t Huo Hua self-studying high school material lately? If she doesn’t understand something, she can ask Jiajia.”
Everyone else overhearing their conversation felt a pang of jealousy. Why didn’t their families have a child who could study like that?
After the show-off, Xu Jianguo felt satisfied and at ease: “Mom, those people don’t believe it at all, but I don’t care to argue with them. Time will prove everything.”
The next morning.
Xu Jiajia rode to the police station with Xu Jianguo.
Liu Kui helped her with the paperwork, issued her two uniforms, and gave her two hats.
Xu Jiajia asked, “What about a gun? Doesn’t the police carry guns?”
Liu Kui paused: “You’re new, so you don’t meet the conditions for that yet. But you can train with blank cartridges.”
Though the country was already liberated, Xu Jiajia knew there were still hidden dangers in the world. She felt that learning more skills could only benefit her: “Does the police station have a training ground?”
Liu Kui nodded: “Yes, there’s a field behind the station. When it’s not busy, we go there to train.”
After receiving her uniform, Xu Jiajia left the police station and saw Chen Ji pacing anxiously at the entrance, looking as if something had happened.
Xu Jiajia walked over and asked, “What’s going on?”
When Chen Ji saw Xu Jiajia, it was like seeing a relative. His eyes immediately reddened: “One of my brothers got arrested.”
Xu Jiajia calmly asked, “What’s the reason?”
Chen Ji didn’t dare hide anything: “It was a fight. That guy wanted to marry my brother’s sister, but she didn’t agree. He used force to pressure her, and my brother felt humiliated, so he fought with him. He ended up beating him so badly that the guy ended up in the hospital.”
“His parents reported it, and the police arrested my friend.”
Xu Jiajia led Chen Ji into the police station: “Liu, my brother wants to see someone.”
Liu Kui asked, “Who?”
Chen Ji mentioned a name.
Liu Kui furrowed his brow: “Ruan Jian got into a fight. The other person is seriously injured and still not out of danger. This case is a bit tricky, so you can’t see him yet.”
Chen Ji’s heart sank, and his usual energy disappeared: “Then when can I see him?”
Liu Kui was about to respond when Xu Jiajia suddenly spoke: “I’m from the police, I should be able to see him, right?”
Liu Kui nodded: “No problem. Do you want to see him?”
Xu Jiajia was about to speak when a voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
[Host, this Ruan Jian is really not a good person. Although his injuries aren’t severe, he’s working with the family of the injured to frame Hu Jun. They want Hu Jun to be locked away for life.]
Xu Jiajia’s eyes grew cold. How could a person be this malicious? Do they even realize what this kind of action means?
Xu Jiajia looked at Liu Kui: “I’ll take this case.”
Liu Kui was stunned: “Didn’t you say you’d rest for two days before officially starting?”
Xu Jiajia shot him a look: “Is that not allowed?”
Liu Kui immediately nodded: “Of course, you can. I have Hu Jun’s file here. I’ll give it all to you. If you don’t understand anything, you can ask me.”
Chen Ji, hearing their conversation, felt like he was in a dream. Could it be what he thought it was?
Once Liu Kui left, Chen Ji couldn’t wait to ask Xu Jiajia: “Sis, did you really infiltrate the police?”
Xu Jiajia glanced at him: “What? Is that a problem?”
Chen Ji grinned: “No problem, it’s perfect! With your upright nature, you should be a police officer.”
Xu Jiajia took the materials and went to the detention center alone: “Hu Jun.”
Hu Jun was handcuffed, his hair disheveled, lips cracked, probably from lack of sleep, his eyes red and bloodshot.
Xu Jiajia sat across from him, calmly asking: “Between the two of you, who started the fight?”
Hu Jun rasped, “It was him. He said he wouldn’t spare me or my family. I don’t know what I did to make him hate me so much.”
Immediately, Gua Gua spoke up to Xu Jiajia.
Ruan Jian is in love with a woman who likes Hu Jun. He’s taking revenge; his mind isn’t right.]
Xu Jiajia looked at Hu Jun with a complicated expression. How unlucky can one person be?
“I heard he wanted to marry your sister, but your family didn’t approve.”
As soon as she said this, Hu Jun became agitated: “The police, he did it on purpose! My sister’s only fifteen—how could she get married?”
Xu Jiajia held down the very agitated Hu Jun, speaking softly: “Calm down.”
Her voice was like a gentle spring rain, and Hu Jun immediately calmed down. With red eyes, he said, “Comrade police, I only hit him four times. Those four punches were all because he ran into me. I suspect he did it on purpose.”
Xu Jiajia: “…”
He did it on purpose.
After completing the record, Xu Jiajia went to the hospital.
She wasn’t wearing a uniform and was carrying a can of milk powder.
The hospital staff assumed she was there to visit a patient.
“Excuse me, where is Ruan Jian’s room?”
The nurse replied, “He’s still in the intensive care unit and can’t have visitors.”
Xu Jiajia hadn’t expected Ruan Jian to be so ruthless, still in the ICU: “Where is his attending doctor?”
