Chapter 59 : Found Wild Ginseng
Su Mo walked very quickly and soon reached the mountain, continuing towards the edge of the mountain.
She had been wandering around the deep mountains in the Lujia Village Brigade for the past two days, and today she was exploring the Lijiaao area to see if she could find anything.
As she walked, Su Mo was also sensing her surroundings, absorbing some wood energy from time to time, and soon found a few chestnut trees.
At this time, most of the adults were still finishing the autumn harvest, and most of the people who came to sweep the mountains and gather crops were children. They only dared to walk around the periphery and didn’t venture too deep inside.
Therefore, many chestnuts were still hanging on these trees, obviously not yet harvested by anyone.
Su Mo quickly used her special powers to dry up the weeds under the trees, pulling out the dead grass and picking up the chestnuts that had fallen to the ground. She managed to fill half a basket with them.
Then, she used her supernatural abilities to ripen the chestnuts, found a wooden stick, and knocked down all the ripe chestnuts from the trees. She picked up two full baskets of chestnuts from a few small trees, with the chestnuts intact and without their shells.
Su Mo only left about four or five pounds of chestnuts in her backpack, putting the rest into her space.
Her space wasn’t very large to begin with, and there wasn’t much room left. The space she had freed up after selling four baskets of fruit was about to be filled up again.
After giving the bedding to her parents tomorrow, some space would open up again.
Su Mo continued on her way, selectively collecting whatever she found.
For example, she picked the hazel mushrooms that looked good and left the ones that looked bad. She had a lot of space for pine nuts, but she didn’t like eating them, so she didn’t pick any more. She collected chestnuts and walnuts whenever she came across them, but these two kinds of mountain products were relatively rare, so she didn’t collect many.
In total, she had about four baskets of chestnuts, with one basket left at home. She had about three baskets of walnuts, with two baskets left at home. She had about three baskets of hazel mushrooms, most of which were dried at home. She had one basket of pine nuts at home, with about two baskets left at home.
The harvest was quite abundant.
There wasn’t much meat, though, only two pheasants were caught. It wasn’t that she didn’t encounter any animals, but they were very smart and would run away as soon as they heard any noise. Plus, her main goal was to find wild ginseng, so she didn’t chase them.
Well… if she did chase after them, she probably wouldn’t be able to catch up.
As for the wild boar robe, she wasn’t as lucky as those heroines, and didn’t even see a trace of it. She guessed that the day the wild rabbit came to her was the highlight of her life.
Su Mo wasn’t going back for lunch today, so she kept searching deeper into the mountains. Around noon, when she passed by a bush on a slope, she felt a powerful, majestic energy she had never encountered before.
Su Mo was startled and quickly grabbed a stick to carefully push aside the weeds. In the heart of the weeds, she discovered two clusters of small red fruits.
Su Mo was so excited that tears filled her eyes.
“Mom, I still have some luck!”
She had found wild ginseng so quickly!
She had just said the wrong thing earlier, this was truly her highlight moment.
Su Mo carefully used her supernatural power to dry up the weeds around the plants and pulled them out. After clearing the area, Su Mo discovered that there were actually three wild ginseng plants, two with four-grade leaves and one with five-grade leaves. The one with fruit was the one with five-grade leaves.
Su Mo first carefully picked all the red fruits and packed them in a bag. This was the key to her future wealth.
Since there were no special tools for digging wild ginseng, Su Mo used a dagger, crawled on the ground, and carefully dug, making sure not to break any of the roots.
It took her three or four hours to dig up all three wild ginsengs.
Su Mo wasn’t sure how to determine the age of these wild ginseng plants. The two with four-grade leaves looked relatively small and not very powerful, while the one with five-grade leaves had a strong energy and appeared quite old. It had many small pits (called reed wrists), numerous small whiskers, and several large whiskers.
Su Mo speculated that this plant was at least fifty or sixty years old, if not a hundred.
She carefully collected the wild ginseng and planned to go back and find a few jars to plant them in, using her supernatural powers to stimulate their growth every day and extend their years.
Seeing that it was almost four o’clock, Su Mo quickly packed up her things, put on her backpack, and headed down the mountain. Along the way, she picked up a large piece of firewood, tied it with rope, and dragged it back.
Li Yue’e had forgotten to give Su Mo the kerosene money the day before. When she came over early this morning, Su Mo wasn’t there, when she came at noon, Su Mo still wasn’t home. Now, after work, she was coming over again, but Su Mo was still missing.
She couldn’t help but feel a little worried. Could something have happened to her on the mountain?
Li Yue’e was considering whether she should go back and ask the old man to send someone up the mountain to look for Su Mo, when she turned around and saw her coming from a distance, carrying a backpack and dragging a large pile of firewood behind her.
Li Yue’e: …
She had really misjudged.
She had thought the third brother’s wife was helpless, but she hadn’t expected them to be so capable. He had gone out to harvest the autumn crops and even brought back firewood.
Li Yue’e hurried over and took the firewood from Su Mo. “Where did you go to harvest the autumn crops? You haven’t been home all day.”
“I just walked around the mountain, covered a long distance, and brought some food with me. That’s why I didn’t come back at noon.” Su Mo explained.
Thankfully, she had filled her backpack with chestnuts and walnuts before reaching home. Otherwise, it would have seemed strange to go out for a whole day without bringing something to eat.
Li Yue’e bent over to look. “Oh, how come you picked so many?”
This basket of chestnuts and walnuts weighed at least thirty or forty kilograms. The third brother must be very strong to carry them all the way back from the mountain.
“It’s so heavy, don’t carry firewood next time. Didn’t the third brother ask Guoping to help collect it? Don’t trouble yourself,” Li Yue’e said.
“It’s fine. I saw it on the road and thought it would be a waste, so I dragged it back,” Su Mo replied.
After they got home, Li Yue’e first helped Su Mo move the large firewood to the firewood room. Then she came out and handed fifty cents to Su Mo. “Kerosene money, I forgot to give it to you yesterday.”
Su Mo quickly waved her hand. “Mom, there’s no need for that.”
Li Yue’e pushed the money into Su Mo’s hand. “A few cents is still money. Since we’ve separated, everything needs to be clear. Forget about daily food, but you still have to pay for shopping. You and your husband have to contribute to everything, but how much can you contribute?”
After saying that, Li Yue’e turned to leave, but Su Mo stopped her.
“Okay, I’ll take the money. I picked up a lot of chestnuts and walnuts today. You can take some back to eat.”
Li Yue’e saw that there were indeed a lot of chestnuts and walnuts. Plus, she had been busy at work and hadn’t gone to harvest crops, so she didn’t hesitate to take a bamboo basket from Su Mo’s house, filled half of it with chestnuts and walnuts, and left.
