Chapter 18: Stinky Grass
People started to get up one after another, and the quiet forest became lively. The laughter of children and the curses of adults echoed in the forest.
Su Yin looked at the group of carefree children with a smile on her lips.
She really hoped that they would still be like this in the future, but she knew that the further back they went, the less and less they would smile.
She walked to an open space and began to stretch her body and perform a set of simple boxing movements.
Su’s mother saw it, “Yinyin, what are you doing?”
“Strengthen your body.”
Su’s mother laughed and scolded, “Where did you learn this from?”
“I learned it from a bodyguard master in town some time ago.”
Mother Su didn’t ask any more questions.
The little cousin and the younger cousin found it fun and followed her to learn. After learning for a while, they found it boring and ran away again.
They had a simple meal in the morning. Mother Su made a pot of wild vegetable porridge and served it with pancakes.
The taste of the wild vegetable porridge is average, not as good as the meat porridge last night, but it is still excellent for this body. Of course, this porridge is very thick, not the wild vegetable porridge with clear bottom like that of Da Zhuang.
As the team set off, it was Li Zheng and Yang Dashu who cleared the way.
Su Yin’s family and his uncle’s family were at the front of the queue, while many families who relied on manpower to pull carts were at the back.
“Pa”…
Su Yin swatted away the mosquitoes for the nth time and raised his hand to look at his arm. There were twice as many mosquito bites on it as yesterday, which looked a bit scary.
“These mosquitoes are so poisonous.” Su Yin sighed, inexplicably missing the mosquito repellent toilet water.
Mother Su walked to her side and handed a piece of grass to her, “Yinyin, put this on.”
“I’ll go! It stinks.”
Su Yin suddenly smelled a stench, a pungent smell that went straight to his forehead.
“Although the stink grass smells bad, it repels mosquitoes. Just bear with it for now.”
Between the two, Su Yin decisively chose the latter between being bitten by mosquitoes or letting his nose suffer. The nose is too big to be stuffed with something, but the mosquitoes are a constant source and can’t be bothered.
“Mom, where did you pick it?”
Why didn’t she see it?
“I saw it on the roadside. Fortunately, your mother and I have quick eyesight, otherwise someone would have picked it.”
Stinky grass is not common. It is rooted in the soil and does not emit a smell. Once you pull it out of the soil, it will emit a stink, and mosquitoes will take a long way around if they smell the stink.
This odor will last for an hour or two. When the odor dissipates, the mosquito repellent effect will be gone.
They were a little forward in the middle of the team. If someone saw the smelly grass, it would definitely be picked. If they couldn’t stay behind, let Su’s mother pick this one, it would be considered a fish that slipped through the net.
“Mom, I’ll go take a look in front.”
“Okay, forget it if you don’t.”
“Okay.”
Su Yin walked from the forest, crossed the long queue, and rushed to the front.
“Girl Su, what are you doing?” Yang Lizheng asked.
Yang Lizheng and his grandfather’s family lived in the same room. When talking about it, Su Yin had to call Yang Lizheng his third grandfather.
“Third Grandma, it’s nothing, just looking for some smelly grass.”
“Okay, just walk behind Uncle Dashu.”
Yang Dashu said with a smile: “It’s hard to find this smelly grass. We walked along this way and only saw two or three in total.”
“Girl, you have to keep your eyes open. Look for it with your eyes.” Butcher Yang joked.
Su Yin opened her eyelids with her hands, “Uncle, do you see how big my eyes are?”
“Big, hahaha.”
Suddenly, Su Yin saw a smelly grass behind the bush. Before anyone could react, she pulled out the smelly weeds.
Butcher Yang was surprised, “Oh, it’s different when your eyes are wide open. You found one so quickly.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Su Yin pulling out another smelly grass.
Seeing this, other people all headed in her direction. They searched around, but they couldn’t find the third one.
Everyone returned without success.
Su Yin happily handed one of them to Yang Lizheng, “Here it is, Third Grandfather.”
“Keep it for yourself.”
“I have it.”
Su Yin took the other one back and gave it to Su’s mother. When Su Mu and Su Baozhu walk together, they have the same repellent effect.
After sending it off, Su Yin ran to the front of the team again.
Seeing her return, Butcher Yang said with a smile: “You found two plants, which is already a lot. You are still planning to look for them. There are not that many of them.”
“It’s okay, I’ll just look for it. If there is one, I’ll pick one up. If there’s not one, I’ll take a look. Even so.”
After walking for a quarter of an hour, Su Yin saw the smelly grass in a crack in the stone, and once again pulled it out before anyone could react. His sharp eyes saw the figure of the smelly grass floating in the wind behind the stone.
Su Yin walked around behind the stone and saw a small patch of stinky weeds, with about a dozen stinky weeds.
Su Yin’s eyes lit up and he quickly pulled out seven smelly weeds.
Since the roots start to smell when they are separated from the soil and cannot be stored for a long time, I don’t know if digging the roots with the soil will preserve the smell. When ready to use, shake off the soil.
With the idea in mind, Su Yin dug up the soil by the roots, but things didn’t go in the direction she expected, and the smelly grass still started to stink.
What a pity!
Su Yin dug up eight stinky weeds, which was enough for the family. There was no need to harvest them all. Any more would be useless.
“There are smelly weeds here.” Su Yin shouted, and many people immediately rushed in that direction.
“Oh, there really is one.”
Su Yin ignored the others and returned to the team with eight stinkweeds.
Butcher Yang was greatly shocked, “Su Yatou, your eyes are so powerful.”
Yang Dashu followed up and said, “This is strange, no matter how others look, they can’t find it. It’s especially easy for Su Yatou. Could it be the smelly grass? Like you a little?” “No way, no way, I’m just lucky.” Su Yin waved her hands modestly.
Su Yin came back with eight smelly grasses, which made many people envious.
She gave one stink grass to her eldest uncle and second uncle who drove the ox cart and mule cart respectively, and then gave two plants to her eldest aunt’s house, two to her second aunt’s house, and two to her younger uncle’s house.
Several people share one plant, which is just enough.
The eldest cousin who was walking behind her uncle led the two children forward with a confused look on her face, “Yinyin, are there any extra stinkweeds? My two children are particularly attracted to mosquitoes.”
Su Yin looked at the children held by her eldest cousin’s left and right hands, a little person, only two or three years old, with a lot of red envelopes on his fair and tender face.
Oops, I forgot about my eldest cousin and my second cousin.
Both of them had married outside, and this time both families came with them, and they were forgotten for a while.
“I’ll give this to you first.”
The eldest aunt stepped forward to stop her. “Give me whatever you want.”
She stuffed the smelly grass back into Su Yin’s arms, glared at her eldest daughter fiercely, and quickly took the smelly grass out of her hand. To the eldest daughter.
The eldest cousin looked at Su Yin embarrassedly, and Su Yin waved her hand indifferently.
She glanced at her second cousin’s family in the back.
Come on, keep looking! Who told her to have a special affinity with this smelly grass?
Su Yin returned to the front of the team.
When Yang Dashu and others saw her leaving and returning, they laughed and joked, “Girl Su, there are so many stinky weeds, not enough?”
“There are many people at home, so there is nothing we can do.”
“You don’t have to look for the road ahead, it’s all rocks. There are no trees on the road, and the smelly grass doesn’t grow.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his eyes suddenly opened up. The trees covering his head suddenly decreased sharply, and a large amount of sunlight shone. On both sides of the road directly in front, blue-gray stones and karsts appeared.
The stone forest is a landform, but unlike the stone forest, there are no stone forests that are as tall as mountain peaks. There are only a small part of it with towering sharp stones, and the rest are calf-high or half-height.
Su Yin looked at the scenery in front of him and felt like he had seen it before somewhere.
“It’s so difficult to walk here. Why are there so many rocks?”
“This section of the road is the hardest to walk on. Everyone should be careful, especially those pushing carts.”
Su Yin’s eyes widened suddenly.
This scene, this conversation…are exactly the same as my dream last night!
