Chapter 81: The stone wall open
The people who were burning the rocks turned their heads quickly, and their faces twisted into ugly expressions when their eyes met the group of people who had just arrived.
“Why did they find this place?” “How did they know?”
This was everyone’s question. Yang Lizheng didn’t need to say anything before the people of Xinghua Village grabbed their weapons and pointed them at the uninvited guests.
There were only about forty people in Xinghua Village, but there were eighty people across the street.
Su Yin noticed that besides the people from Qianshan Village, there was also a group of strangers she had never seen before.
It seemed that the two groups had made a deal and were preparing to force them out together.
She looked at the strangers. They were all young adults between twenty and forty years old, and they all carried long knives.
They didn’t look like ordinary farmers.
They were clearly hiding something, but where did they get the news?
Now wasn’t the time to figure that out, they needed to solve the immediate problem.
Wang Lizheng looked at Yang Lizheng with a smile, “Yang Lizheng, we meet again. It seems we are destined.”
Yang Lizheng said nothing. “I heard you found a water source. We are also short of water.
Why don’t we give this place to my younger brother? You can find another place.”
They had seen clearly that there was no pond, no spring, only a huge stone wall with water dripping from the cracks.
There wasn’t much water here, and collecting it was time-consuming.
Wang Lizheng had a plan in mind.
Butcher Yang, hot-tempered as ever, roared at the other group, “Go to hell, you old hag! We found this. If you want water, go find it yourself!”
Wang Lizheng chuckled, “Don’t push your luck. If you don’t cooperate, you’ll regret it. Once we take action, don’t blame us for not letting you see the sun tomorrow.”
The people from Qianshan Village brandished their weapons, ready for a fight.
“Let’s give it a try then.” Yang Dachuan raised his bow and arrow, aiming it at Wang Lizheng.
Wang Lizheng glanced at Yang Dachuan, then at Yang Lizheng, “Yang Lizheng, don’t say we didn’t give you a way out.
You did discover this water source, and we can’t have it all to ourselves.”
“Let’s do this. We’ll get the water first, and you can get it after we’re done. That way, everyone survives without causing a scene. What do you think?”
The people of Xinghua Village were almost laughing in anger.
This man was a cunning strategist.
Not to mention how long it would take for both groups to finish fetching water. They couldn’t afford to waste that time.
And they couldn’t guarantee that the people from Qianshan Village wouldn’t tell others about the water source after leaving.
By then, they wouldn’t just be fighting over water, but facing endless battles with other refugees.
Wang Lizheng had managed to put them in a difficult position without even using a single soldier.
He was ruthless and cunning. “Impossible!” Yang Lizheng refused outright.
“Then don’t blame us for being merciless.” Wang Lizheng’s eyes hardened.
Su Yin spoke up, “I don’t think you have the authority to make this decision. Do you?”
Her eyes locked on the gentle scholar in the crowd.
Although he stood casually and never spoke from the beginning to the end, judging from the position of the group, he seemed to be the leader, taking a protective stance.
So she judged that this gentle scholar, Mr. Siwen, must be the leader of this strange team.
If she could win him over, the people of Qianshan Village would have nothing to fear.
Mr. Siwen raised his eyebrows in surprise, slowly walked out of the crowd, stood at the front, lightly shook his feather fan, “Girl, you have good eyesight.”
This sentence was a slap in the face of Wang Lizheng, directly destroying his authority.
The people of Qianshan Village wanted to get angry, but Wang Lizheng stopped them with a look.
Ignoring the weapons pointed at him by the people of Xinghua Village, Mr. Siwen walked forward and looked at the fire under the stone wall, then at the pitiful water droplets.
“Are you planning to dig up this place?”
“Yes.” Su Yin nodded, “I guess there might be stored water, or maybe springs, underground rivers, etc.”
“Right now, it’s just the stone wall. The dripping water is a waste of time, so we’re going to cut it open.
Maybe there will be a surprise, or maybe there will be nothing, even the last bit of water will be gone,” she said bluntly.
Even if she hadn’t said it, the other person would have been able to figure it out.
The probability of underground rivers and the like was very small, but the world was full of wonders, so it was a possibility.
What was conjecture? It was a bold guess and a bold thought. If you didn’t have the courage to even think about it, then you were destined to have a short journey.
Si Wensheng nodded in agreement, “It is indeed a good idea.”
After hearing what Su Yin said, the people of Qianshan Village were the first to disagree.
“Are you guys just kidding? If you do that, you’ll waste your last bit of water.”
“Li Zheng, we have to stop them quickly.”
“We finally found some water, but we can’t let them act like this.”
Wang Lizheng raised his hand to silence the comments below and looked at Mr. Siwen, “This is too risky, I don’t think it’s appropriate. What do you think?”
Mr. Siwen, the scholar, ignored him and observed the stone wall with great interest. He walked around the stone wall, squatted down to pick up a piece of soil, put it to his nose and smelled it.
Seeing that he didn’t respond for a long time, the smile on Wang Lizheng’s lips became stiffer and stiffer, and a gloomy look flashed between his eyebrows.
Mr. Si Wensheng stood up, patted the soil in his hands, and turned to look at Su Yin, “Maybe your guess is right.”
He then looked at Wang Lizheng, “It’s just an adventure, worth a try.”
“Water dug out of it. It’s good for all three of us.”
Wang Lizheng could only agree awkwardly.
“Time is running out. All your people will go to the top of the mountain to look for firewood, and the other people will dig together.”
As the saying goes, there’s strength in numbers. With their participation, the hard stone wall began to crack.
It took a lot of strength to break the stone, but there were many of them, and each of them took turns hammering.
After several rounds, no matter how hard the stone wall was, it couldn’t withstand such an impact.
The people of Xinghua Village were worried, and Yang Li was pulling Su Yin away.
“After the stone wall is cut, no one knows what’s going on inside. If there is an underground river, then we don’t need to waste words with them, we can just get water each. If there is only a small puddle inside, I’m afraid it won’t be our turn.”
This was what Su Yin was worried about.
“Girl Su, is there any way you can convince that scholar to side with us?”
They had conflicts with the people of Qianshan Village, and they would never let them have an easy time.
Therefore, winning over a third party was the best option.
“Third Grandfather, don’t worry, I will find a way.” Su Yin squinted, a fierce look flashing in her eyes.
She would never resort to extreme measures unless absolutely necessary.
At that moment, a surprised voice came from beneath the lush tree, “It’s open, it’s open!”
