Chapter 15: The Agreement Marriage 3
Grandmother Gu, seeing that her goal had been achieved, decided to stop pretending and sat up directly.
This startled the second son of the Gu family.
He was taken aback and, after recovering, asked, “Mother, you aren’t really sick, are you?”
Grandmother Gu rolled her eyes at him and scolded, “You ungrateful child, I raised you with so much difficulty, and you wish for me to be ill, don’t you?”
Gu Hai Xiong immediately apologized, “Mother, that’s not what I meant. I just saw you sick and was too anxious, so I spoke without thinking.”
At that moment, the four people who had been fighting earlier came over.
Gu Le You knew right away that the old lady was pretending to be sick.
The old lady was skilled at using people’s sympathy, and her father, being more straightforward, didn’t notice it.
If he had known earlier, he wouldn’t have listened to his aunt and come over. Now, he was in a dilemma—he couldn’t leave and couldn’t stay either.
At that moment, Gu Hai Xiong called his children over and solemnly told his daughter, “I’ve discussed with your grandmother, and in three days, you will get married.”
This statement stunned the three of them.
Lin Shi was the first to oppose.
Three days was really too rushed. At the very least, it would take half a month to a month to prepare. In these three days, they wouldn’t even have enough time to prepare everything. They couldn’t just send their daughter off without anything, or the whole village would make fun of them.
“Head of the family, this is your biological daughter! For the sake of your mother, you’re rushing to marry her off? Don’t you think this is strange?”
Yang Shi knew her sister-in-law would definitely oppose this, so she quickly spoke on behalf of her mother-in-law: “Mother hired someone to pick an auspicious day, and it’s three days later. She even spent money for it. As a mother, she would never deceive her children. What are you still worried about?”
“Of course, if it were your daughter getting married in three days, you wouldn’t say such things.”
For the sake of her daughter, Lin Shi was willing to go all out and even dared to argue with her sister-in-law.
At that moment, Gu Hai Cheng, the eldest son, noticed the injury on his wife’s face and immediately became anxious. “Who did this to you? Tell me, and I’ll deal with it!”
At this point, Yang Shi began to cry in a pretentious manner.
She wiped away her tears and pointed at the second family, saying, “Please, Mother, do something about this! I kindly went to the second family and called them all, but they didn’t believe I was sick and even fought with me. The injuries on my face were caused by them! They need to pay for my medical expenses. It’s not easy to find medicine for treatment, and it costs quite a bit!”
Gu Le You coldly snorted, “Aunt, stop making unreasonable demands. You started by scolding us, and you were the one who tried to hit us. We only defended ourselves.”
Gu Hai Xiong naturally believed his wife and daughter, but Gu Hai Cheng still believed his wife.
At that moment, Ming Yue came out from the inner room. He had overheard the second aunt talking about him, so he sarcastically said, “Second aunt, I don’t have the courage to make a fool of myself like my younger sister did and turn the entire Gu family into a laughingstock.”
Grandmother Gu, who had always favored her grandsons, would usually be indifferent to her granddaughters, but since the second granddaughter could bring so much money with her marriage, she was willing to be more lenient. So, in front of the eldest family, she criticized her eldest granddaughter.
“Ming Yue, this is a matter between adults, so you, a young girl, should go back inside.”
Gu Le You was almost certain that she had heard wrong. The usually biased Grandmother Gu was actually standing up for them today.
Something was definitely wrong.
So, Gu Le You gave her mother a glance.
Lin Shi sat down on the ground and began wailing.
This completely caught everyone off guard.
Grandmother Gu, who had been annoyed by the wailing, immediately called for her son.
“Second wife, can’t you control your wife? If she keeps wailing like this, the neighbors will definitely come over to watch.”
Although country people go to bed early, if there’s any commotion, they’ll definitely get up to watch.
So, Lin Shi’s crying attracted some curious villagers.
The village head, who was never at ease, had just gotten into bed when someone knocked on his door again.
He didn’t even have to think—this must be about the Gu family again, so he didn’t plan to intervene this time.
Instead, he sent his wife to handle it, as her tough attitude was well known throughout the village.
The village head’s wife reluctantly got up, threw on a coat, opened the door, and yelled, “Everyone, go away and don’t disturb me!”
When the villagers heard her loud voice, they immediately understood the village head’s wife was angry, so they quickly left.
At the Gu family’s eldest house.
Lin Shi’s wailing left everyone unsure of how to respond.
Grandmother Gu, losing the battle, softened her tone and said, “Second wife, what do you want? Three days is not a long time. Do you want ten days or half a month? If that’s the case, when will your daughter’s marriage happen?”
“Mother, I don’t care. Three days is too short. I’ve raised my daughter with so much difficulty, and now you want to send her off so quickly. As a mother, it hurts my heart.”
Grandmother Gu said this, but the eldest daughter-in-law didn’t like it. The longer this dragged on, the more likely something could go wrong, and she wouldn’t get a single cent from the dowry.
So, she could wait for three days, but not thirty days.
Before she could oppose, Grandmother Gu already agreed.
“Fine, I’ll give you at most half a month, but you need to have your second son write a guarantee letter so that you can’t back out later. Who will I go to if you change your mind?”
“….”
Gu Le You knew things weren’t that simple.
They were in such a hurry to marry her off, so there must be another purpose behind it. She had to find a chance to get some information from her aunt.
After Gu Hai Xiong wrote and signed the guarantee letter, he pressed his handprint on it.
Grandmother Gu, satisfied, took the guarantee letter her son had written.
With this guarantee letter, they wouldn’t have to worry about them backing out. Even if the hunter’s deposit didn’t leave much, it was still better than nothing.
At this point, Lin Shi thought of the dowry and was about to speak, but Gu Le You grabbed her sleeve. If they mentioned it at her aunt’s house, it would become a shared issue. They had already been eyeing that dowry money, and they shouldn’t let them know that the dowry wasn’t meant for them.
Lin Shi immediately closed her mouth.
She became very cautious. The family’s issues should be resolved behind closed doors.
