Chapter 16: The Agreement Marriage 4
It was already very late, and just as they were planning to go home, they were stopped by the eldest brother, Gu Haicheng.
“You can’t leave yet.”
Seeing this, Grandma Gu quickly intervened.
“Eldest, why aren’t you letting them go? Hurry up and move so they can leave.”
Eldest Gu Haicheng looked at his mother and explained, “My wife’s injury is probably related to the second family. If they leave, who am I going to ask for the medical expenses?”
Grandma Gu shouted angrily, “Eldest, what nonsense are you talking? Move out of the way, don’t block the path.”
Faced with his mother’s anger, Gu Haicheng had no choice but to obediently clear the way.
The second family quickly left.
After leaving the eldest brother’s house, on their way back home, Gu Le You was constantly thinking about how her grandmother changed her face faster than flipping a book.
There was definitely something wrong here.
At this point, Gu Haixiong noticed the injuries on his wife’s face.
He asked with concern, “Wife, does it hurt? Did you get into a fight with eldest sister-in-law?”
Gu Le Shu quickly replied, “Yes, dad, we fought with eldest sister-in-law, and we all have injuries on our faces.”
Gu Haixiong sighed, placing his hands behind his back and lectured his son, “How can you children fight with the elders? And now you’re all injured. Thankfully, it’s late at night; if it were during the day, people would be gossiping about us.”
Gu Le You refuted her father, “Dad, mom, I know you are both honest people, but honest people can’t just let others bully us.”
Gu Le Shu also chimed in, “Yes, dad, mom, what sister said makes sense. Every time eldest sister-in-law comes to our house, she’s looking for trouble. This time, we couldn’t take it anymore, and that’s why we fought with her.”
Hearing her children say this, Lin Shi also felt wronged and almost sat down on the ground and cried out again. Thankfully, Gu Haixiong quickly pulled her up.
“You woman, you already made a scene at eldest brother’s house, now what? Are you going to make a scene again on the way home? If you keep crying, the neighbors will come and watch the fun. Let’s talk when we get home.”
So, Lin Shi cried and complained all the way home.
Once they arrived, the family sat together in the yard and discussed the matter of their daughter getting married. This had already been set, and there was no changing it.
Gu Le You said, “Don’t worry about this, I’m willing to go through with it. Since Grandma has agreed to it, you have over ten days to prepare properly.”
“Big sister, I’m going to miss you. After you get married, can I still visit you at your future husband’s house?”
Gu Le You was initially a bit sad, but she couldn’t help laughing at her brother’s words.
“Don’t think about playing all the time. Go to the academy and study hard. Later on, aim for a good position, and then our family will have a better life.”
“Your sister is right. Don’t think about playing all the time. Study hard. A man must rely on himself, don’t always expect others to help you.” Gu Haixiong also lectured.
Gu Le Shu could only nod in disappointment.
He stood up and went to his room.
“Dad, mom, I need to go out tomorrow. I promised Brother Lu I would go check on his children. I must keep my word.”
“You girl, stop thinking about running around. Once you marry into their family, you’ll see his children every day. There’s no need to hurry. You still have a few days,” Gu Haixiong directly rejected his daughter’s request.
“Dad, mom, you’ve always taught me to be honest. I promised, so I must go. It wouldn’t be right if I don’t. Let’s leave it at that. I’ll rest now.”
With that, she stood up and walked toward her room, not giving her parents a chance to refuse.
The next morning, she woke up early and even made breakfast for Lin Shi.
While the family was eating breakfast, her eldest aunt’s daughter arrived.
Seeing them still eating breakfast, she spoke in a sarcastic tone.
“Second uncle’s family is so leisurely, still sitting down to eat together.”
Gu Le You was not in the mood to tolerate her. She put down her chopsticks and directly retorted.
“Cousin, why aren’t you eating at home? Why come to our house? Besides, what else are we supposed to do at this time if not eating?”
Gu Mingyue didn’t beat around the bush and pulled up a chair, sitting down in a superior manner. “You’ve hurt my mother, and now we need to talk about the medical expenses and some other miscellaneous costs. How much are you planning to give?”
“How much do you want?” Gu Le You asked as she bit into the bun, responding with a counter-question.
“Give ten taels of silver. My mother’s face is injured, and we don’t know if there are other injuries. We need to hire a doctor to check thoroughly. Ten taels is a friendly price for relatives.”
Gu Le Shu, hearing his cousin demand such an outrageous amount, immediately spat out the porridge in shock and looked at his cousin in disbelief.
Gu Le You was sprayed all over her face and clothes, so she immediately shot back.
“Gu Le Shu, can’t you be more careful? We’re older than you. Can’t you pay attention while eating? This is a new dress, and you need to compensate me.”
Gu Le Shu immediately understood his sister’s meaning.
He quickly pointed the finger at his cousin.
“Sister, this should be blamed on cousin. If she hadn’t asked us for money and mentioned such a large amount, I wouldn’t have been shocked and spat out my porridge.”
Seeing that they had shifted the blame onto her, Gu Mingyue was immediately furious.
“So, you’re saying it’s also my fault that you hit my mother? No matter what, hitting someone is wrong, and you should pay for the medical expenses.”
“Well, Mingyue, if your mother hit your second aunt, should we go ask your parents for compensation?” Gu Haixiong coldly asked.
“Second uncle, you can’t say that. My injury was worse than second aunt’s. I haven’t even dared to go out; I’ve been staying at home,” Gu Mingyue replied.
Lin Shi, who had finished her breakfast, put down her chopsticks and said calmly, “Are you blaming everything on our family?”
Gu Mingyue didn’t respond but nodded, tacitly agreeing.
She believed that everything was the fault of her second uncle and aunt.
Gu Le You thought her cousin was pretty, but she was still quite foolish.
Maybe it was the whole family, all of them were the same, blinded by money.
As long as they got money, they would do anything, say anything, no matter how extreme.
“Dad, mom, I have something to do outside. If Cousin wants to stay here, you can invite her for lunch. I’ll leave now.”
After saying this, she stood up to leave the table, but Gu Mingyue blocked her path.
“I haven’t finished talking, and you want to leave? No, you can’t leave.” She looked fierce, almost identical to her mother.
“…”
Really, the whole family was the same, without a doubt.
“What do you want?” Gu Le You asked, watching her warily.
