Du Wanchun turned back to Zhou Daniu and Du Damei with a bright smile. “Mother, Aunt, come and try it!”
Zhou Daniu quickly picked up her chopsticks and took a bite of tofu. The moment it entered her mouth, her eyes widened in surprise. After taking a few more bites, she nodded in approval. “Wanchun is right—it’s really delicious!”
Du Wanchun handed out bowls and chopsticks, serving Du Damei some food as well.
At first, Du Damei cautiously took a small bite, but soon, she couldn’t stop herself and began eating ravenously.
Just then, Zhou Zhao walked in from the backyard. Seeing that Zhou Daniu and Du Wanchun had returned, he greeted them with a cheerful smile. “Mother, Sister-in-law, you’re back!”
“Zhao’er, come help Mother serve the rice,” Zhou Daniu called to him with a smile.
“Alright, Mother!” Zhou Zhao replied happily and stepped forward.
Meanwhile, Du Damei continued to eat with enthusiasm, as if she hadn’t had a full meal in a long time.
Du Wanchun sat beside Zhou Ruiyuan and lowered her voice to ask, “Husband, your cooking is so good—did you really learn it from Aunt Wang?”
Zhou Ruiyuan nodded. “Yes, I did.”
As he spoke, he picked up a piece of meat and placed it in Du Wanchun’s bowl. “Last night, you talked in your sleep.”
Du Wanchun was startled and asked quietly, “What did I say?”
With a straight face, Zhou Ruiyuan replied, “You said, ‘The bamboo shoots in the mountains have sprouted. I want to eat spring bamboo shoots.’”
Du Wanchun had indeed been craving spring bamboo shoots yesterday, but she found it hard to believe that she had actually spoken in her sleep. “Did I really say that?”
Zhou Ruiyuan served her a bowl of soup and responded with a calm “Mm.”
Last night, Du Wanchun had gone to bed late, so she slept deeply.
However, Zhou Ruiyuan had been a light sleeper.
In her dreams, Du Wanchun had drowsily clung to his arm, mumbling about wanting to eat spring bamboo shoots. Her soft, rosy lips had even pressed against his skin, nibbling him a few times.
It hadn’t been painful, but it had certainly been distracting—enough to leave his lower abdomen tingling.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Zhou Ruiyuan cleared his throat lightly. “Wife, if you want to eat anything in the future, just tell me. I’ll make it for you.”
It was almost unbelievable how serious he looked while saying something so tender.
Du Wanchun was caught off guard but felt a warm happiness in her heart. She smiled sweetly and replied, “Thank you, Husband.”
At the side, Du Damei watched the couple’s affectionate interaction, her eyes turning red again—not from sadness this time, but from joy.
Zhou Daniu brought in the rice and called for Du Damei to eat.
Du Damei ate several bowls, and by the time the moon hung high in the sky, she took her child and returned home.
As soon as she left, Zhou Ruiyuan couldn’t wait any longer—he pulled Du Wanchun into their room.
The next morning, Du Wanchun slowly got up, supporting her sore waist.
Her hair was messy, and wrinkled clothes were scattered around the bed. Behind her, Zhou Ruiyuan lay asleep, his eyes closed in deep rest.
She reached out and gently poked his handsome face with her finger, finally realizing something—Zhou Ruiyuan was not just all talk. He learned things quickly.
Last night was only the second time, yet he had completely worn her out.
No wonder he had picked up cooking in just one day and even made dishes better than the ones Zhou Daniu had been cooking for years.
Seeing that Zhou Ruiyuan was still asleep, Du Wanchun quickly grabbed her clothes from the floor and got out of bed. If she didn’t leave now, once he woke up, she might not get the chance.
When she reached the front room, Zhou Daniu had already prepared breakfast.
After washing up, Du Wanchun fed the chickens and ducks before sitting down to eat with her mother-in-law.
Zhou Daniu looked at her glowing face and said softly, “Wanchun, maybe you shouldn’t come up the mountain with me next time.”
Du Wanchun looked up in confusion. “Why, Mother?”
Zhou Daniu smiled. “If you get pregnant, that wouldn’t be good.”
Du Wanchun almost choked on her porridge. “Mother, it’s too soon for that!”
Taking a bite of her steamed bun, Zhou Daniu said, “Why not? I got pregnant with Ruiyuan in the first month after marrying his father.”
Du Wanchun’s face turned red. It had only been a few days—surely it was too early. But thinking about her husband’s energy, in a few months, it might not be impossible…
She quickly finished her porridge and changed the subject. “Mother, instead of going up the mountain today, why don’t we visit Aunt’s house and check on the porcelain bottles?”
Zhou Daniu handed her another steamed bun. “I was thinking the same. If their kiln still works, we can make our own porcelain. That way, we can save money and buy more spices to make different kinds of scented oils.”
“Sounds good, Mother.” Du Wanchun took the bun with a smile.
Yesterday, they had officially named their incense shop Zhou Family Fragrance Shop. Right now, they mainly sold scented oils, sandalwood incense cones, and everyday incense sticks.
Business had been steady over the past few days, bringing in some income.
But for a fragrance shop to do well, they needed more. Du Wanchun planned to make fragrant powders, balms, and incense beads with Zhou Daniu.
Before that, learning how the Cao family made porcelain would help a lot. If they mastered the skill, they wouldn’t have to worry about running out of bottles for their scented oils. They could even make snuff bottles, which noble families liked.
They could also create their own patterns on the porcelain, making them more lasting than painting on pre-made bottles.
After finishing breakfast, the two of them went to the Cao family’s house.
The Cao family wasn’t rich, but they lived better than most villagers.
Their home was a brick house with a tiled roof and a small courtyard at the entrance. Walking further in led to the main house.
When they reached the door, Du Wanchun called out, “Aunt, are you home?”
Before long, a sharp voice came from inside the house.
“You useless woman! Get out! Get out of my house!”
