Chapter 14: The Real Daughter vs. The Fake Daughter
At first glance, she was clearly not an easy person to get along with. She didn’t want Lin Qiyan to disturb the Wang family’s life again. She was petty and couldn’t tolerate any sad in her eyes.
If the Wang family valued Lin Qiyan more, she could go crazy, and she didn’t know what she might do.
After all, she wasn’t the type to exhaust herself internally; she only went mad and made others uncomfortable.
Upon hearing this, Lin Qiyan rolled her eyes. “Of course, who would want to deal with them? You think it’s all like you—so pitiful, with such parents. Since you’ve taken money from my family, we can just part ways from now on.”
“Ah, Qiyan, stop talking like that. You can’t say such things,” Mr. Lin said. He would definitely soften when necessary, especially since this matter no longer worked in their favor. If the young lady changed her mind again, they would have no way of handling it.
Su Baili’s mood immediately soured. Following the principle of “If I’m in a bad mood, you shouldn’t be in a good one either,” she sneered, “Mr. Lin, raising a child until they’re twenty costs at least two to three hundred thousand a year, right? If you hire a nanny, how much would you pay her every month? Over twenty years, doesn’t that add up to a million? To be blunt, it’s just paying off a beggar. I haven’t complained about your petty behavior, but now you’re acting like you have some backbone because we accepted this money. Can you tell me where that backbone comes from?”
Mr. Lin’s face turned bright red from her words. That one million might seem like a lot, but as Su Baili said, it wasn’t even close to covering the twenty years of raising her.
Even if the Wang family had been like nannies, the cost of hiring a nanny for twenty years would have been astronomical. Not to mention the daily needs and emotional effort involved.
So, taking this money didn’t make them feel guilty; on the contrary, it felt completely justified. Meanwhile, the person who gave the money, Mr. Lin, appeared stingy. He had someone else raise his daughter for twenty years and gave them only this much money.
Wasn’t it clear that he had never truly regarded the Wang family as important?
He thought one million would be enough to settle everything, but it had landed him in this embarrassing situation.
“Yes, yes, you’re right. I’ll make sure to educate Qiyan. It’s her who didn’t understand this,” Mr. Lin stammered.
Su Baili pressed on, “If your family or your precious daughter says anything like this again, or if any bad rumors spread, I’ll put this matter online and thoroughly analyze it. Then everyone will see who is really shameless.”
“We won’t let this matter leak out, don’t worry.” Mr. Lin quickly assured her, terrified that this might affect his company’s stock price. He shot a glare at Lin Qiyan. “You too. Apologize quickly.”
Although Lin Qiyan was very reluctant, Su Baili’s words had hit a sore spot, and she had no way to refute them. After all, what she said was the truth. Lin Qiyan bit her lip, unwillingly muttering, “Fine, sorry. I won’t say anything else. If I run into you on the road, I’ll pretend not to know you. Is that okay?”
After that, she stomped her foot and ran upstairs.
Mrs. Lin sighed, standing up. “This child… she probably hasn’t adjusted to the sudden changes, so she’s acting out. I’ll go up and try to talk to her. You two can continue talking.”
Mr. Wang felt his heart harden like stone at that moment. He waved his hand and said, “No more talking. Let’s leave it at that. We’ll never see them again. Baili, let’s go.”
“Take care.” Mr. Lin waved his hand and called, “Mama Sun, go see the guests off.”
Once they were all completely gone, Mr. Lin, furious, spat a mouthful of saliva. “What a joke, acting like that with me. At least this matter is resolved, and we don’t ever have to see them again. If someone like that clung to me, I’d be disgusted.”
But deep down, he knew the other party wouldn’t cling to him. His anger was just a result of his own guilt. In the future, when comparing his newly found daughter to their daughter, it would be embarrassing. If things continued like this, how could he hold his head up?
Mr. Lin furrowed his brow. No, he needed to make sure the child’s mother took better control of things.
Outside the Lin family’s villa, the three of them stood with no one around.
They faced each other on the asphalt road.
Since this was a famous villa area in the city, with high prices, the design’s appearance didn’t matter as much, but the privacy was certainly top-notch.
People living here were always driven from door to door, and it took at least ten minutes to drive from the yard of one house to the gate of the neighborhood. Unless absolutely necessary, it was almost impossible to see pedestrians on the road.
Even when the homeowners wanted to take a walk after meals, their own yards were enough, and they wouldn’t go into the neighborhood itself.
So, the Wang couple found themselves in a bit of an awkward situation.
They were driven here by someone from the Lin family, but they hadn’t thought about how they would get back.
This place didn’t seem like a place where taxis would easily come, and it would take them over half an hour to walk to the gate, especially since Mr. Wang’s legs were not very mobile.
Zhao Qing awkwardly smiled at Su Baili, “Sorry, I’ve made you see this. How about this—why don’t you and Mr. Wang wait here for a bit while I go to the gate to find a taxi?”
Mr. Wang looked at Su Baili nervously, “If you don’t want to come home with us, we can take you back to school. You can always come by another time when you have some free time.”
“It’s fine, I’ll go with you to have a look,” Su Baili, feeling the nervous and expectant gazes of the Wang couple, couldn’t bring herself to refuse. “You don’t need to go out to call a taxi. I’ve already ordered a ride on my phone. It’ll be here soon.”
When the Wang couple heard this, their eyes instantly brightened with joy.
Wang Mother said, “Good, good, good child! Your father and I have prepared a room for you. If you’re not in a hurry to leave, you can stay for a day.”
Mr. Wang added, “That’s not right. What do you mean stay for a day? If you’re willing, you can stay at home anytime. Your mother’s cooking is delicious.”
Wang Mother laughed and slapped her own mouth, “Oh my, look at my mouth. You’re right. This is your home. Baili, you can stay as long as you want. Whenever you want to come back, just come. We’ve always kept a room for you.”
Su Baili smiled warmly at the cautious parents.
Her smile melted their hearts instantly.
How could they have such a beautiful daughter? If they hadn’t done a paternity test, they might have started to doubt themselves.
A moment later, a luxurious black Maybach pulled up in front of them, stopping directly in front of them.
Even Mr. Wang, who didn’t know much about cars, could tell this car wasn’t cheap.
Seeing his daughter open the car door, he couldn’t help but say, “Baili, don’t get in the wrong car. This car isn’t cheap. How could it possibly be here for a ride-sharing service?”
