Chapter 21: The Night with Hidden Currents
Qi Shenzhi held Su Baili in his arms and laughed, “Alright, it’s my fault for misunderstanding you. I apologize.”
Su Baili huffed arrogantly, then picked up a small cake from the side. “My little brother asked me to bring this back to share with my classmates, but since I didn’t return to school, I’ll let you have it. Come, have the first bite.”
Qi Shenzhi didn’t like sweet foods and immediately declined, “I’m good, you eat it yourself.”
Su Baili pouted and firmly placed the cake near Qi Shenzhi’s mouth, “Just one bite, hurry up and eat it~”
This was the first gift her parents had bought for her, and she really wanted to share it with Qi Shenzhi.
Qi Shenzhi looked at the fork in front of him and obediently took a bite.
Seeing him eat, Su Baili took the fork back, not minding his saliva, and happily ate it herself.
The butler, watching from behind, couldn’t help but smile. As fierce as Mr. Qi was outside, when he came home and faced his least favorite sweet food, he still had to eat it obediently.
Indeed, the young lady was at the top of the family’s food chain.
The butler thoughtfully led the other servants out, leaving the space for the couple to enjoy their time together.
Seeing Su Baili so happy, Qi Shenzhi couldn’t help but smile as well.
He gently stroked her hair and said softly, “If you like it, I’ll buy it for you next time.”
“But it’s different~”
A boyfriend is a boyfriend, but this was something her parents had bought, and it felt different.
Qi Shenzhi stared at her red lips smeared with cream, his eyes darkening.
What was this feeling of jealousy?
Suddenly, he stood up, lifted Su Baili in his arms, and she was startled. Her hand holding the cake trembled, nearly dropping it.
She quickly steadied the tray to prevent the cake from falling.
Su Baili’s voice, half teasing, half flustered, came through, “What are you doing? My little cake almost fell!”
Qi Shenzhi didn’t answer. He just carried her steadily up to the second floor.
Su Baili’s hairs stood on end as she sensed something was wrong.
When they finally reached the soft, large bed, her face revealed the “I knew it” expression.
This damn sixth sense was really accurate…
Su Baili struggled, but to no avail, and her poor cake was helplessly thrown onto the bed.
Qi Shenzhi leaned down and kissed her incessant little mouth, tasting the sweet cream flavor.
This was much better than the bite of cake earlier. Su Baili’s mind went blank, like a drowning fish.
After a moment, Qi Shenzhi released her, a smile in his eyes, “So sweet…”
“Ahhhhh—” Su Baili snapped back to reality, her cheeks flushed, shyly screaming out loud, which stopped Qi Shenzhi from continuing.
Her amusing reaction pleased him greatly, and his eyes deepened even more as he leaned in again.
Time ticked by.
The sky was already lightening when the bedroom finally fell quiet again.
The air conditioning was set a bit too low, and her arms, marked with faint red lines, peeked out from under the blanket. Qi Shenzhi tucked them back in.
He looked at her exhausted face in his arms, realizing he had gone too far today.
Perhaps sensing his unease, Li Li unusually tolerated his bad temper and went with the flow.
This led to the usually calm and composed, cold, and indifferent Qi Shenzhi…
The man had completely lost his composure.
His once-proud rationality had long since been discarded somewhere.
Qi Shenzhi looked at the soft face in his arms, always wanting to break this beautiful little canary’s wings and trap her.
But he couldn’t…
He didn’t want to see the look of disappointment in Li Li’s eyes.
But Li Li was so adorable, and as she grew, more people would surely fall for her. When they all gathered around her, how much attention would be left for him?
He couldn’t even bear to imagine it.
He only hoped that in the future, Li Li would always place him first, just like today.
If one day her gaze truly shifted…
If he was no longer the most important person to her…
Qi Shenzhi lowered his eyes, smiling softly, though the gloom in his eyes was entirely buried in the shadows.
By then, he would have to make do with his Li Li…
Qi Shenzhi thought perversely, wondering why he actually hoped for such a day to come.
He chuckled quietly, then lowered his head to kiss the forehead of the person in his arms, pulling her closer.
The person in his arms mumbled in dissatisfaction, but he quickly reached out and gently patted her back to comfort her.
Before long, only the sound of their steady breathing intertwined, filling the room.
Time passed swiftly, and before they knew it, the weekend arrived.
Su Baili had originally planned to visit home.
After all, for the past week, she had frequently received cautious calls from the Wang couple. They didn’t have anything important to say, just checking in on her well-being.
Then there were the daily text messages from Xiao Feng, and this sensation was quite strange. It made her feel that they really wanted her to visit for the weekend, even if it was just to have a meal together without doing anything special.
However, she recalled that last weekend, Qi Shenzhi’s mood seemed to be a bit off.
After that crazy night, she felt as if she had been run over by a car the next day.
Even now, she still felt a slight soreness in her lower back.
Although she had been in contact with her dear boyfriend every day, they hadn’t seen each other in person, and she wasn’t sure if he had recovered yet.
Su Baili thought for a moment, and decided that her brother was more important. Maybe she should spend some time with him first, and then go home for dinner tomorrow afternoon before returning to school?
With a decision in mind, she immediately picked up the phone.
But there was no sound on the other end. Su Baili thought for a moment, then hung up the long-standing call, choosing to dial a different number.
This time, the phone was picked up quickly, but the voice on the other end was clearly not Shenzhi’s, but Assistant Chen’s.
“Miss?”
Su Baili asked in confusion, “Assistant Chen? Where’s Shenzhi?”
Assistant Chen lowered his voice and said, “Sir is at Lanting for a meeting. Would you like me to bring the phone to him?”
Su Baili thought for a moment but decided there was no urgency, “No need. How long have you been there? Is it convenient for me to come over?”
“We just arrived. It looks like it will take a while. You’re always welcome to visit anytime,” Assistant Chen replied.
He thought to himself that there was nothing bigger than the arrival of this ‘ancestor.’ Who would dare turn her away? Even Mr. Qi wouldn’t have the courage to do so, so he didn’t even need to ask. Of course, he wouldn’t say that aloud…
Looks like today was just another day for an humble, obedient assistant.
“Alright, I’ll head over now,” Su Baili said. She hadn’t eaten yet and was craving the delicious food at Lanting, so without hesitation, she instructed Uncle Chen to drive them there.
