Chapter 395: Twins

The Golden Swallow shook his head, saying, “If it’s just one, people can tell from the shape of the belly. But with two inside Mommy’s tummy, it’s hard to tell. I hope for a brother and a sister…”

Chen Feng’s children hadn’t been born yet, but this little one was already lively, even using the term “belly”.

Before she could finish speaking, there was a commotion among the agarwood branches, and a golden house swayed vigorously.

The Golden Swallow chuckled, “Don’t worry, Jinbei. Big brother will take you out to play with your little brothers and sisters.”

Seeing the Golden Swallow fly towards the golden house, Chen Feng lifted her clothes. The Golden Swallow picked up Jinbei with his beak and placed Jinbei directly on Chen Feng’s belly, where Jinbei stood.

Another miracle unfolded as the usually calm fetus began to misbehave. They couldn’t quite flip yet, so they resorted to punching and kicking, causing bulges here and there on Chen Feng’s belly.

The Golden Swallow hopped from one bulge to another, chirping with joy. Jinbei seemed “excited”; whenever placed on a bulge, its wings would slightly open, and its small pointed beak would elongate, as if wanting to kiss the fetus in the belly.

Every fetal movement now brought Chen Feng a more painful experience, as her belly had reached its limit. Each kick and punch from the little ones caused considerable discomfort.

However, witnessing this scene brought her joy despite the pain.

She caressed Jinbei, saying, “They’ll be here soon. I wonder when Jinbei will hatch into life. If Jinbei comes to life first, it’ll be a big brother or sister. If they come out first, Jinbei will be a little brother or sister.”

As she spoke, Jinbei’s body began to shake, emitting a faint golden light.

Quickly trying to soothe the situation, Chen Feng reassured, “Don’t worry. It’s good to have a little brother or sister. Your big brothers and sisters will always love and care for you.”

Upon hearing this, Jinbei calmed down.

The Golden Swallow chirped, “Jinbei is a sister; I can sense it. It’s hatching very quickly. Without Mommy’s big belly and the little brothers and sisters inside, who knows how long it would take to hatch.”

Chen Feng chuckled, “So, am I truly fulfilling the role of Bei’s mommy?”

The Golden Swallow chirped, “Of course, you’ve done a remarkable job, and Jinbei appreciates you.”

As Golden Swallow finished speaking, Chen Feng suddenly felt a sharp, intense pain in her belly, making it hard for her to catch her breath.

She exclaimed, “Oh no, I might be going into labor.”

After saying this, she managed to arrange her clothes, exited her inner space, and, leaning on a table, began to groan loudly, all the while taking a bite of the green swallow’s nest from her handkerchief.

Upon hearing the noises, people outside rushed in. The midwife reassured her, “Madam, don’t panic. It’s the beginning of labor, but it’s still early.”

One of the rooms in the east wing had already been prepared, and Chen Feng was assisted there by Mama Li. She would lie down during the painful moments and walk around when the pain subsided.

As night fell, the pain intensified.

Chen Feng had never imagined childbirth to be this painful and time-consuming, feeling as though she had lived two lifetimes in one.

Starting with labor pains from the 29th hour of the day until the evening of the following day, her cervix only dilated to four fingers by the night. By the next morning, it had reached ten fingers, but due to the incorrect fetal position, delivery was still not possible. Feeling like she was nearing death, she would drift in and out of consciousness – hearing the cries of children outside the window, particularly Dabao’s piercing cries, “Mother, Mother, if you’re in pain, just stop giving birth… Waaah… I don’t want a little brother or sister…”

She also heard the crying of Chu Hanyan and Li Xuan, though their words were indistinct.

As the children’s cries subsided, Mrs. Wang and the other women’s cries became audible. Amidst all this weeping, Chu Lingxuan’s calls were a constant presence.

“Feng, you have to hang in there…”

“Feng, you have to give birth well, we’re waiting outside for you…”

“Feng, if you’re gone, what will I do? What about the children…”

Later, Chu Lingxuan’s calls turned into sobs, and Chen Shiying’s cries could also be heard.

After a brief rest, Chen Feng felt another intense wave of pain. Within moments, the second child was born, and she drifted into unconsciousness.

The cries of the second child were robust, and the midwife exclaimed, “Congratulations, it’s another boy, a big, healthy lad.”

Upon hearing that both children were born successfully, with the first weighing five pounds and four ounces and the second five pounds and one ounce, there was another round of cheers from the onlookers.

Chen Shiying and Mrs. Wang burst into tears again, this time out of joy.

In the main hall, brightly lit, Chu Lingxuan, Mrs. Wang, Chen Shiying, and Chen Ming, along with others, had been waiting. Initially, Madam Jiang and the old Marquis Chu had been there too. Madam Jiang had returned home the previous evening, while the old Marquis Chu had been convinced to leave at midnight.

Chu Lingxuan had been kept outside and not allowed into the delivery room. Hearing no sound from Chen Feng, he grew anxious, “What about Feng? How is she?”

Mama Li emerged and smiled, “Sir, don’t worry, Madam has fallen asleep.”

As it was late and dew was heavy, they didn’t dare bring the children out for a look. Knowing they were safe and sound, with their daughter having given birth to two healthy boys, Chen Shiying and Chen Ming were overjoyed. Although they regretted not seeing their grandsons immediately, they were relieved and went to rest in the outer courtyard.

Chu Lingxuan sent someone to inform the old Marquis Chu and Madam Jiang.

Once the midwife had tidied up Chen Feng and moved her to another room, Chu Lingxuan and Mrs. Wang hurried in.

When Chen Feng woke up, it was already midday, and she was famished. She had been brought back to the bedroom, where a small bed was placed beside the large one.

Mrs. Wang was playing with one of the boys, and upon seeing Chen Feng awake, she said, “Awake? My dear, you’ve found yourself a good husband, he’s been by your side and just went to the west wing. The old Marquis Chu, your father, and the other gentleman are all in the west wing…”

Chen Feng smiled and said, “Mother, let me see the children…”
