Yu Yao came back from the neighborhood supermarket and was surprised to find the door to her house wide open. Carrying the fresh fruit she had just bought, she walked in and saw a young girl sitting on the sofa, looking about her age.
Seeing Yu Yao enter, the girl looked up with some surprise. After noticing the fruit in Yu Yao’s hands, she seemed to misunderstand the situation, stood up with a smile, and said, “Are you here to see Professor Jiang? He’s a bit tied up right now. Please have a seat over here.”
Yu Yao raised an eyebrow, and the girl, with great enthusiasm, asked, “Are you Professor Jiang’s neighbor or a student? You must be a student, right? Also from Hai University? I don’t think I’ve seen you before. Let me help you with the fruit; I’ll put it in the fresh food cabinet in the kitchen. Please sit and wait; I’ll get you a glass of water.”
Yu Yao: … Why does this girl seem to act like the owner of the house?
Yu Yao handed over the fruit casually without saying much and went straight to the sofa. She opened up the game she had saved from yesterday and began to complete her tasks in the game “Desolate Planet.”
The girl brought a glass of water over and saw Yu Yao casually using Professor Jiang’s TV screen to play the game. She was a bit displeased, thinking Yu Yao was being quite rude.
“Isn’t it a bit inappropriate to just use Professor Jiang’s TV screen for games?” Even though Professor Jiang was usually very good-natured, playing games at his place wasn’t quite right. The girl glanced at the screen displaying the game, surprised to see that Professor Jiang’s TV was set up with games.
Noticing the girl’s furrowed brow, Yu Yao asked, “What’s Professor Jiang doing?”
The girl looked at her with some confusion, unsure of Yu Yao’s identity, and answered briefly, “I’m here to pick up some documents for my teacher, and Professor Jiang went to get them for me. You… are you really Professor Jiang’s student?”
Yu Yao honestly shook her head, “No.”
The girl was surprised, “Then who are you?” Seeing how familiar Yu Yao was with the house and the fruit she was carrying, she had thought Yu Yao was a student visiting Professor Jiang.
Just as Yu Yao was about to answer, Jiang Zhonglin came out of the study. Yu Yao turned to him and said, “I bought some fresh strawberries and put them in the fresh food cabinet.”
Their tastes were a bit different, but both loved strawberries the most. When they were together before, they often bought strawberries to enjoy together. Today, when Yu Yao found strawberries, she realized how many off-season fruits were now available—one of the better things about traveling through time. At least in the future, she wouldn’t face the frustration of craving something that was out of season and unavailable.
Yu Yao suddenly remembered something a bit embarrassing.
Not long after she married Jiang Zhonglin, as newlyweds, they were inevitably close. One night, after they had been intimate, she lay on the bed with her arms and legs splayed out and looked at a faint red mark on her thigh. She suddenly had a strong craving for strawberries. Sometimes, when you really want something, the more you think about it, the harder it is to resist. With one leg draped over Jiang Zhonglin, she suddenly kicked him with her foot.
