From Ancient to Modern: The Legitimate Daughter Reborn into the 1950s Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Doing Bad Things

When Li Xiangbei returned home, it was already dark.

In the main hall, only Zhang Cuijuan and the couple Li Jianguo were left.

Seeing her youngest son back, Zhang Cuijuan quickly asked, “Xiangbei, how’s it going with Xiao Su?”

Li Xiangbei remained silent and walked straight toward the kitchen.

Zhang Cuijuan hurried after him, muttering, “I’m talking to you, Xiangbei. Is Xiao Su upset with you?”

Li Xiangbei stopped and looked at Zhang Cuijuan with helplessness and grievance on his face.

“Mom, what does it mean to be a family? I’m already twenty. But my sister-in-law deliberately messed up my marriage because she wanted money to buy a job. Mom, with Yueyue’s qualities, finding a good family wouldn’t be difficult, right? But if I miss Yueyue, what kind of wife can I find? Is this family planning to make me a lifelong bachelor?”

Zhang Cuijuan opened her mouth but sighed helplessly. “Xiangbei, you need to have a good talk with Xiao Su. You’re not going to spend your whole life with your sister-in-law.”

Li Xiangbei sneered slightly. After fetching a bucket of water, he strode to Li Xiangdong’s room, kicked open the door abruptly, and poured the entire bucket on Li Xiangdong, who was lying on the bed.

Suddenly, Liu Lanxiang’s sharp scream rang out: “Li Xiangbei, are you crazy?!”

Li Xiangbei slammed the bucket against the floor and shouted, “I’ll say it again, if you all make my life miserable, then none of us will live well.” Then he glared fiercely at Li Xiangdong and his wife and stormed out.

Li Xiaoxue and Li Weibing cried loudly in fear.

Zhang Cuijuan and Li Jianguo rushed over and, seeing the mess in the room, Zhang Cuijuan lamented, “What kind of sins have been done!”

Li Xiangdong angrily said, “Dad, Mom, can’t you control the little brother? Letting him run wild like this?”

Li Jianguo frowned and scolded, “Enough noise! We have work tomorrow. If you don’t sleep, the neighbors can’t sleep either. Hurry up and clean this mess.”

Meanwhile, Su Yue took out a flashlight from Youlan Courtyard and checked the time—it was 1:30 a.m.

She quickly entered the courtyard, changed into prepared black night clothes, stretched a little, and returned to her dorm.

She jumped out the window, tapped lightly on the wall, and landed on the ground.

Then she dashed toward the Steel Factory family housing area.

Because she was weak and malnourished as a child, Su Yue could not practice martial arts normally.

Her stepmother, to spite her, sent martial arts manuals to Youlan Courtyard every month.

Locked inside the courtyard and unable to leave, she passed time reading those manuals and gradually learned the characteristics of various martial arts moves.

Now that her health was better, she secretly started training from age three to make up for lost time.

Soon, Su Yue arrived at the west side of the Steel Factory, where many two-story houses with private courtyards were located.

She didn’t know exactly where Deputy Director Qin lived and could only search house by house.

She jumped into the courtyard at the far edge, and seeing an open window on the second floor, used the wall to leap up and reached the window.

Carefully, she peeked inside.

It was a bedroom, with two people lying on the bed.

Su Yue climbed inside and looked closely—it was Deputy Director Qin lying there.

Su Yue’s lips curled into a smile as she took out a stick of incense from Youlan Courtyard and lit it.

After a while, she deliberately made some subtle noise. Seeing that the two people on the bed showed no reaction, she quietly opened the door and slipped out.

After some investigation, Su Yue discovered that seven people lived in this building, including Qin Mingyue.

Having knocked everyone out with the incense, Su Yue took all their belongings to Youlan Courtyard—nothing was left behind except the bathroom and the blankets covering the people.

She also found a safe hidden beneath the floorboards in the study room.

Before leaving, Su Yue even took the cars parked in the courtyard and moved them to Youlan Courtyard.

Just as she was about to return to sleep, she suddenly decided to check on Li Xiangbei and headed toward the Ling family’s home.

Peeking over the wall of the Ling family’s backyard, she unexpectedly saw Li Xiangbei doing something mischievous.

She saw Li Xiangbei wearing a demon mask, standing by the window, shining a flashlight on his face, and whispering low and clearly: “Ling… Xiang… Dong, Liu… Lan… Xiang.”

Soon, two sharp screams came from inside the house. Li Xiangbei immediately turned off the flashlight, threw something into the room, and quickly ran toward the window of the next room, climbing in.

The noise inside grew louder and more chaotic. Neighbors nearby were disturbed by the screams and became alert.

Su Yue quickly slipped away, barely able to hold back her laughter. Back at the dormitory, after entering Youlan Courtyard, she laughed out loud twice.

After this event, Su Yue was wide awake, so she started organizing the items she had taken into Youlan Courtyard.

Recalling the last time, she brought so many things into Youlan Courtyard was many years ago.

At that time, feeling sorry for the people suffering from famine, she negotiated with the local black-market leader to sell grain at a low price, requiring it to be sold at the official supply and marketing cooperative price.

The black-market leader praised her lavishly but, after receiving the grain, wanted to get it for free and even demanded more.

Su Yue couldn’t tolerate this and knocked out the entire group, leaving them outside the police station’s door. She also emptied their warehouse and took everything from the black-market leader’s home.

Now, she had already sharpened an axe. Living in the city cost money, and firewood needed to be purchased. With the furniture she took from the Qin family, she wouldn’t need to worry about firewood for a while.

She took the axe and started chopping at Qin Vice Director’s bed.

After several chops, she heard a “crack” and the bedboards split open, revealing rows of small gold bars hidden inside.

Wow, no wonder Qin Vice Director acted so arrogantly, sleeping on piles of gold every day.

Su Yue brought a sack over and squatted down, packing the gold bars inside.
When tidying the bedside cabinet, she also found rolls of large bills.

This made her even more curious about the safe beneath the floorboards. Money and gold were hidden on the bed; what rare treasures could be in the safe?
She sat in front of the safe, which required a key to open. After searching through all the boxes, she found lots of money, documents, some jewelry, and even household registration and grain ration books, but no key for the safe.

Checking her watch, it was already one o’clock—the usual time for daily exercise.

She picked up a long knife and started hacking at the safe. Sparks flew, the blade flashing.

After a full hour, the safe was completely deformed from her chopping.

Then she fetched two buckets of water from the well to the kitchen, boiled a large pot of hot water, and took a thorough bath.

After changing into clean clothes, she left Youlan Courtyard, taking her washbasin and toothbrush to the washroom.
