Lianzhi first went to see Mrs. Luo, and Wei Wushuang was also there with Mrs. Luo. They both appeared gloomy and desolate.

Although Mrs. Luo maintained the demeanor of a noblewoman, her visibly haggard complexion betrayed her fatigue. Seeing Lianzhi, she expressed regret, “Wuyou, now that Wei family is no more, it happened just as you were about to get married. Lianzhi was about to speak words of comfort when Wei Wushuang interjected, “Mother, how can you say that? A family should share both honor and disgrace.”

“But when our family was in glory, Wuyou didn’t get to enjoy it,” Mrs. Luo said.

Wei Wushuang fell silent.

Approaching them, Lianzhi said, “It’s okay, Mother, I don’t mind.”

Mrs. Luo worriedly remarked, “I don’t know if this will affect your marriage to the Chen family. I hope the Chen family is trustworthy.”

Lianzhi remained optimistic, “I was worried that Chen Gongzi only wanted to marry me because I was the daughter of Wei family. Now, I don’t have to worry. If he’s willing, he’s willing; if not, so be it.”

Mrs. Luo smiled faintly, feeling comforted by Lianzhi’s unaffected demeanor.

Even Wei Wushuang looked surprised at Lianzhi. Her younger sister, who had grown up outside, was unexpectedly open-minded. Wei Wushuang felt a sense of shock. Upon hearing her father mention Aunt, Wei Wushuang blushed slightly.

The Emperor had not explicitly mentioned this matter, and now, apart from the father and daughter, even the mother was unaware. Her father had kept it a secret, and she had no intention of revealing it.

Mrs. Luo hesitated but after a moment of contemplation, she firmly intervened, “Wuyou and the Empress have a casual acquaintance at best. Even if the Empress has the ability, she wouldn’t intervene for Wuyou.”

“You should think  another solution!”

Mrs. Luo, still worried, asked, “What exactly happened to make the Emperor so furious? It seems the root of the problem needs to be addressed.”

Upon hearing Mrs. Luo’s inquiry, he, infuriated, remained silent and left in a huff.

Seeing her husband reaction, Mrs. Luo turned to her daughter and asked, “Wushuang, when you were in the palace that day, did you hear anything at all?”

Wei Wushuang, trying to remain composed, shook her head, and Mrs. Luo refrained from pressing further.

Lianzhi noticed that although Mrs. Luo had just been in a better mood, her brows furrowed involuntarily again. No matter how she tried to cheer her up, Mrs. Luo couldn’t relax.

Lianzhi sighed inwardly, feeling conflicted.

She was reluctant to go to the palace to plead for Yuwan mercy. How could she intervene in such matters? It would only burden her.

The couple exchanged a glance, and Mr. Chen said, “In that case, let the marriage proceed as planned.”
