After dealing with the Wei family, the Emperor’s mood was slightly low for a few days. These days, Shu Yuwan accompanied him daily. Thinking that she was still pregnant, with two more children and palace affairs to worry about, the Emperor no longer dwelled on the past.

“Yuwan, you don’t need to come every day. I’m almost back to normal.”

Seeing that the Emperor was indeed much stronger in both spirit and body than before, Shu Yuwan also felt relieved. Being in the early stages of pregnancy, she needed to worry less and rest more.

She nodded, “Alright, I won’t come tomorrow.”

The Emperor gently said, “After handling state affairs tomorrow, I will come to home to see you and the children.”

Seeing this, Shu Yuwan returned to home early and like her previous pregnancies, where she had poor appetite and felt weak, she was now starting to vomit in the morning, feeling truly exhausted.

Doctor Chen came on time to check Shu Yuwan’ pulse, “Your Highness, during this period, you have been working hard and feeling fatigued, hence the stronger reactions.”

Shu Yuwan asked, “Is the child alright?”

“Your Highness, rest assured, the fetus is stable. Try to stay cheerful, avoid stress, and don’t tire yourself out.”

Shu Yuwan nodded, “I understand.”

After giving some detailed instructions, Doctor Chen left. Once he was gone, Qing Dai worriedly said, “Your Highness, should we invite Nanny Qin into the palace to take care of you?”

Upon hearing this, Shu Yuwan nodded, “Send someone to the mansion to inquire. Nanny Qin is getting older. If she is willing, invite her into the palace. If not, let it go. Don’t force her.”

Nanny Qin was a midwife from the Shu family, very skilled in caring for pregnant women. She had taken care of both young mistresses of the Shu family and Shu Yuwan during her previous pregnancies. However, as Nanny Qin was getting older, she wanted to return to the Shu family to be with her children and grandchildren. Shortly after Shu Yuwan gave birth to her eldest son, she sent Nanny Qin back to the Shu family.

Now that Shu Yuwan was not feeling well during this pregnancy, Qing Dai thought of inviting Nanny Qin back.

She believed that Nanny Qin would agree. Although she did not want to stay in the palace for long, coming for a year to serve the Empress would benefit her children and grandchildren in the future.

As expected, Nanny Qin readily agreed.

With this, the Shu family also learned of Shu Yuwan’ pregnancy news once again. Mrs. Shu was overjoyed, “Great, great.”

Although they already had a son, more children meant more blessings. Yimei respectfully said, “Madam, the Highness mentioned that it’s still early in the pregnancy and should not be revealed yet. Apart from those in Her Highness’s palace and the imperial physician, no one else in the palace knows.”

Mrs. Shu nodded, “I understand. We should wait until the pregnancy is stable to set your mind at ease.”

Yimei quickly responded. Although she was a senior palace maid by the Empress’s side now, and had a prestigious position in the palace, she still needed to be respectful and cautious in the Shu family.

After discussing with Mrs. Shu, Yimei carefully inquired about Shu Yuwan’ situation in the palace. Once everything was settled, Mrs. Shu asked Yimei about Shu Yuwan’ condition in the palace. Yimei then took her leave and returned to the palace. Nanny Qin tidied up and prepared to accompany Mrs. Shu to the palace the next day.

Back in the palace, Qing Dai informed Yimei that Shu Yuwan was awake. Yimei quickly went in to report the situation in detail. Shu Yuwan said, “In that case, please thank Nanny Qin for her hard work.”

Yimei smiled, “Madam immediately arranged for Nanny Qin’s grandson to manage the shop in the mansion. Nanny Qin was very willing.”

Shu Yuwan smiled faintly. Her mother always handled things prudently.

The next day, Mrs. Shu visited the palace.

Shu Yuwan knew her mother was coming today and had been looking forward to it. She had the kitchen prepare her mother’s favorite date paste cakes. It had been a while since she had seen her mother. Even though she was highly regarded by the Emperor, she still had to abide by the rules of the palace.

Mrs. Shu  paid her respects to Shu Yuwan according to the rules, “Greetings, Empress.”

Shu Yuwan quickly helped her up, “Please rise. In my own palace, there’s no need for such formality.”

Mrs. Shu scolded, “Respect should not be neglected.”

Nanny Qin followed suit and respectfully greeted, “Greetings, Empress.”

Shu Yuwan gently said, “Nanny Qin, you’re working hard again!”

Nanny Qin respectfully smiled, “Being able to serve the Empress is my blessing.”

Having been taken care of by Nanny Qin for two pregnancies, Shu Yuwan and Nanny Qin were already quite familiar. After exchanging a few pleasantries, Yimei led her to the side hall to settle in.

Shu Yuwan then conversed with her mother, Mrs. Shu.

Mrs. Shu asked, “Yimei mentioned that you haven’t been very comfortable during this pregnancy.”

“It’s not too bad. The physician said I’ve just been tired recently. Resting more should help.”

Thinking back to some rumors she had heard recently, Mrs. Shu asked, “There are rumors outside that during the Emperor’s injury, you were handling state affairs?”

Seeing Mrs. Shu’s evident disapproval, Shu Yuwan replied, “Not exactly. I just helped the Emperor organize some documents, stayed in the palace and assisted the Emperor.”

Mrs. Shu nodded, and with a serious tone, she said, “If you intervene too much, although you and the Emperor have a good relationship now, if anything changes in the future, it could lead to the Emperor’s suspicion.”

“Properly raising the Emperor’s eldest son is the right thing to do.”
