From Fiancée to Slum : A Tale of Loss Chapter 10

Chapter 10 : Two-timing

Under Jiang Ting’s angry gaze, Jiang Yu calmly walked out of his house and set out on the road to the city.

As soon as Jiang Yu left, Jiang Ting found Jiang Hao and asked angrily, “You just let Jiang Yu go like this?”

Jiang Hao’s face was full of annoyance

In fact, he felt that if Jiang Yu could really get the three hundred yuan back for him, it would actually be not bad.

Jiang Ting sneered and laughed at his stupidity.

“Why would your aunt give you three hundred? If she really loves Jiang Yu, why doesn’t she give her the job and let her live in the city?”

Jiang Hao’s face froze, but he felt a little relieved.

“But she told our parents…”

Jiang Ting pouted, “She is the most cunning! She has been fooling our parents like this since we was a child. But think about it, she has always been the one taking advantage. When have we ever taken advantage of her?”

Jiang Yu never suffers any loss. She is not only lazy and greedy, but also particularly vindictive.

This time Jiang Hao wanted to marry her off in exchange for a wife, but he failed. However, Jiang Yu will definitely remember it.

“If you don’t marry her off this time, you’ll be revenged by her in the future!” Jiang Ting snorted coldly.

Jiang Hao felt uneasy, “No, with my parents here, she wouldn’t dare to do anything to me.”

Jiang Ting ignored him, but Jiang Hao felt more and more uneasy, so he turned to look for Du Juan.

When Du Juan heard that Jiang Yu went to the city to get money for the betrothal gift, she almost slapped him.

idiot!

The reason why the Du family asked for such a high bride price was for the purpose of exchanging brides.

“Jiang Yu has gone to the city, what should my second uncle do?”

Jiang Hao was stunned. “Uncle…but didn’t you say before that you would only marry if you couldn’t afford the betrothal gift? Now my eldest sister has gone to get money for me. When she comes back, I will have the betrothal gift.”

Du Juan was very angry and glared at him unhappily.

“My grandfather has changed his mind again. Your sister must be married to my second uncle, otherwise he will not agree to my marriage with you!”

Jiang Hao was confused. Why had he changed his words again?

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? My eldest sister has already gone to the city!”

Du Juan glared at him. “You need to bring her back quickly! My second uncle’s wife ran away. How am I supposed to explain this to my grandparents?”

She now seemed to regard Jiang Yu as a daughter-in-law of the Du family.

Jiang Yu had already boarded the bus to the city and was heading straight to find Yao Xiangling.

When Yao Xiangling saw her carrying luggage, she understood immediately. “Has the letter of introduction been issued?”

Jiang Yu smiled sweetly, looking vaguely pleased with herself. “It has been issued. I expect I’ll need to trouble my aunt here for two months.”

Yao Xiangling tapped her forehead and said, “It doesn’t have to be two months. You might find someone you like in just a few days, and getting married could happen quickly.”

Jiang Yu didn’t think so and felt a little discouraged. She still remembered what Yan Wenxuan’s mother had said last time.

Finding someone attractive and suitable is actually very difficult, and finding someone who feels the same way is even harder.

A handsome, three-dimensional face suddenly appeared in Jiang Yu’s mind, but her spirits dimmed.

With her conditions, not many people would be interested in her.

“What if I can’t find the right one?” Jiang Yu asked, feeling a bit distressed.

Yao Xiangling glared at her. “Have your parents found a partner for you?”

Jiang Yu had initially wanted to keep this from her, but she didn’t expect Yao Xiangling to be so perceptive. Reluctantly, she explained everything about the marriage exchange.

Yao Xiangling was truly furious and nearly threw the cup she was holding across the room.

“This isn’t a family, it’s clearly a family of vampires! If you can’t find someone suitable, just take over your aunt’s job and settle down in the city!”

Jiang Yu felt warmth in her heart, knowing her aunt truly cared for her.

“Aunt, I’ll take care of you in your old age, but I don’t want your job.”

Yao Xiangling is the director of the neighborhood office and earns a good salary, but if she handed the job over to Jiang Yu, she’d have to start from scratch as a clerk.

Jiang Yu didn’t think it was worth it.

Besides, she wasn’t interested in sitting in the street office dealing with all sorts of mundane matters all day.

Although Yao Xiangling was pleased to hear Jiang Yu’s words, she pretended not to care.

“I have a pension, I don’t need you to support me in my old age.”

Yao Xiangling had always been generous with Jiang Yu. She took out five dollars and stuffed it into Jiang Yu’s hand, telling her to go to the supply and marketing cooperative to get some egg cake.

She pulled out another stack of candy, pastry, and biscuit tickets, stuffing them all into Jiang Yu’s pocket.

“Buy whatever you want to eat. I doesn’t like these, and we don’t have these snacks at home.”

Yao Xiangling has been conscious of her appearance since she was young. She eats lightly and rarely indulges in oily, heavy, or sweet foods.

At 55, she could easily pass for someone in their early 40s.

Jiang Yu didn’t bother being polite, she took the money and tickets and headed to the supply and marketing cooperative.

She loved visiting supply and marketing cooperatives and department stores, enjoying the sight of various goods passing by.

Just as Jiang Yu was about to ask the salesperson for half a pound of egg cake, she heard a voice from the side.

“Sun Zailiang!”

Hearing that familiar name, Jiang Yu instinctively looked up.

The woman who called out was a cute salesperson with a round face.

Soon, a man in blue overalls and a striped short-sleeved shirt rode up on a bicycle, a happy expression on his face as he walked towards the salesperson.

“Fei Fei! I just bought a silk scarf at the department store. Do you like it?”

Jiang Yu quickly averted her gaze, realizing that Comrade Sun Zailiang already had a partner.

She didn’t feel unhappy or disappointed.

Comrade Sun Zailiang might not be very tall and was a bit thin, but he had fair skin and looked very young.

She preferred taller, sturdier men for a greater sense of security.

For some reason, He Tingyue’s face popped into her mind again.

Jiang Yu covered her face and left the supply and marketing cooperative, trying not to dwell on it. That man was impossible!

In her distraction, she forgot to buy the egg cake and wandered until she found herself at the gate of the second factory.

It was time for workers to get off, and they poured out of Factory 2, chatting and laughing.

Jiang Yu saw Sun Zailiang again.

He was riding his bicycle, one foot on the ground.

A moment later, she noticed him waving at a female worker.

The woman was very pretty. As soon as she saw him, her face lit up, and she rushed over.

From a distance, Jiang Yu couldn’t hear their conversation but saw Sun Zailiang pull out another scarf, this one the same bright red!

The female worker took the scarf, blushing as she quickly kissed his cheek.

Jiang Yu’s eyes widened. This was in public, wasn’t he afraid of being seen?

Moreover, it was clear that Sun Zailiang had just been very close to the salesperson.

Then her eyes caught sight of He Tingyue.

He was tall and strong, even on a bicycle he looked impressive.

Jiang Yu’s expression darkened.

She had no right to involve herself with him.

“Brother Yue, wait for me! I’ll go back to the compound with you,” Sun Zailiang rode his bicycle and followed He Tingyue.

Yes, they were from the same compound.
