Chapter 100 : What kind of person is Jiang Yu?

Jiang Yu shot her a glance. “Watch your mouth.”

He Feiyan’s personality was indeed a bit frivolous.

Jiang Ye, however, looked puzzled, not understanding what “little puppy” meant.

He Feiyan met his clear, black-and-white eyes and felt a bit guilty, suddenly realizing she looked like a mischievous flirt.

“Don’t mind it, little brother. I didn’t mean anything by it.”

Jiang Ye paused for a moment. “If I remember correctly, I’m older than you.”

Why call him “little brother”?

He Feiyan replied, “Oh, in that case, I should be more mature than you. Calling you ‘little brother’ isn’t wrong.”

Jiang Ye “… Can it really be counted like that?”

Jiang Yu had just finished slicing the peaches when He Tingyue returned with the two children.

He Lilan saw the peaches and couldn’t resist her cravings, she put down her backpack and rushed to wash her hands.

“Sister-in-law, I’m done washing my hands!” She showed Jiang Yu her clean hands, sparkling with excitement.

Jiang Yu smiled with satisfaction. “Go ahead and eat.”

He Lilan immediately grabbed a piece, took a bite, and exclaimed, “It’s so fragrant and sweet!”

He Zhengdong took a glance and thought she was a flatterer.

He Tingyue patted his shoulder and said, “You have to wash your hands before eating.”

As a big man, he was rather rough, only thinking about providing good food and clothes for them, not having time to teach them manners, which led to the kids developing several bad habits.

Jiang Yu naturally fed He Tingyue a piece.

“Is it sweet?”

He Tingyue nodded. “Sweet. Have you eaten?”

“I have. Jiang Ye brought over a dozen.”

He Zhengdong kept munching on several pieces of peach, feeling unsatisfied, and grumbled, “If there are over a dozen, why isn’t there one for each of us? Why cut them up?”

Such stinginess.

Jiang Yu smiled. “Zhengdong is right.”

She picked out the largest piece for He Zhengdong and even gave him two.

“Go wash them yourself and then eat.”

He Zhengdong was overjoyed, he really got two of the biggest ones!

He immediately went to wash them and devoured them eagerly.

“This is how you eat peaches!” he exclaimed.

Jiang Yu ignored him and handed the plate to He Lilan.

“Take this to eat with your brother and sister. I’ll go cook with your brother.”

She brought the cured meats into the kitchen. “This is from Aunt Huang, let’s cut some to try today.”

The cured sausage looked beautiful and was spicy, just looking at it made her mouth water.

“Alright, you rest outside, and let Zhengdong come in to start the coal stove.”

Jiang Yu was pleased and called for He Zhengdong to come in to start the fire.

He Zhengdong had just finished eating two giant peaches and let out a satisfied burp.

“I’m full, I probably won’t be able to eat lunch,” he said, patting his belly.

Jiang Yu smiled slightly. “Then you’re going to miss out on the cured meat at noon.”

He Lilan’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Sister-in-law, are we having cured meat for lunch? There’s cured meat?”

Jiang Yu nodded, tapping her little nose. “Not only cured meat, but also sausages from Sichuan, and they’re spicy.”

He Lilan swallowed hard, looking like a little glutton.

“It must be delicious! It’s a pity my brother can’t eat anymore. But it’s fine, I’ll make sure to eat more and take his share too!”

Yay for having a sister-in-law!

He Zhengdon “… Should I thank you?”

He walked into the kitchen with a gloomy face, suspecting that Jiang Yu had deliberately given him such large peaches, but he had no evidence.

He Tingyue understood He Zhengdong’s feelings, the two kids had suffered before and lacked a sense of security. They were simply afraid that Jiang Yu might have ill intentions and would send them away.

He originally planned to talk to the kids privately, but since Jiang Yu could handle them, he decided to leave it for later.

“Jiang Yu!” It was Lin Donghua visiting.

Jiang Yu smiled. “Sister Lin, is there something you need?”

Lin Donghua felt a bit shy, especially since she had some previous conflicts with Jiang Yu.

“Jiang Yu, I wanted to ask if your coal stove is ready, I’d like to borrow a couple of pieces of coal.”

Borrowing coal was a normal thing, as not every household had firewood for the coal stove.

Without firewood, you could borrow some coal and place the coal balls on top to ignite.

“Sister Lin, please wait a moment, I’ll go check.”

Lin Donghua relaxed a bit. “Okay.”

Before long, Jiang Yu called her in to grab the fire tongs.

“Thanks, Jiang Yu.”

Jiang Yu smiled and waved her hand, handing her two peaches.

“Take these back to give to Grandpa Duan.”

Lin Donghua quickly declined. “Oh, I can’t accept these. It’s not right, your family has many kids. Keep them for yourselves.”

Jiang Yu had already stuffed them into her pockets. “Sister, go back and start the fire.”

Lin Donghua had no choice but to accept them and thanked her again.

She happily headed home with the two peaches. When Wen Yan saw her, she was taken aback.

“Did Jiang Yu give these to you?”

Lin Donghua nodded. “Mom, Jiang Yu specifically gave me two peaches, saying they’re for Grandpa to enjoy.”

Wen Yan came to her senses and murmured, “That child is quite nice.”

She must have remembered how Grandpa Duan helped her speak up yesterday.

Lin Donghua felt the same but was afraid to voice it in case Wen Yan felt uncomfortable.

Now that Wen Yan had said it, Lin Donghua felt there was no need to hide it.

“She really is nice. Yesterday, Aunt Xu said she would mistreat the children, but that’s not true. Jiang Yu clearly isn’t that kind of person.”

Jiang Yu was not only beautiful but also had a friendly demeanor, people like her wouldn’t have a hard life.

Just then, Duan Yuzhen entered and overheard this conversation.

“Big sister, what kind of person is Jiang Yu? Tell me about it.”

She started off with a questioning tone, making Wen Yan unhappy.

“How can you speak to your big sister like that? Yuzhen, we’ve spoiled you too much, no respect!”

Duan Yuzhen sneered coldly. “She clearly knows Jiang Yu caused me to lose my job, yet she praises Jiang Yu at home. Isn’t that intentionally trying to provoke me? I know she’s always found me annoying, just waiting for a chance to get rid of me!”

Lin Donghua was furious, tears welling up. “Yuzhen, how can you say such heartless things? You’re twenty-two now, what’s wrong with me hoping you find a partner? But when have I ever pushed you out? When you ask your brother for pocket money, when have I ever complained? Your brother just got two pounds of cotton, and I made clothes for Huzi with the rest, saving nothing for myself to make you a new cotton coat!”

She had done so much for Duan Yuzhen, yet it felt like it had all gone to waste!

“I can’t claim to be the best sister-in-law in the world, but I’ve treated you well enough! You always say Jiang Yu harmed you, which shows you’ve never realized your own mistakes. If you hadn’t done anything wrong, would anyone expose you?”

Duan Yuzhen was seething and wanted to retort, but Wen Yan stepped forward and slapped her.

“You’re where you are today because we all have faults! It’s not that we treated you poorly, but we’ve spoiled you too much, which is why you’ve become like this!”

Wen Yan felt heartbroken and helpless, not knowing how to change Duan Yuzhen’s attitude.

Duan Yuzhen covered her face and cried, “I knew you never liked me, just like my sister-in-law, wanting to get rid of me! Don’t worry, I’ll leave right now and never come back!”

With that, she stormed out.
