From Fiancée to Slum : A Tale of Loss Chapter 120

Chapter 120 : Your son is dead!

After delivering the chestnut cake, Jiang Ye didn’t linger outside and rode his bike straight home.

Before he reached Yulin Alley, he spotted Wang Meili.

Without thinking, he rode his bike directly in front of her, startling her greatly.

“Mom, what are you doing here?”

He and Wang Meili were very estranged, and most of the time, he couldn’t bring himself to call her “Mom.”

But with Wang Meili showing up here, he had a feeling it was definitely related to Jiang Yu.

Sure enough, Wang Meili scolded, “How can you say that! You and your older sister caught wild chickens from the mountain, and Jiang Hao is still in the hospital. Neither of you has even thought about visiting him!”

She had more harsh words bottled up inside but managed to hold them back.

Jiang Ye’s expression darkened. “There are no wild chickens, that was a hen that brother-in-law paid for to lay eggs.”

Jiang Ting was such a troublemaker!

Wang Meili was momentarily taken aback but still shouted with indignation, “What’s wrong with hens? Hens are even more nutritious! Jiang Hao is hurt like this, and as the elder sister, shouldn’t she go see him? What good is raising daughters if they don’t care about their family?”

Jiang Ye stayed silent for a moment, feeling some anger, but rationality told him not to confront Wang Meili directly.

If she really showed up, it wouldn’t be good for Jiang Yu.

After all, she was a mother; she could be unkind, but Jiang Yu couldn’t be unfilial.

“Mom, if you want that hen, how could my sister possibly refuse? Didn’t she bring back brown sugar and meat when she visited? Even today, when she went to pick chestnuts and persimmons, she mentioned wanting to bring some back for you and Dad. What about my second sister? She also went to pick some, did she bring you anything?”

Wang Meili was stunned, and her expression changed slightly.

That little brat actually came to the hospital empty-handed!

“But you caused such a scene today about taking that hen. How will my brother-in-law explain it? If my sister doesn’t complain, my brother-in-law will definitely be unhappy. If he gets upset and says my plans for school and work are off, what will I do?”

Wang Meili was taken aback. “He said he would arrange work for you?”

“He said he would help keep an eye out, but I have to wait until I graduate high school. I know you’re probably wondering why it’s not Jiang Hao. Who told me not to grow up beside you? I don’t blame you. But think about it: Jiang Hao and I are brothers. Once I have a job, won’t I help him out? Wouldn’t I still be filial to my own parents?”

Jiang Ye, usually taciturn, rarely spoke this much at once.

Once he started, Wang Meili was left dazed.

Jiang Ye’s concern showed his filial piety, what parent wouldn’t like a filial child?

“Mom, if you cause a scene today, my brother-in-law might get upset, and who knows what we’ll lose at home.”

Wang Meili felt a wave of regret “You’re right, I shouldn’t cause trouble!”

Jiang Ye nodded vigorously, then changed the subject “But I’m still curious who incited you to come here. This is clearly intended to stir up trouble between you and my brother-in-law! What good does that do her?”

Wang Meili pondered carefully over his words, that little Jiang Ting must not have had good intentions!

She almost got her killed!

“You don’t worry about it. I must go back and teach that little brat Jiang Ting a lesson!”

Jiang Ye looked surprised. “Second sister? Why would she do that? Is she jealous that the eldest sister married well and feels she got the short end of the stick marrying second brother-in-law, so she’s acting out?”

Wang Meili replied coldly, “Absolutely! But when she got married, she was the one clamoring to marry, who can she blame? Enough talk, I’ll head back now!”

Jiang Ye took out two yuan from his pocket. “Mom, this is pocket money my sister gave me for you to buy something to eat.”

Wang Meili felt a warm glow inside after all, blood ties are closer.

Not to mention before, but at this moment, Jiang Ye had surpassed Jiang Hao in her heart.

“You keep this money for yourself.”

Though she said this, she unceremoniously pocketed it.

Watching Wang Meili leave, Jiang Ye thought about how he had just acted all sweet and felt goosebumps rise.

He turned his bike around and headed back to the second factory.

“Uncle Wang, can you call my second brother-in-law?”

“Fu Xiangyang, right? Just wait a moment, I’ll call him.”

Soon, Fu Xiangyang came running out.

He was weak, and rushing out made his face even paler.

“Second brother-in-law, my mom is at the hospital shouting about wanting to beat up my second sister, you should go take a look!”

Fu Xiangyang was alarmed. “What happened? What did your second sister do?”

Jiang Ye looked troubled. “You’d better go see for yourself.”

With that, Jiang Ye rode his bike off in a hurry, leaving Fu Xiangyang staring at his back.

Fu Xiangyang hurriedly rode his bike to the hospital, panting heavily as he rushed to Jiang Hao’s ward.

Just as he reached for the doorknob, he heard Wang Meili’s furious shouting.

“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to, you’re just jealous your elder sister married well! Now that you see He Tingyue, you feel cheated and look down on Fu Xiangyang, right? But when the matchmaker came, weren’t you the one fighting to marry?”

“Your elder sister said nothing. You wanted to marry, and she didn’t fight you for it. Why are you targeting her now?”

“If we’re counting, you actually owe Jiang Yu. If you hadn’t fought for it, it would have been Jiang Yu marrying Fu Xiangyang today, and it wouldn’t have been your turn!”

Fu Xiangyang’s face flushed, and he felt a lump in his throat, suffocated with emotions.

He didn’t know if it was because Jiang Ting thought He Tingyue was better than him or if it was because he hadn’t married Jiang Yu.

Fu Xiangyang couldn’t contain his anger and kicked the door open.

“Jiang Ting! You… you…”

The mother-daughter pair arguing inside turned around in shock.

Without saying a word, Fu Xiangyang fainted from the shock.

Jiang Ting shouted for a doctor, and the ward descended into chaos.

While Fu Xiangyang was being treated, Jiang Ting asked Wang Meili to run to the courtyard and tell Lin Hongxia to bring money.

Wang Meili stubbornly refused, “You go yourself, I’ll keep an eye on him.”

“Mom, I can’t leave here! Could you please go to the second factory and just tell the guard to pass along a message?”

Wang Meili finally reluctantly agreed and ran to the second factory.

“Big Brother, please pass along a message to Fu Xiangyang’s family.”

Uncle Wang asked, “What message?”

Wang Meili replied impatiently, “Just tell them Fu Xiangyang has been driven to the hospital by his wife, he’s in a bad way!”

After saying this, she left without waiting, and Uncle Wang didn’t have time to ask for details.

He stood there for a while, thinking it was bad, and hurried to the security office.

On the way, he grabbed Tong Fang. “Are you from the same courtyard as Fu Xiangyang?”

“Yes, Uncle Wang, what’s up?”

Uncle Wang said anxiously, “Hurry back and tell his parents that Fu Xiangyang has been driven to the hospital by his wife!”

“Dead? He’s dead?” Tong Fang exclaimed.

Uncle Wang stamped his foot. “He’s dead, he’s at the hospital now. Hurry up and tell his mom to prepare for the funeral!”

Tong Fang hurriedly rode his bike back to the courtyard to deliver the message.

As soon as he reached the alley, he shouted, “Aunt Lin, your son is dead! Fu Xiangyang is dead!”
