Chapter 122 : I’m Sorry
It was no secret that Jiang Yu’s family was having chicken, everyone could smell it.
Lin Hongxia was worried about Fu Xiangyang, and since she couldn’t buy any meat, she ran over to the Duan family to borrow some.
But the Duan family hadn’t bought any meat today either, so there was nothing for her to borrow.
Xu Lihua reminded her from the side, “Isn’t there a ready-made chicken over at the south house? That big chicken should last two days, right?”
They had already cooked the chicken, saving Lin Hongxia from any more trouble.
Lin Hongxia hurried over. “Jiang Yu, can you lend me some chicken? Xiangyang is still in the hospital and needs it to recover.”
The people at the dining table exchanged glances, the chicken soup was already finished, so there was nothing left.
“Sorry, Aunt Lin, but we don’t have any meat left.”
Lin Hongxia asked, “Didn’t you kill a chicken today? Surely there’s some leftover?”
Jiang Yu replied, “Do you want the chicken feathers? That’s all that’s left.”
Lin Hongxia couldn’t believe it. “A big chicken, and you finished it all in one meal? Didn’t you save any for tomorrow?”
Jiang Yu was taken aback. “There are a lot of us, with just one chicken, that’s only a few pieces of meat per person, isn’t it?”
Lin Hongxia felt like she might spit blood. How much meat could one person eat? Just one piece would be good!
Once again, she confirmed in her heart that Jiang Yu was just a wasteful person!
“Xiao He, how can you let your wife live like this? You should say something!”
He Tingyue turned his head. “Say what? Oh, I get it. Aunt Lin wants me to compliment you. The chicken was delicious today, and the red date and chestnut cake was good too.”
He Lilan nodded vigorously. “Sister-in-law, it was really good!”
Especially the chestnut cake, she loved it!
Jiang Yu smiled and patted her head. “If you liked it, take a piece to school tomorrow to snack on after class.”
“Okay!”
Lin Hongxia knew the meat wasn’t from her family, so she had no right to be angry, but seeing that Jiang Yu’s family had eaten a whole chicken made her uncomfortable.
It felt as if they had taken food away from Fu Xiangyang.
“Then can you lend me a chicken?” Lin Hongxia set her sights on a few chickens in the coop.
Jiang Yu said, “Aunt Lin, don’t talk about borrowing, just buy it! I have this wild chicken, it’s a rooster, and I’ll sell it to you for one fifty a pound. How about that?”
Lin Hongxia’s expression changed immediately, she wasn’t willing to spend any money.
“I don’t need a whole chicken, just some meat for Xiangyang.”
Jiang Yu chuckled. “I’m not a butcher, Aunt Lin. You can’t expect me to kill a whole chicken just because you need a little meat!”
She didn’t really want to sell it anyway.
At that moment, if you wanted to buy meat, you might not even be able to find it outside.
Lin Hongxia ultimately couldn’t bear to spend money on an entire chicken, so she had to turn and leave.
After taking a shower that evening, Jiang Yu rubbed her hair and chatted with He Tingyue casually.
As they talked, she unconsciously fell asleep.
He Tingyue knew she was exhausted, so he gently patted her head and didn’t disturb her further.
Jiang Yu slept soundly until dawn.
Today, aside from taking Jiang Ye to school for registration, she had no other plans.
Jiang Ye did very well academically, and with He Tingyue smoothing things over beforehand, the school accepted him right away.
Paying the tuition took less than half a morning, and he would officially start classes next Monday.
However, Jiang Ye insisted on paying the tuition himself. Last time, Liu Zi had given him eighty for that snake, and he wanted to give half to Jiang Yu, but she firmly refused.
After that, Jiang Ye didn’t return to the big courtyard but went back to Nangha Village alone.
Jiang Yu spent the day at home sewing clothes.
At noon, he had He Tingyue bring back food from the cafeteria, confirming that the large pot meals were indeed unappetizing.
In the afternoon, Lin Hongxia returned home with a sickly Fu Xiangyang, grumbling, while Jiang Ting followed behind.
Xu Lihua was curious. “Jiang Ting, what did you do to make Xiangyang faint?”
Jiang Ting forced a smile. “Aunt Xu, this is our couple’s issue, no need for you to worry.”
Fu Xiangyang, supported by Lin Hongxia, wouldn’t even look at Jiang Ting, clearly feeling estranged.
Xu Lihua shook her head secretly, thinking Fu Xiangyang didn’t look well at all.
Once inside, Jiang Ting sat in front of Fu Xiangyang, crying.
“Xiangyang, I truly didn’t look down on you. Do you prefer to believe others instead of me? Our relationship isn’t good, how can we have children in the future?”
In her last life, she got pregnant just two months after marrying Lin Chenghui, who was an idiot.
What she didn’t realize was that her words struck directly at Fu Xiangyang’s sore spot.
“Get out! Just get out!”
Fu Xiangyang roared, and after he finished, he clutched his chest and began to cough violently.
Jiang Ting covered her face and ran out in tears.
But since marrying into the Fu family, she had hardly gone out, let alone made friends.
Running out of the courtyard, she found herself with nowhere to go.
Jiang Yu heard the commotion and peeked outside, expressionless as she withdrew her gaze.
At that moment, Zeng Chang returned.
Xu Lihua glanced at Sun’s mother and scoffed.
“Old Zeng, what’s the deal? Did you cancel the wedding?”
Jiang Yu was genuinely interested in this matter, perking up her ears to listen.
But instead of hearing Zeng Chang’s response, she heard Xu Lihua laughing loudly.
“Look at you, acting so cowardly. I bet you didn’t cancel the wedding, right? Weren’t you just saying you were wholeheartedly devoted to Ruan Xiuyu yesterday, and now you’re having second thoughts?”
Zeng Chang was infuriated. “What’s it to you! Xu Lihua, I’m warning you, stop harassing Xiuyu. If you don’t, I won’t let this go!”
Xu Lihua coldly snorted, looking gleefully at Sun’s mother.
“You see, he won’t even directly answer the question. I told you he’s unreliable.”
Zeng Chang hung his head in disappointment. “Xiuyu, I’m sorry. My marriage is set for the 20th of this month.”
Sun’s mother clenched her fists, a hint of sharpness flashing in her eyes.
It seemed that Zeng Chang’s fiancée was quite capable to have forced him to finalize the engagement.
“What are you saying? You’re getting married? I couldn’t be happier! What I said last time was sincere, I hope you have someone to take care of you.”
The kinder and more considerate she was, the more guilty Zeng Chang felt.
He immediately took money from his pocket, wanting to give it to her.
But Xu Lihua interrupted coolly, “You’re getting married, shouldn’t you keep some money for your wife? If you’re giving all your money to Ruan Xiuyu’s family, what’s the point of marrying? Shouldn’t your son and wife be struggling while someone else gets fat?”
As soon as she said this, Zeng Chang hesitated, pulling his hand back.
Compared to Jiang Li, he naturally favored Sun’s mother.
But if he were to have a son in the future, the son would surely come first.
Sun’s mother almost ground her teeth in frustration, wishing she could tear Xu Lihua’s mouth apart.
But she still had to be generous and considerate. “Old Xu is right, you should keep the money. You’ll need it for the banquet.”
Zeng Chang had no choice but to retract the money.
