Chapter 15 : Ask Them to See Each Other
Even though it was supposed to be a happy day for her, Jiang Ting couldn’t shake off her gloom.
By the time the guests were leaving, she was forcing a smile.
She had lost count of how many people had asked her whether Jiang Yu was married or not.
It seemed everyone was curious why the Fu family had chosen her instead of Jiang Yu.
Even Fu Xiangyang was distracted, after spending the day with him, Jiang Ting could tell what was on his mind.
That night, after washing up and getting into bed, Jiang Ting coldly snapped, “Stop thinking about it, it’s pointless to regret now, we’re already married!”
Fu Xiangyang was taken aback. “What are you talking about?”
Jiang Ting sneered, “You still want to hide it from me? You’re regretting why you went on a blind date with me and not Jiang Yu, aren’t you?”
Her words hit Fu Xiangyang hard, making him feel uncomfortable.
He simply lay back on the bed and closed his eyes. “You’re overthinking.”
Jiang Ting scoffed, “Overthinking? It’s clear you have a guilty conscience.”
“Are you done? It’s our first day of marriage, and you want to start a fight?” Fu Xiangyang snapped impatiently.
He was feeling irritable, even struggling to muster the interest for intimacy.
Jiang Ting felt a knot in her chest, she didn’t want to argue, but it was her wedding day, and she was furious because of Jiang Yu!
Even though Fu Xiangyang was now her husband, she still felt dissatisfied.
“I’m not done! Let me tell you, it’s not that I stole Jiang Yu’s marriage, this marriage was always meant to be mine.”
Seeing she was eager for a fight, Fu Xiangyang sat up.
“Then tell me, your sister isn’t married yet, how did it come to you being the one to go on the blind date?”
Jiang Ting’s eyes widened, she had hit the nail on the head, he was regretting it!
“She’s only a few minutes older than me. What’s the difference between her and me? Fu Xiangyang, you’re heartless! You’ve already slept with me, yet you’re still thinking about Jiang Yu!”
That night, everyone in the courtyard was awake, listening to their argument.
He Feiyan, eavesdropping, quietly returned to her room.
“Big Brother, I heard them arguing in the North Room. Xiangyang just got married, and they’re already fighting?”
He Tingyue shot her a warning glance. “Mind your own business.”
He Feiyan pouted, dissatisfied. “I heard them talking about the new sister-in-law’s sister and their relationship.”
“Shut your mouth!” He Tingyue scolded lightly.
He Feiyan didn’t dare say more, muttering a few words before heading back inside.
He Tingyue gazed out the window, the image of Jiang Yu’s delicate features flashing in his mind.
He thought to himself that her face really did attract attention.
…
After a night filled with frustration, Jiang Ting was up early only to face her mother-in-law and sister-in-law’s disdain for not making breakfast. She felt incredibly wronged.
She didn’t dare raise her voice at her mother-in-law, so she put on a smile and prepared breakfast.
Once she had appeased Lin Hongxia, she seized a moment to sneak out.
She bought a ticket and boarded a bus, heading back to the countryside.
After seeing Jiang Yu in front of so many people yesterday, Jiang Ting suddenly realized that with Jiang Yu’s looks, it wouldn’t be hard for her to marry someone from the city.
Feeling resentful, she absolutely couldn’t let Jiang Yu stay in the city!
Jiang Yu should be suffering in some corner, giving birth and raising children, becoming a tired old woman.
As soon as she got off the bus, she dashed toward Nanghe Village.
Now that she was married in the city, she had become quite the celebrity back home.
She passed several acquaintances along the way but ignored them.
“Ha! Just got married yesterday and back at her parents’ today. Was she chased back?”
“Looks pretty likely, Jiang Ting seems anxious.”
“Why wasn’t it Jiang Yu who got married? She’s way prettier than Jiang Ting.”
“…”
Jiang Ting didn’t have time to pay attention to what the villagers were saying as she rushed home.
“Mom! Mom!”
Wang Meili hurried out of the house, looking shocked. “What are you doing back? It’s not time for your return visit yet!”
Instead of answering her mother’s question, Jiang Ting asked, “Where’s Jiang Hao?”
Wang Meili curled her lip. “What else would he be doing except looking for Du Juan?”
Jiang Ting stamped her foot. “You need to find him right now.”
Wang Meili ignored her, always giving her trouble. “You should just go back to your in-laws. When you return, don’t go empty-handed. Bring back some meat, your brother is hungry.”
Jiang Ting was clearly annoyed. “I know! Just get Jiang Hao back here, I need to talk to him.”
Just then, Jiang Hao returned.
Jiang Ting hurriedly pulled him inside and closed the door to speak privately.
“Did Du Juan agree to your marriage?”
Jiang Hao shrugged her off, feeling frustrated. “No, she won’t even see me anymore. She says if my big sister doesn’t marry her second uncle, she won’t agree to marry me. But my sister has gone to the city, and our parents wouldn’t agree to switch partners.”
Jiang Ting cursed him for being useless but had to coax him instead. “When I return, you need to bring her second uncle. I’ll bring Jiang Yu back and have them meet. Then our parents can finalize the marriage.”
Jiang Hao was taken aback. “Is that even possible?”
Jiang Ting rolled her eyes. “What’s impossible about it? She’s your sister of course, she should help you with your marriage! Just listen to me, your brother-in-law’s factory needs temporary workers, and I’ll make sure you’re the first to know.”
Jiang Hao, charmed by her words, felt grateful that his second sister genuinely cared for him.
Jiang Ting had to rush back to the courtyard to cook, so she didn’t have time to say more and hurriedly left after giving Jiang Hao several reminders.
In the end, she returned late. By the time she got to the courtyard, Lin Hongxia had already prepared dinner.
Jiang Ting walked in nervously. “Mom.”
Lin Hongxia huffed coldly. “Where have you been?”
“I went back to my parents’ place.”
Lin Hongxia was even more displeased. “On your first day of marriage, you went back to your parents’? What do you mean by that? Do you think Xiangyang treats you poorly, and you’re going back to complain?”
“Of course not! Mom, Xiangyang treats me well. Marrying him is the greatest blessing I’ve earned in eight lifetimes. I went back to my parents’ not to complain but for some matters,” Jiang Ting quickly explained.
Lin Hongxia didn’t want to argue with her. “Hurry up and eat. After you finish, clean up the table!”
Jiang Ting finally breathed a sigh of relief, daring only to eat the vegetables, not even touching any fatty meat.
Lin Hongxia’s dissatisfaction grew as she observed Jiang Ting. “You went back to your parents’, and you didn’t even bring back any vegetables?”
Everyone wants to go to the city, not knowing it’s harder there.
They can’t grow crops, and even vegetables need to be bought, nearly splitting a dime in two to spend.
Jiang Ting returned from her parents’ place without even bringing back vegetables, showing how ungrateful she was.
Jiang Ting lowered her head. “I’ll tell my mom to prepare some for the return visit.”
Lin Hongxia snorted, falling silent.
After finishing dinner, Jiang Ting cleared the dishes and rushed out again.
This time, she was looking for Jiang Yu.
“Mom said that on the day of my return visit, you should come with me.”
Jiang Yu was confused. “Why should I go with you when you’re visiting your parents?”
Jiang Ting shouted angrily, “You haven’t been home for a few days. Do you really think you’re a city girl now, never planning to return? I’m just letting you know, whether you go or not is up to you.”
