Chapter 25 : Mom, what should I order?
Jiang Yu’s expression was hard to read. “I’m not trying to play favorites, you both are the same.”
She was stepping on both of them.
He Feiyan responded, “…Your attitude towards your employer isn’t very good, is it?”
Jiang Yu shot her a glance. “You should be more careful. You can’t just look at appearances when choosing a partner, you might end up getting fooled.”
He Feiyan clicked her tongue. “What else is there to look at? Don’t all men look like that? If they’re good-looking, at least they’re pleasant to the eyes.”
Jiang Yu looked at her. “Your brother is good-looking too. Don’t you think he’s better looking than him?”
He Feiyan looked at her as if she had discovered a new world, utterly shocked. “You have a crush on my brother?”
Jiang Yu’s cheeks flushed red as she playfully hit her. “Don’t say that!”
He Feiyan, having dated before, could easily tell why she was blushing. “I never expected anyone would think my brother is good-looking.”
Jiang Yu asked curiously, “Isn’t he good-looking?”
He Feiyan’s expression was complicated. “It’s not about his looks, don’t you think he looks intimidating?”
His imposing presence and tall, muscular frame often overshadowed his handsome face, causing many girls to overlook it.
Everyone seeks a partner to share life with, not someone who feels like a living demon king.
At twenty-seven, He Tingyue was still single, partly because he didn’t care and partly because of his looks.
Jiang Yu smirked. “He does look quite fierce.”
She didn’t say much more to He Feiyan and went home with the money.
As soon as she sat down, Yao Xiangling said to her, “I found a suitable match for you, do you want to meet him?”
Jiang Yu asked, “Who is it?”
“You should know him, it’s that Zhuang Yihang from our neighborhood committee.”
Yao Xiangling hadn’t initially planned on him. She thought he seemed a bit wishy-washy and not decisive enough.
But today, he had come to her, asking to meet Jiang Yu.
She wouldn’t push away a potential match that was brought to her door. After all, just because they met didn’t mean they had to date or get married.
Jiang Yu pictured Zhuang Yihang’s face, wearing black-framed glasses, looking quite gentle.
Since she didn’t mind, it would be good to meet.
“Aunt, let’s meet him then. When?”
Yao Xiangling replied, “I’ll talk to him tomorrow. Why don’t you two arrange to meet for dinner?”
Jiang Yu agreed.
The next day, as instructed by Yao Xiangling, she waited at the state-run restaurant.
After a short while, she saw He Tingyue and a few others.
He was accompanied by several people from the security department, which was normal since they were at a restaurant.
However, Jiang Yu felt a bit uneasy; after all, she had just caught him when he was trying to swindle Yan Wenxuan out of money yesterday.
Now, she was going on a blind date with another man.
Soon, Zhuang Yihang arrived.
He wasn’t alone, he had a middle-aged woman with him, and they walked in arm in arm, laughing together.
Jiang Yu felt it was a bit strange, even if they were mother and son, they seemed unusually close.
When Zhuang Yihang saw her, he smiled brightly.
“Comrade Jiang Yu, my dad is out, so I thought it would save my mom from cooking alone at home, so I brought her along. You don’t mind, do you?”
Jiang Yu shook her head. “Of course not, Aunt, please sit down.”
Zhao Qionghua secretly examined her, finding her looks and demeanor quite good, which explained why Zhuang Yihang had her in mind.
“Little Jiang, you sit too. You two can chat, don’t mind me, I’m just here for a meal.”
The first thing they did after sitting down was to order food.
Jiang Yu was waiting for him to ask her about her preferences, but surprisingly, Zhuang Yihang looked at Zhao Qionghua.
“Mom, what should I order?”
Zhao Qionghua smiled. “Order some braised pork, check if they have fish, steamed fish would be good, and get a couple of vegetable dishes. That should be enough.”
Zhuang Yihang nodded and got up to place the order.
After he returned and sat down, Jiang Yu could tell he was very nervous.
However, with Zhao Qionghua present, Jiang Yu couldn’t relax and find topics to discuss with him.
Before they could say a word, he turned to Zhao Qionghua again. “Mom, what should I talk about?”
Jiang Yu was speechless. No wonder he brought his mom along.
Zhao Qionghua laughed. “Ask her about her family situation, what she likes, what she dislikes, and introduce yourself. That’s basically how a blind date goes.”
Zhuang Yihang nodded, cleared his throat, and started introducing his family background to Jiang Yu.
He wasn’t an only child, he had two older sisters who were already married.
Since he was a later-born child, there was a significant age gap between him and his sisters, and he had even been fed by his eldest sister.
Jiang Yu covered her mouth and coughed lightly. That was unnecessary information, and she wasn’t very interested.
“Little Jiang, your family is in Nanghe Village?” Zhao Qionghua took the initiative to ask.
Jiang Yu nodded. “Yes, Aunt.”
Zhao Qionghua asked some basic questions about her family situation, showing dissatisfaction when she learned about Jiang Yu’s younger brother.
“So your family doesn’t expect you to help your brother, right?”
Jiang Yu smiled. “It’s not strange for siblings to help each other.”
This just showed the double standard in people’s nature.
Zhao Qionghua hoped her two daughters would help their younger brother but didn’t want Jiang Yu to assist her younger brother.
Everyone dislikes the “brother-sponsoring demon,” yet everyone wants to be the favored brother in such situations.
As the conversation continued, the waiter called their number, and it was their turn.
Zhao Qionghua quickly said, “It’s too hot, don’t touch it. Let me do it.”
She discreetly glanced at Jiang Yu, waiting for her to step in and take charge.
Jiang Yu was still shocked that Zhuang Yihang was sitting there doing nothing, completely missing her hint.
Zhao Qionghua pressed her lips together and had no choice but to serve the dishes herself, looking quite displeased.
When the dishes arrived, Jiang Yu was shocked to see an even more surprising scene.
“Xiaohang doesn’t like fatty meat, I always eat the fatty parts for him.”
Zhao Qionghua bit into the fatty meat and handed the lean pieces to Zhuang Yihang.
She patiently picked the bones out of the fish for him, and after he finished eating, she meticulously wiped his mouth and hands.
Every detail made it seem more like she was serving a young master.
“Little Jiang, why are you just sitting there? Eat! Our Xiaohang is an only child and has been spoiled since he was little, he can’t live without me as his mother. So after marriage, you two can’t move out, you don’t mind, do you?”
Jiang Yu smiled but didn’t speak. She didn’t mind living with her in-laws, but it depended on what kind of in-laws they were.
Zhao Qionghua continued, “Xiaohang is still young and a bit reckless, prone to spending money on a whim, so I manage his salary. It’ll be the same after you get married.”
Jiang Yu didn’t interfere with how Zhuang Yihang and his mother interacted, but she knew she couldn’t accept that kind of dynamic.
Anyway, after this meal, it was highly unlikely they would meet again.
As the meal drew to a close, Jiang Yu took the initiative to ask, “Comrade Zhuang, how much did this meal cost?”
Zhuang Yihang paused, looking at his mother with an unsure expression.
Zhao Qionghua understood immediately, Jiang Yu wasn’t after her son.
She immediately became angry. Who was this country bumpkin to look down on her son?
