Chapter 28 : Can I meet him?

Hearing about Zhang Xiyue’s family situation, Jiang Yu once again confirmed that the girl was a bit naive.

“So you need to keep your eyes open. If we’re going to marry someone from the city, it has to be a good match!”

Jiang Yu nodded vigorously, raising her teacup to toast with Yao Xiangling.

“Aunt, rest assured, if I marry, it will definitely be the best, and I will marry someone from the city!”

As Jiang Yu made this declaration, she didn’t notice the man behind her pause and glance her way upon hearing her words.

When he was ordering food, Jiang Yu heard a familiar voice and turned to take a look.

What a coincidence; she ran into him every time.

Yao Xiangling followed her gaze and spotted He Tingyue.

He Tingyue quickly bought a cold dish and left without pausing.

As he walked out, a mocking smile played on his lips.

A female scammer with lofty ambitions.

Yao Xiangling watched him disappear, while Jiang Yu, the silly girl, was still reluctant to look away.

But to be fair, Jiang Yu’s taste was indeed good.

“Do you like him?”

Jiang Yu snapped back to reality, her face turning red.

“Aunt, I don’t!”

Yao Xiangling shot her a knowing look. “What’s there to be shy about? Men can like women, why can’t we women like an outstanding man? He Tingyue is quite good. If you like him, it wouldn’t hurt to be a little proactive.”

Jiang Yu pouted. “I can’t, he’s too impressive.”

Yao Xiangling frowned at her self-deprecating attitude. “He’s impressive, but does that mean you’re not? Little Yu, looking good is a skill too. Look around, how many attractive people do you see on the street? If he marries you, he wouldn’t be losing out!”

Jiang Yu mainly worried about feeling unworthy and thought she didn’t match up to him.

But in Yao Xiangling’s eyes, whether someone was from the city or the countryside or whether they had a job didn’t really matter. Did she expect a woman to earn a living while raising a family all by herself? What did she need a man for, just for show?

“You’ve been in the city long enough and have seen a few men. You should know it’s not easy to find a decent man who meets your eye. Outstanding men won’t wait around for you.”

She felt Jiang Yu was being too reserved.

A bit too proud and thin-skinned.

But it was normal for a girl her age, so she decided to give her a push.

“If you can’t be proactive, I can ask Aunt Yao to come and say a few words, giving you both a chance to get to know each other. How does that sound?”

Jiang Yu’s eyes lit up with hope.

“Can Grandma Yao really say something?”

Yao Xiangling smiled. “That’s her job, what’s the problem? Just let her feel out the situation for you.”

Jiang Yu pictured He Tingyue’s defined features and bit her lip, secretly smiling.

Seeing this, Yao Xiangling shook her head inwardly, it was clear she was smitten, even while claiming she wasn’t interested.

She was clearly taken with him.

If such a marriage could work out, she would be at ease.

He Tingyue was capable and had the means to take care of Jiang Yu.

“You should be more alert. With your looks and figure, just give him a smile, and he wouldn’t be able to resist. He really is quite the catch.”

It was the first time Jiang Yu had seen her speak so highly of a man, and she felt a bit curious.

“Aunt, is he really that good?”

“Class leader level, I won’t even mention power. Let’s talk specifics. Do you know how much his salary is at that level?”

Jiang Yu shook her head. “I don’t know.”

“110 yuan! That’s just the basic salary, not including bonuses and benefits. He has three younger siblings, the eldest, He Feiyan, is graduating from vocational school next year and will be getting a job soon, so he won’t have to support her. The younger two are children of his former squad leader who were mistreated back home, so he brought them to live with him. Because they are the descendants of martyrs, the factory provides financial support.”

These were just the surface details one could gather.

These conditions alone are quite appealing.

“You know, among the female workers at the second factory, take Li Haiying, who is recognized as an outstanding worker every year. She gets first prize in bonuses each month, and her highest salary is only 65 yuan.”

Frontline female workers have the toughest and most exhausting jobs, typically working more while earning less.

Jiang Yu asked, “What about his parents?”

Yao Xiangling shook her head. “I don’t know that part. You’ll have to find out the rest for yourself.”

He Tingyue transferred to the security department of the second factory, arriving almost as if he had been dropped in from above. He brought his three younger siblings with him, but his parents were not mentioned.

Due to his high rank and being the guardian of two martyrs’ children, the house he was allocated was the best.

The three southern rooms formed a small, independent courtyard, the best in the entire compound, which many people envied.

Even before they got to know each other, Jiang Yu had already taken an interest in him.

Now that Yao Xiangling had laid it out this way, her heart was soaring.

“Aunt, can you tell Grandma Yao to see if I can meet him?”

Yao Xiangling nodded. “Just wait, it will definitely work out.”

The next day, Yao Xiangling went to discuss this matter with Matchmaker Yao.

Matchmaker Yao was quite surprised. “The Xiao He you’re talking about is Section Chief He?”

“Who else could possibly be worthy of Jiang Yu’s looks?”

Matchmaker Yao looked at Yao Xiangling’s confident demeanor and was momentarily at a loss for words.

Jiang Yu is beautiful, but can good looks alone ensure a good life?

He Tingyue had been single for many years because of his high standards and good circumstances; he wouldn’t have trouble finding a wife.

In comparison, Jiang Yu’s situation wasn’t as strong.

“We’ve known each other for many years. I’ll be frank with you, he may not agree.”

Yao Xiangling understood her concerns but wasn’t bothered by her straightforwardness. “Just talk to him. If he really doesn’t want to, I’ll find another way.”

Matchmaker Yao was taken aback. “Don’t be reckless, Section Chief He is not an ordinary person!”

“What are you thinking? I just want Jiang Yu to take the initiative. She won’t do anything inappropriate. With her personality, do you really think she could act out of line?” Yao Xiangling rolled her eyes.

Given the situation, Matchmaker Yao had no choice but to agree and help Jiang Yu pursue this match.

After leaving Yao Xiangling, she headed to the second factory to find someone.

Matchmaker Yao was quite well-known, and everyone in the area recognized her.

“Ma’am, who are you looking for?”

Matchmaker Yao smiled and said, “I’m looking for Section Chief He. Please call him for me. Once this is settled, you might even get a glass of wedding wine.”

The security guard hurried inside to find He Tingyue.

After some persuasion, he finally managed to coax him out.

Matchmaker Yao noticed a group of onlookers waiting to watch the scene and waved her hands dismissively. “Go away, stop eavesdropping. I’m not here for you!”
