Chapter 43 : I Have Conditions

Yao Xiangling didn’t feel much emotion after hearing that Jiang Yu was rejected, she was actually mentally prepared for it.

She simply said, “He rejected you not because you’re not good enough, but because you two aren’t meant to be together.”

Jiang Yu nodded. She could manage her feelings and wouldn’t doubt herself because of this rejection.

She still needed to stay strong for her family.

Jiang Hao was their lifeblood. If nothing unexpected happened, they would likely come again today.

“Aunt, you go to work. I’ll wait for my parents at home today.”

Yao Xiangling was momentarily taken aback. “Can you handle it by yourself?”

Jiang Yu nodded. “Yes, I can. It’s fine.”

She couldn’t always rely on Yao Xiangling to solve her problems, some things she had to face herself.

As soon as Yao Xiangling left, Wang Meili and Jiang Yonghua arrived.

Calculating the time, they had caught the first bus.

When Jiang Yu opened the door, Old Lady Ye slapped her hard, as if with a palm-leaf fan.

Fortunately, Jiang Yu was alert and managed to dodge, though her cheek was still scratched red by Old Lady Ye’s nails.

Jiang Yu immediately shouted, “If you dare touch me, Jiang Hao will never get out of prison!”

This startled Old Lady Ye, who didn’t dare to strike again.

However, her eyes seemed to want to tear Jiang Yu apart as she sneered coldly, “If I had known you were so heartless, I should have drowned you in a bucket of urine when you were born!”

Wang Meili turned around and shouted in dissatisfaction, “Mom, can you please say less?”

Even Jiang Yonghua lightly rebuked her, “What are you talking about? Jiang Hao is my son, and Jiang Yu is also my daughter. Don’t say such things again!”

Jiang Yu let them in, shutting out the neighbors who had been eavesdropping outside.

Wang Meili then pleaded, “Jiang Yu, Jiang Hao is your brother! He can’t go to jail! Since nothing has happened to you, just go to the police station and tell them to let your brother out!”

Jiang Yu looked at her coldly. “I just want to ask one question, do you know that the Du family kidnapped me?”

Wang Meili immediately denied it, “I don’t know! Your father and I had no idea. If we had, we definitely wouldn’t have agreed!”

She hadn’t expected that Jiang Hao and Jiang Ting could hide this from them and collude with the Du family.

It was true that she and Jiang Yonghua favored sons over daughters, and at Jiang Hao’s urging, she had considered an exchange marriage.

But after Jiang Yu mentioned last time that she had a boyfriend in the city, they abandoned the idea of an exchange marriage.

She had been bragging in Nanghe Village about soon having two sons-in-law from the city, hoping to eventually bring Jiang Hao to the city so the whole family could become city dwellers.

In addition, with Jiang Yonghua’s pressure on him, how could he dare to think of sending Jiang Yu to the Du family?

“Mom knows that it was Jiang Hao who let you down this time. When he comes out, I’ll beat him up and let you vent your anger.”

Jiang Yu believed Wang Meili and Jiang Yonghua’s attitude.

She did feel better, but that didn’t mean she could take the matter lightly.

Jiang Yu shed tears and smiled coldly.

“Beat him up? Beating him up will make me feel better? You know if no one rescued me that day, I would have been gang-raped by the Du family! Mom, you should be thankful that nothing happened to me, otherwise I would have hanged myself at the doorstep and let everyone see what kind of person Jiang Hao is!”

The coldness and determination on Jiang Yu’s face made Wang Meili feel cold in her heart.

But she didn’t dare to scold Jiang Yu and could only curse the Du family in her heart.

“Damn the Du family, you inhuman beasts. Mom and Dad will take people to smash the Du family to vent your anger! But Jiang Yu, your brother is your lifeblood. Your father and I only have this one son. If he goes to jail, we won’t even have anyone to smash the pot with after we die!”

Jiang Yonghua was always taciturn, but he couldn’t help but speak up at this moment “Jiang Yu, forgive him this time. And Jiang Ting, she is your twin sister, as a sister, please be tolerant and forgive them.”

He only has a few children, and the one he cares about the most is naturally Jiang Hao.

But it does not mean that he does not value his other daughters at all. He also hopes that these daughters can marry into good families and help Jiang Hao more.

Now, the relationship between Jiang Hao and Jiang Yu has completely fallen out.

Jiang Yu felt a chill in her heart. From the moment she entered the door until now, they only cared about Jiang Hao and never cared whether she was hurt.

Even friends would not be as cruel as them.

“If you want Jiang Hao to come out, then you can.” Jiang Yu turned his eyes away. If he couldn’t hold on to family affection, then he would just hold on to the money.

Wang Meili was overjoyed and subconsciously tried to grab her hand, but Jiang Yu dodged her.

“Mom, don’t be too happy too soon. I have a condition. I want three hundred yuan, and I will decide my future marriage by myself. This condition must be written down in black and white, and the captain will be the witness and sign your names.”

“Three hundred!” Wang Meili screamed and jumped up.

“How can our family afford three hundred? If we had this much money, we would have used it to help your brother find a wife! Jiang Yu, you will decide your marriage from now on, so we don’t need this money, okay?”

Old Lady Ye could no longer hold back and angrily cursed, “I told you what’s the point of raising a daughter! They can only suck blood, they are all heartless little bitches! You still want 300? Dream on!”

Jiang Yu ignored her and looked at Jiang Yonghua.

“More than 300? This is the condition for releasing Jiang Ting and Jiang Hao. Of course, we can’t let our family pay for it all. Jiang Ting isn’t even a member of the Jiang family, her husband’s family is from the city. Jiang Hao did these things because Du Juan instigated him. Can’t the Du family cover the costs?”

Jiang Yonghua’s expression relaxed slightly. After hearing what she said, he felt there was some truth to it.

But whether he could actually get the money was another matter. Even if he did manage to get it, it was impossible for him to just hand it over to Jiang Yu.

After much thought, he concluded that he couldn’t agree to this condition.

“Jiang Yu…”

“Dad, these are my conditions. Two conditions, both of which are non-negotiable. If you don’t want to meet them, let Jiang Hao go to the labor camp.” Jiang Yu’s expression was indifferent, as if Jiang Hao was not her biological brother, but a stranger.

Jiang Yonghua narrowed his eyes slightly and spoke in a firm tone “If your brother doesn’t come out, you won’t have a family to return to in the future! Are you really sure you want to sever ties with your parents over this three hundred yuan?”

Jiang Yu sneered, “I’m someone who nearly died, why should I care what my parents do? No matter how good they are, my life is more important. Dad, you haven’t experienced this, you don’t know how I felt when the Du family held me down and dragged me into the cornfield. You can say these things now because you think nothing happened to me. But if something really had happened, wouldn’t you have come to plead for Jiang Hao?”

As she said this, she fixed her gaze on Jiang Yonghua, and a single crystal-clear tear fell.

At that moment, Jiang Yonghua felt as if his heart had been punched hard, leaving a dull pain.

He quickly averted his gaze from Jiang Yu, clenched his fists tightly.

“Let’s go! We’re going home!”

Wang Meili hurriedly asked, “What about Jiang Hao?”

Jiang Yonghua firmly responded, “We’ll talk about it when we get home!”
