Chapter 53 : I Lost My Job
Huang Ying quickly came out, knowing that Xie Fei fei rarely came to her workplace unless there was something important.
As she stepped out, she happened to run into Duan Yuzhen.
Duan Yuzhen looked flustered, inwardly thinking that things were not going well.
Huang Ying frowned. “Yuzhen, why are you in such a panic?”
Duan Yuzhen turned her face away, unable to meet her gaze. “It’s nothing.”
Huang Ying gave her a look before walking outside.
Li Ling, feeling desperate, urged, “Yuzhen, hurry and find Editor Wen!”
Duan Yuzhen’s face darkened, her teeth clenched tightly.
This job wasn’t even something her uncle had helped her obtain.
Her uncle was very concerned about his reputation, there was no way he would help her cover up anything.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yu had already clarified the situation with just a few words.
Huang Ying looked at the newspaper in her hands, this section wasn’t under her jurisdiction, and she truly had no idea that someone had published an article under the pen name “Xiao Jiang.”
“I’ll go ask Editor Lan, this section is managed by her team.”
Editor Lan, who was Duan Yuzhen’s direct superior, was quite strict.
Huang Ying had never liked Duan Yuzhen. Initially, she thought she was talented, but after working with her, she realized she was completely incompetent.
Unfortunately, Duan Yuzhen was the editor-in-chief’s niece, making it difficult to reprimand her.
“Isn’t this Xiao Jiang actually Duan Yuzhen?” Editor Lan asked.
Huang Ying was surprised. “Of course not! Xiao Jiang is a friend of my daughter’s, she submitted a couple of stories to the newspaper before. Don’t you remember?”
“I do!” Those stories were personally reviewed by her, so how could she forget?
This was what surprised Editor Lan the most “Duan Yuzhen clearly listed her pen name and representative works on her application form. I still have that form!”
She had found it strange that someone with writing talent performed so poorly at the newspaper.
Editor Lan took out Duan Yuzhen’s application form to show Huang Ying.
Huang Ying’s expression changed immediately, and she scolded, “Ridiculous! Even if she is the editor-in-chief’s niece, there’s no reason for her to submit someone else’s application!”
Editor Lan’s expression shifted as well. “Huang Ying, what do you mean by this?”
“This application form was submitted by someone I recommended: Jiang Yu! Jiang Yu, as I mentioned before, is Xiao Jiang!”
Duan Yuzhen had clearly just copied Jiang Yu’s application.
Huang Ying sneered, “No wonder Jiang Yu didn’t even receive an admission ticket for the recruitment exam, they were afraid she’d get exposed!”
Editor Lan’s expression darkened, and she said seriously, “We need to find Editor Wen to hold a meeting about how to handle this.”
No matter what, Duan Yuzhen couldn’t stay.
Huang Ying and Editor Lan took Duan Yuzhen’s application form to the editor-in-chief’s office. Before they could enter, they heard a furious reprimand from inside.
“How could you do something like this? I thought you were genuinely talented and was looking forward to you bringing me face, now you’ve embarrassed me in front of everyone!”
The two outside exchanged glances. Whether or not the editor-in-chief truly didn’t know, his attitude was clear.
After scolding Duan Yuzhen, he ordered her to pack up and leave.
Then he called a meeting with the leadership of the newspaper, placing the blame on Li Ling.
Although Li Ling wasn’t fired, her salary was deducted, and she received a reprimand.
When discussing Jiang Yu, the editor-in-chief’s expression stiffened.
Logically, since Jiang Yu’s application and written exam answers had been replaced by Duan Yuzhen, Duan Yuzhen’s position should have belonged to Jiang Yu.
However, since Duan Yuzhen was the editor-in-chief’s niece, and because of this incident, he started to feel negatively towards Jiang Yu.
“Since the newspaper isn’t busy these days, we might as well not hire anyone for now.” His statement sounded like a request for opinions, but in reality, it was a final decision.
Other leaders nodded in agreement. “Then let’s not hire anyone.”
With everyone else in agreement, Huang Ying felt she couldn’t object any longer.
Ultimately, they decided to fire Duan Yuzhen, but Jiang Yu still couldn’t get into the newspaper.
This outcome left Xie Fei fei feeling quite indignant.
“Why should it be this way? That position was supposed to belong to Jiang Yu, that would be fair.”
Huang Ying laughed at her naivety. “Where’s the fairness in that? Who told you Duan Yuzhen’s uncle is the editor-in-chief? If he were even a bit biased, he could easily cover this up. Even if he didn’t fire Duan Yuzhen, no one would dare say anything.”
Society itself is a big cesspool, they had protected Xie Fei fei too well, making her somewhat naive.
But Jiang Yu was different, she was used to fighting alone, and these experiences would only benefit her.
Jiang Yu understood this, so she wasn’t too disappointed.
She even consoled Xie Fei fei, “Don’t be upset, connections are also a form of strength.”
Without a backer, she naturally had to work harder.
Huang Ying felt relieved. “Fei fei, your mindset isn’t as good as Jiang Yu’s.”
Xie Fei fei pouted, feeling that it was unfair for Jiang Yu, a great opportunity, to be ruined by Duan Yuzhen.
She turned to tell He Feiyan about the situation, finding her equally furious, finally feeling some resonance.
The two of them gathered together to criticize Duan Yuzhen harshly.
He Feiyan had never liked Duan Yuzhen, and now she was even more convinced that her instincts were right, she didn’t want to befriend someone with bad intentions.
“I’m going back now to expose Duan Yuzhen’s true nature to everyone in the courtyard.”
With He Tingyue backing her, she wasn’t afraid of offending anyone.
As He Feiyan walked into the courtyard, she saw Duan Yuzhen slapping Jiang Ting in the face.
She couldn’t find Jiang Yu, so she could only vent her anger on Jiang Ting.
“You two sisters are both bitches, none of you are good people! You ruined my job, I will never forgive you!”
When Duan Yuzhen’s mother Wen Yan heard this, she hurried out of the house.
“Yuzhen, what happened to your work?”
When she saw her family, Duan Yuzhen couldn’t hold back the tears that she had been holding back for a long time, and she threw herself into her arms and burst into tears.
She had never been so humiliated in her life, being thrown out like garbage.
“Mom! Mom! I lost my job, it’s all Jiang Yu’s fault!”
For a moment, the Duan family looked at Jiang Ting with condemning eyes.
There’s nothing I can do. Since Jiang Yu is not here, I can only vent my anger on Jiang Ting.
Wen Yan was so angry that her teeth itched. She said sarcastically, “Hongxia, I’m not saying that the daughter-in-law you married is really no good. These two sisters are clearly troublemakers!”
Lin Donghua even put her hands on her hips and shouted, “Your sister ruined my sister-in-law’s job, so she has to pay compensation? You can’t buy a job now without a thousand yuan!”
Lin Hongxia’s face changed drastically. It was really unfortunate for her family to have someone like Jiang Ting come into the family.
She raised her hand and slapped Jiang Ting in the face, cursing “Bitch, there is no good person in your family, always causing trouble for me!”
Jiang Ting covered her face and dared not fight back, she said aggrievedly “Mom, I don’t know either!”
