Chapter 61 :  I Don’t Like You

“Do you mind?” He Feiyan asked.

Jiang Yu blinked, “Mind what?”

He Feiyan mumbled, “He’s been on dates with so many people before it finally came to you.”

Jiang Yu couldn’t help but laugh, “Haven’t I been on dates with quite a few people too? He’s not my first.”

They were equally matched, really.

He Feiyan bit her lip, thinking if she successfully set up a date with Huang Zefang, then He Tingyue would have no chance at all.

It would be such a shame to let the potential sister-in-law slip away like this.

“How about I accompany you to the date tomorrow?”

Jiang Yu was surprised, “You’re coming with me to the date?”

“Of course! I’ve met more people than you, and I have more experience. I can stay by your side for reference.” He Feiyan patted her chest, looking confident.

Jiang Yu hesitated, “Won’t that be a bit inappropriate?”

“Why would it be? I won’t interfere with your date.” He Feiyan was determined to sabotage this blind date.

Seeing her insist, Jiang Yu reluctantly agreed.

The next day, He Feiyan showed up on time at the entrance of the state-run restaurant.

A typical blind date involved having a meal together, if things went well, they could continue, dating if not, they would part ways.

When Jiang Yu arrived, Huang Zefang hadn’t come yet.

He Feiyan said, “Jiang Yu, I suddenly feel thirsty. Can you go buy me a bottle of North Ice soda?”

Jiang Yu hesitated, “Why not wait until after we eat?”

“But I want it now! Anyway, he hasn’t arrived yet, just go buy it for me, please.”

He Feiyan was adept at using her charms, and Jiang Yu couldn’t refuse, so she went out to buy it.

Little did she know that at that moment, He Feiyan was already starting her date with Huang Zefang inside the restaurant.

“Huang Zefang? I thought the person I was supposed to meet today was Jiang Yu,” he remarked.

Feeling a bit guilty but determined for her brother’s happiness, He Feiyan pressed on.

“Jiang Yu already has someone. You’re late. But to avoid wasting your trip, I came to meet you instead.”

Huang Zefang was surprised but didn’t object too much.

To him, any blind date was the same.

Just as he was about to order, He Feiyan interrupted.

“Huang, no need to order. I’m not interested in you.”

Huang Zefang: “…”

It was the first time in all his blind dates that a girl had flat-out told him this.

He felt astonished and a bit ridiculous.

He smiled awkwardly, “He Feiyan, may I ask what it is you don’t like about me?”

He thought he looked decent and had a good job.

For her to reject him without even knowing his basic qualities seemed far from how a blind date should go.

Though He Feiyan had to admit, he was quite good-looking.

Just his handsome appearance was enough to catch her attention.

But she had to hold her ground.

“When you walked in, you stepped in with your left foot first, and I don’t like that.”

Huang Zefang: “…” This was getting more ridiculous.

He was almost amused, but before he could respond, someone called for him.

“Boss!”

A man rushed in and whispered a few words to Huang Zefang.

Huang frowned, “Sorry, He Feiyan, I have an urgent task that came up. I can’t continue the date. But I have a good impression of you and hope we can get to know each other better in the future.”

With that, he stood up and left.

He Feiyan was stunned. Who wanted to get to know him better?

Just as Huang Zefang left, Jiang Yu returned.

She wiped her sweat and placed the soda on the table.

“Here, drink it.”

He Feiyan stuck out her tongue guiltily, “Thanks, Jiang Yu.”

Jiang Yu glanced at her, “Has Huang Zefang come yet?”

“He came,” He Feiyan took a breath and lied without batting an eye, “He hadn’t even sat down or said much before he said he had a task and left.”

“Really?” Jiang Yu didn’t seem disappointed, just surprised.

It seemed they weren’t meant to be.

“Let him go, then.”

He Feiyan swallowed her soda and smiled, “Jiang Yu, since one has left, let me introduce you to another.”

Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow, “You’re going to introduce me?”

“Yes, he’s here, so I’ll leave first,” He Feiyan waved at her and stood up with the soda.

Jiang Yu turned around and saw He Tingyue and matchmaker Yao standing at the door.

Her heart skipped a beat as she stared at them in shock.

Yao, grinning widely, said, “Jiang Yu, this one doesn’t need much introduction, right? You two chat today. I say, you won’t find a better match in the entire North City than Section Chief He for you.”

Jiang Yu felt her face flush and quickly looked away in embarrassment.

“Grandma Yao, why is this so sudden?”

Matchmaker Yao patted her shoulder, “Fate often comes unexpectedly. Outstanding gentlemen are always worth grabbing.”

She was surprised herself when she saw He Tingyue waiting outside her door this morning, asking her to introduce him to someone.

At first, she wondered which lucky girl had won his heart.

Then she found out it was Jiang Yu!

She couldn’t help but laugh, surely, Yao Xiangling was right, there wasn’t a guy who didn’t love Jiang Yu’s looks.

“Alright, I won’t disturb you. You two chat and maybe go for a meal or a movie later.”

With a wave,Matchmaker Yao left, leaving just Jiang Yu and He Tingyue.

He Tingyue seemed calm but was actually quite nervous inside.

Having no experience with blind dates, he decided to do what he thought was best.

“You probably haven’t eaten yet?”

Jiang Yu shook her head, “Not yet.”

“Then let’s order some dishes here and eat while we talk, okay?”

Jiang Yu nodded, “Sure.”

She touched her face with the back of her hand. Ever since He Tingyue appeared, her face had been burning up.

This was He Tingyue’s first time taking a girl out to eat, and he wanted to bring her the best food, not caring about the amount.

When Jiang Yu heard he ordered five meat dishes, she hurriedly stopped him.

“Too much! There are just two of us, we can’t eat that much. Let’s just order two meat and one vegetable dish. That should be enough.”

The waiter nodded, “Right, we should avoid waste.”

He Tingyue crossed off the fish and braised pork, leaving chicken with mushrooms and some marinated dishes, plus a tomato and egg stir-fry.

Since the dishes would take a while to arrive, once the waiter left, there was an awkward silence between them.

“Jiang Yu, I want to apologize again for what happened before, and I hope you can forgive me.”

Jiang Yu felt a bit panicked and quickly replied, “That was in the past. It was all a misunderstanding. I didn’t take it to heart.”

“No, it wasn’t a misunderstanding.” He Tingyue said solemnly, “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have defined you without your consent or denied my own feelings. In fact, when I like someone, I only want to present the best to them.”
