Chapter 64 : He chose He Feiyan
Jiang Yu could clearly understand every word, but when they were put together, she actually felt a little confused.
“What chance?”
Zhuang Yihang puffed out his chest with a sense of pride.
He had wanted to find Jiang Yu for a while but had been holding back because his mother said that Jiang Yu would be lucky to marry him and would come looking for him.
At first, he hadn’t believed it, but now he saw it was true.
“You probably still haven’t found a boyfriend in the city, right? After all, you’re a country girl. Wanting to marry a city person isn’t that simple. Just so happens, I think you’re quite suitable for me. As long as you listen to my mother, I can reluctantly consider dating you.”
Jiang Yu replied, “…So I should thank you?”
Zhuang Yihang smiled, “No need after all, your status doesn’t quite match mine.”
Jiang Yu scoffed, “What status do I have, and what status do you have? Aren’t we both part of the proletariat, the successors of socialism? Are you some kind of feudal prince who needs to match with nobility?”
Her words left Zhuang Yihang flustered.
“Don’t say that, I didn’t mean—”
Jiang Yu lifted her chin, “Then explain what you mean by my status not matching yours.”
Zhuang Yihang stammered, “I meant you’re just a country girl.”
“What’s wrong with being a country girl? So, you look down on us country folks? My family has been poor farmers for several generations, our class background is just fine. How can you look down on self-reliant proletarians? Your thinking is problematic!”
Zhuang Yihang was caught off guard by Jiang Yu’s argument, struggling to keep up with her thoughts.
He clearly didn’t mean it that way!
Finally, Ren Jie stepped in and said, “This girl of yours sure knows how to put labels on people. Don’t bully the honest Zhuang. If you came to seek peace, you should show some attitude. Why act so high and mighty? You should know, Zhuang’s quite the catch, if he hadn’t set his sights on you, many city girls would want to marry him.”
Jiang Yu replied, “Sister, if you like him, go ahead! When did I say I liked him? I already have a boyfriend.”
Ren Jie paused, then looked at Zhuang Yihang’s foolish expression, and it became clear.
Zhuang Yihang was just one-sidedly infatuated, Jiang Yu didn’t even notice him.
“Then you must be looking for Director Yao?” Ren Jie asked.
“Yes, please help me call for him.”
As soon as Jiang Yu finished speaking, she saw Yao Xiangling walking out from inside.
“Let’s go, I heard your voice from inside.”
Jiang Yu smiled brightly as she took Yao’s arm.
“Auntie, let’s eat out today. I have good news to share.”
As their figures faded into the distance, Zhuang Yihang stared at them, dazed for a long time.
Ren Jie sighed, “Zhuang, stop staring, she already has a boyfriend. You’re not getting any younger, should I introduce you to someone?”
Zhuang Yihang felt a mix of disappointment and reluctance.
Who was Jiang Yu’s boyfriend? Did he have a formal job? Was he better off than him?
Why didn’t she like him? What was wrong with him?
“Alright! Ren Jie, please introduce me to someone better than Jiang Yu.”
Ren Jie looked unimpressed. “What city girl isn’t better than her? I have a niece, her father is a middle school principal, and their family is quite well-off.”
Zhuang Yihang thought about it and it sounded a bit like Zhang Xiyue.
“What’s her name?”
“Zhang Xiyue. Want to meet her?”
Zhuang Yihang felt a bit awkward. “I know her, but doesn’t she already have a boyfriend?”
Ren Jie scoffed, “She’s said to have broken up. Her parents never approved, and it was all a moment of confusion on her part.”
He heard that it was the guy who proposed the breakup, and Zhang Xiyue had cried at home for several days and still hadn’t gotten over it.
Zhang Xiyue’s mother and Ren Jie were sisters, and after some discussion, they decided to get Zhang Xiyue married as soon as possible.
Zhuang Yihang hesitated for a moment, wondering if it would be inappropriate to go after his cousin’s ex.
But Zhang Xiyue’s conditions were indeed quite good, she was pretty and aside from being a bit proud, she was quite appealing.
“Ren Jie, I need to go home and talk to my mom.”
“Sure, go ask her.”
…
Meanwhile, Jiang Yu and Yao Xiangling walked arm in arm to the state-run restaurant.
Having come twice in one day felt extravagant to Jiang Yu.
However, after hearing her good news, Yao Xiangling thought it deserved a celebration.
“This is great news! Since you’ve confirmed your relationship, have you talked about when you’ll get married?”
That was how it usually went, after finding a suitable partner, preparations for marriage could begin.
When it came to marriage, Jiang Yu felt both excited and shy.
“We’ll date for a while first. If it feels right, we could get married next month.”
Yao Xiangling meant to get married quickly to avoid any unforeseen complications.
Seeing that Jiang Yu had a plan, she didn’t press further.
“As long as you know what you want, Auntie only hopes for your happiness. That little He is a good one once you’re married, he’ll be sincere, and a couple should always treat each other sincerely.”
“Auntie, I know. He treats me well, and I’ll treat him well.”
Jiang Yu’s good mood all day stemmed from He Tingyue.
This feeling lasted until the next day.
She announced the news to Xie Fei fei and He Feiyan that she and He Tingyue were dating.
Xie Fei fei sighed, “My cousin isn’t quite as good as Section Chief He.”
He Feiyan already knew about this but not from He Tingyue.
“Yesterday, Duan Yuzhen returned to the compound and immediately told Jiang Ting about it. Your sister was quite upset.”
Jiang Ting had always held a sense of superiority over Jiang Yu simply because she had married Fu Xiangyang.
Now that Jiang Yu had found someone better, she must be furious.
He Feiyan linked her arm with Jiang Yu’s and tilted her head.
“Can I call you sister-in-law ahead of time?”
Jiang Yu teased, “We aren’t married yet, it’s too early for you to say that.”
He Feiyan just smiled and said nothing. She knew her brother well. He would either not have any feelings for her or, once he had decided on a partner, he would not change his mind.
But Xie Fei fei turned to look at Jiang Yu with a somewhat meaningful gaze.
“My cousin didn’t meet up with you yesterday, right?”
Jiang Yu nodded, “I heard he went on a mission.”
Xie Fei fei said, “He did go on a mission, but he left a message for my parents saying he’s turned down all other women because he’s already found someone he’s interested in.”
Jiang Yu looked puzzled, while Xie Fei fei stared intently at He Feiyan.
“My cousin said he’s interested in Comrade He Feiyan.”
He Feiyan: “…”
They had only exchanged a couple of sentences, how could he be interested already?
She raised her hands in a gesture of surrender.
“I talked to him, but it added up to less than ten sentences!”
Xie Fei fei didn’t care about the process, she only cared about the result.
At least someone had finally caught Huang Zefang’s eye.
“Feiyan, what do you think of my cousin?”
He Feiyan hesitated for a moment. “Should I be honest?”
“Of course.”
He Feiyan replied, “He’s good-looking, his conditions are decent, but I don’t have strong feelings for him.”
It was strange, she just wasn’t moved.
Xie Fei fei let out a disappointed sigh, knowing that feelings couldn’t be forced.
