Chapter 67 : Let Jiang Yu give this object to me
Jiang Yu could sense that Wang Meili was genuinely happy, she could tell from the excessive sugar in the water she prepared.
As soon as the sweet water was set down, Jiang Yonghua started giving orders again, “You should ask the captain’s family if they can ask Guangcai to get some meat. Let Little He stay here for a meal today.”
Guangcai was the son of the captain who worked at the meat processing plant.
Before Wang Meili could act, Jiang Yu interrupted “He’s not staying for a meal, he’ll just have some water and leave. He came today just to see me home and can’t stay longer.”
Jiang Yonghua and Wang Meili’s smiles froze as they looked at He Tingyue, seemingly seeking his opinion.
He Tingyue spoke softly, “What Jiang Yu means is what I mean. Last time, when she had an accident on her way home, I helped her. This time, hearing she was back, I came to check on her.”
When he didn’t smile, the atmosphere around him became tense, making it hard to breathe.
His sharp gaze subtly swept over Jiang Hao.
Everyone knew the hidden meaning behind the words.
He was clearly referring to Jiang Hao.
Wang Meili forced a laugh, “What could happen at home?”
Jiang Yu didn’t give them a chance to argue further, saying directly, “You should head back first, or you’ll miss the bus.”
He Tingyue stood up, greedily wanting to steal another glance at her.
But his mind is clear that it’s time to go.
“Then I’ll head back first, I’ll come visit properly another day.”
As for the next visit, it would naturally be to propose.
He Tingyue turned to Jiang Yonghua “Uncle, I’ll rely on you to take care of Jiang Yu during this time.”
Jiang Yonghua nodded silently, feeling uneasy.
The reason was simple: He Tingyue showed no respect for him as the future father-in-law and seemed not to regard him at all.
It was likely due to the actions of Jiang Hao that his displeasure was misdirected at Jiang Yonghua.
But with so many people watching, no matter how dissatisfied he was, he had to put on a happy face.
“Take care, Little He. Be safe.”
He Tingyue didn’t respond, he simply glanced at Jiang Yu before riding off on his bike.
Jiang Yonghua, with a stern face, walked into the house with his hands behind his back.
Yang Cuilan scoffed, “I thought Jiang Yu’s boyfriend would be something special, but look at how he acts like he’s above everyone else. How could he help Jiang Hao in the future? I definitely don’t believe it.”
Wang Meili spat at her, “Whether he helps Jiang Hao or not is our family’s business, what gives you the right to talk? No matter how you envy, he’s still Jiang Yu’s boyfriend and it has nothing to do with your daughter Jiang Li!”
Jiang Li was Yang Cuilan’s daughter, who was a year older than Jiang Yu.
Yang Cuilan had two sons and a daughter, priding herself on never being biased towards males over females, but she doted on Jiang Li excessively.
There was nothing wrong with loving her daughter more, but others felt she had spoiled Jiang Li to the point where she looked down on country folks and always dreamed of marrying someone from the city.
Even those from the city, Jiang Li might not have found suitable, she picked and chose but had yet to settle on anyone.
But she didn’t consider that Jiang Yu and Jiang Ting, the twin sisters, were truly exceptional and marrying into the city was a rare opportunity.
Wang Meili’s words infuriated Yang Cuilan.
Fuming, she returned home and took a firewood stick to hit Jiang Ye.
Jiang Ye used to stand still and take the hits, but he had learned to dodge now. After taking a couple of hits, he ran off far away.
Yang Cuilan grew angrier, shouting, “Run then! If you can, don’t come home for the rest of your life! I’ll pretend I never had you as a son!”
By now, it was already late morning when Jiang Li finally got up, yawning as she walked out of the room.
“Mom, why are you so angry so early in the morning?”
Jiang Li resembled Yang Cuilan, with squinty eyes that could hardly open wide.
Thinking of Wang Meili’s smug expression, Yang Cuilan angrily pushed her forehead, her irritation growing.
“You still have the energy to sleep? Do you know Jiang Yu brought her boyfriend back?!”
Jiang Li was taken aback. “Whose boyfriend?”
“The boyfriend from the city! He works at the Second Factory and is quite handsome and well-built. Jiang Yu really got a great deal!”
The more Yang Cuilan talked, the more sour she felt inside.
Why couldn’t Jiang Li be the one to catch such a lucky break?
Jiang Li was so upset she felt like she could chew her teeth to bits.
“Didn’t Jiang Ting just marry a city guy? City men aren’t just lying around like cabbages!”
Yang Cuilan scoffed, “I knew it the moment I saw Jiang Yu, with her looks, she’s clearly not a decent woman. Who knows how she managed to catch someone? Ugh, people like us can’t do such things.”
Jiang Li bit her lip, “Mom, hurry and find a matchmaker for me! Jiang Yu is getting married, and I don’t even have a boyfriend!”
Yang Cuilan was equally troubled and hesitated for a moment, “How about finding someone from the countryside? If the conditions are decent, we can settle for that.”
“I don’t want that, I want to marry someone from the city! I only want to marry a city person!”
Yang Cuilan felt overwhelmed, “I’ve introduced people before, but you haven’t liked any. What can I do?”
Jiang Li huffed, “Those guys all look crooked or are too short. You wouldn’t even look at them, let alone me.”
Yang Cuilan sighed, her mind drifting to He Tingyue’s face.
“If only Jiang Yu’s boyfriend were available for you.”
Jiang Li’s interest was piqued, “Is he really that good?”
Yang Cuilan gave a thumbs up, “I’ve seen many men, and he definitely stands out in terms of looks and build.”
“Mom, think of a way to let Jiang Yu give him to me!” Jiang Li pleaded.
Yang Cuilan frowned and shook her head.
There was no way Jiang Yu would agree to that.
But Jiang Li, half pleading and half threatening, insisted, “Mom, please spoil me one more time. If I had such a son-in-law, you and Dad would have face! If I can’t find a man as good as him, I won’t marry at all, I’ll just cut my hair and become a nun!”
Yang Cuilan, exasperated, smacked her, “What nonsense is this? You can’t just say whatever you want! Let me think, it’s not something I can just make happen.”
Jiang Yu was completely unaware of her aunt and cousin’s scheming.
During her visit, Yao Xiangling had given her a lot of treats.
Most of it was snacks, with three packs of peach pastries alone.
Without a second thought, Wang Meili reached for Jiang Yu’s bag, wanting to take it, but Jiang Yu dodged.
“Mom, I brought these back, I want to distribute them myself.”
Jiang Hao frowned, “Elder sister, how long have you been in the city that you don’t consider yourself a daughter anymore? Mom always makes the decisions in our family, so of course, these should be divided by her.”
Jiang Yu scoffed, “If Mom distributes them, will there be any left for me and Jiang Xin?”
Old Lady Ye shouted angrily, “You little girl, trying to steal food from your brother? In our time, girls had a hard time even getting a bite to eat, and you think you can have peach pastries! Hand them over, they’re all for your brother!”
Jiang Hao raised his chin, feeling quite smug.
