Chapter 74 : Ticket Evasion
Jiang Yu blocked Jiang Xin behind her and looked at her coldly.
“Grandma Zhao, I know you are worthless, but there is no need to emphasize this repeatedly. You are making a very clear point. You must have been a child bride, so you know so much!”
Jiang Xin made a face at Old Lady Zhao, “Old woman, you are shameless!”
Old Lady Zhao was so angry that her face was horrible. “You have no manners. I will tear your mouth off!”
Just as she took two steps, Yao Xiangling pushed away the sisters Jiang Yu and Jiang Xin and poured a basin of water on Old Lady Zhao.
“Please drink my foot washing water. You’re welcome!”
Old Lady Zhao’s face changed drastically, and the water that accidentally entered her mouth was swallowed down with a gurgling sound.
“vomit……”
She leaned against the door frame and began to dry heave. Yao Xiangling ignored her and pushed Jiang Yu away.
“Go back now, don’t delay.”
Jiang Yu turned around and looked at her, “Aunt, then she…”
“What’s wrong with her? Can she eat me? Just call her a bad mouth. If she does it again, I’ll buy her foot washing water.”
Jiang Yu then took Jiang Xin downstairs, but didn’t expect He Tingyue to still be waiting there.
“I’ll take you to the car.”
Jiang Yu felt a little distressed seeing him sweating profusely.
The autumn heat in the northern city was still intense.
“Why are you waiting here? I should have brought you up with me.”
He Tingyue smiled slightly, feeling it was worth it.
“It’s not a good influence to come up?”
Jiang Yu glanced at the back seat, originally wanting to take Jiang Xin with her.
However, He Tingyue grabbed Jiang Xin’s arm and motioned for her to sit in the front.
“There’s not much space in the back, it’s crowded.”
Jiang Yu pursed her lips and sat down, suppressing her shyness.
“Sit tight?”
“Hold on tight, sister-in-law!”
He Tingyue stepped on the gas, and Jiang Yu leaned back due to inertia, falling into his arms.
The heat seeped through two layers of clothes, and she suddenly felt the day was quite hot.
When they arrived at the station, He Tingyue bought her a ticket as usual.
This time, Jiang Yu didn’t hesitate to accept it openly.
She still had a few hundred dollars he had given her and a stack of bills in her pocket, so there was no point in fussing over these things.
The bus arrived, and He Tingyue told them to get on and find a good seat.
He waited until the bus left before riding away on his bike.
Jiang Xin leaned against the window and said, “Sister, my brother-in-law really likes you.”
Jiang Yu replied angrily, “You’re so young, how can you know this? You’re just talking nonsense.”
Jiang Xin wrinkled her nose. “I’m not talking nonsense. You can feel when you like someone. If your husband treats you well, that means he likes you. If he didn’t like you, why would he be nice to me?”
Jiang Yu didn’t refute anymore. She felt a sweet warmth in her heart, as if bubbles were popping up.
She could feel it too.
When the bus stopped at a station along the way, the two sisters saw Jiang Li again.
Her face looked a bit pale, and she climbed aboard, looking exhausted.
The ticket seller counted the number of people and said, “Buy your tickets! Take out your money and buy your tickets!”
When they boarded, he had clearly counted eleven people.
But counting now, only ten had bought tickets.
The ticket seller’s expression changed, and he started shouting, “Which one of you scoundrels skipped out on paying? If one person hasn’t bought a ticket, step forward and pay, or I’ll have to take action!”
Everyone exchanged glances, remaining silent.
Jiang Yu and Jiang Xin turned their attention to the window, ignoring the commotion.
Seeing no one stepping forward, the ticket seller shouted, “Take out your tickets! I want to check!”
When they bought tickets, the seller always gave them a stub to prevent anyone from skipping out.
He started checking from the front, looking at each ticket one by one.
Jiang Yu glanced at Jiang Li, who was nervously clutching a ticket, looking guilty.
Suddenly—
“Sir, where’s your ticket?”
An elderly man with gray hair patted his pockets, unable to find his ticket.
“I have a ticket! I bought a ticket! I got on in the city, I didn’t board midway!”
The ticket seller didn’t immediately start yelling, he vaguely remembered this man wasn’t a new passenger.
He scanned the bus interior, realizing he couldn’t remember everyone’s faces from the eleven who had boarded.
Finally, her gaze landed on Jiang Li.
“Show me your ticket.”
He remembered Jiang Li because of how pale she looked, as if she were on the verge of death.
Jiang Li, feeling guilty, handed over her ticket.
The ticket seller looked at it and sneered.
“You just got on the bus, but the time on your ticket shows the departure time from the city?”
He noted the time every time they stopped at a mid-route station and wrote it on the tickets.
Jiang Li was clearly trying to skip out on her fare and had even taken this old man’s ticket!
“Zhang, stop the bus! We have a fare dodger here, throw her off!”
Jiang Li quickly pleaded, “No! Don’t throw me off the bus!”
The ticket seller replied, “Then pay the fare now!”
Jiang Li’s face showed distress. “I don’t have any money, but I promise I’ll come back to pay once I get home!”
The ticket seller didn’t have time to deal with her, who would go all the way back home just for a few bucks?
“There’s no reason for that. Either pay up now or get off the bus!”
His unwavering attitude made Jiang Li feel desperate.
She didn’t want to leave!
She hadn’t had lunch and had already exhausted herself walking from the city to this stop.
In her despair, Jiang Li spotted Jiang Yu, as if she had found a lifeline, and rushed through the crowd.
“Jiang Yu! Jiang Yu! Help me pay the fare!”
Jiang Yu looked surprised. “Li Jie? What happened to you?”
Jiang Li gritted her teeth in frustration, wasn’t this all because of Jiang Yu?
“Don’t ask, just help me pay!”
Jiang Yu didn’t immediately pull out money but asked suspiciously, “If I pay your fare, will you pay me back?”
“Of course I’ll pay you back! Jiang Yu, if you don’t help me, I’ll really be thrown off. Please!”
Jiang Yu clicked her tongue and finally took out money for the ticket.
“But just so you know, you have to pay me back.”
“I will, definitely!” Jiang Li replied perfunctorily.
But she had no money at all, the twenty cents she had when she entered the city were hard-earned savings.
Yang Cuilan cared for her but was also stingy.
Not just her, even her older brother had no money on him.
Jiang Xin tilted her head and asked, “Li Jie, do you have money to pay her back?”
Jiang Li shot her an annoyed look. “It’s none of your business!”
“How can it not be my business?” Jiang Xin said cheerfully. “You’re using my sister’s money! We’re not family! You were even planning to scam the old lady out of ten bucks when you went to the city, if you had money, why would you be trying to cheat others?”
Jiang Xin exposed all of Jiang Li’s excuses, drawing the attention of Master Zhang and the ticket seller.
Especially the ticket seller, who suddenly realized.
“Oh, so it’s you!”
The ticket seller shook her head in disbelief, tantalizing the other passengers.
“Do tell us what she’s really done!”
“Comrade, you really shouldn’t pay for her ticket, she definitely can’t pay you back.” This was directed at Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu smiled. “It’s fine, if she can’t pay me back, I’ll just go after her parents. Li Jie, you wouldn’t actually not pay me back, right?”
Jiang Li felt embarrassed, unable to escape the bus, so she lowered her head, nearly burying her face in her chest.
“I’ll pay! I’ll definitely pay you back! If I don’t, I won’t be a Jiang anymore, does that work?”
