Chapter 93 : Dowry
“Where did this car come from?” Jiang Yu asked.
She had to admit that He Tingyue had given her enough face, greatly satisfying her vanity.
Although it was all for show, it still reflected He Tingyue’s care for her.
He Tingyue held her hand, smiling as he explained, “My former boss heard I was getting married and lent me the car.”
Since he couldn’t come to the wedding, this car was his wedding gift to He Tingyue.
Jiang Yu felt satisfied, and that made him happy.
The military jeep had a double row of seats in the back.
He Tingyue and Jiang Yu sat together, while Yao Xiangling and Wang Meili shared a seat, with Jiang Yonghua in the front passenger seat.
Wang Meili was grinning from ear to ear, chatting away with Yao Xiangling, but got no response and eventually fell silent.
Yao Xiangling lived close to the communal courtyard, so to prolong the ride, they deliberately took a longer route, circling around before returning to the courtyard.
The car couldn’t enter the alley and had to park outside.
Jiang Yonghua straightened his clothes and, under the astonished gazes of everyone, got out of the car.
“Isn’t that Director He from the second factory’s security department?”
“Director He is getting married today? And he has a car, how impressive!”
“The bride is really beautiful, I wonder which family she’s from.”
“Oh, that bicycle is new,is it part of the dowry?”
Jiang Yu and He Tingyue held hands as they walked into the courtyard amidst everyone’s envious glances.
When He Feiyan spotted them, she quickly directed, “The bride is coming in! Let’s set off the firecrackers!”
To make sure the firecrackers lasted a long time, she had bought two sets to connect together.
They would start when Jiang Yu entered and keep going until she walked into the south room.
“Wow! The bride is coming in!”
“So many candies quick, grab the candies!”
“Look, there are red envelopes too! I found five cents!”
This alley was filled with families from the second factory, and children gathered in groups to rush over and pick up candies.
From the moment Jiang Yu entered, He Tingyue’s brothers threw out bags of candies as if they were free.
There were also plenty of five-cent red envelopes mixed in.
Besides the kids, many adults joined in to collect them after all, five cents was still money.
Lin Hongxia sat inside, unable to resist sneaking peeks outside.
She had planned not to show herself when Jiang Yu entered, but the commotion outside was too enticing.
Jiang Ting stood by the door, her eyes reddened.
What a grand occasion! When she married Fu Xiangyang, it wasn’t this lively.
Just then, Sun’s mother suddenly exclaimed.
“Oh, that bicycle is new, isn’t it? I could tell the sewing machine was old, but that bicycle looks brand new, it’s clearly never been ridden.”
Xu Lihua rolled her eyes. “Do you think that bicycle is a gift from Xiao He, or…?”
Jiang Ting was taken aback and looked over.
Behind her were the dowry items Jiang Yu had brought in, countless brand-new items coming into view.
These were things she hadn’t had when she got married.
When she entered, the two quilts in her dowry had been prepared by herself, her parents didn’t care about appearances and seemed eager to squeeze out her last bit of value.
But with Jiang Yu, there was a hot water kettle, a sewing machine, and even a bicycle.
If she could start over, why was she still inferior to Jiang Yu?
At that moment, Xu Lihua returned after inquiring about the details.
“Guess what? These aren’t gifts, they’re all part of Jiang Yu’s dowry!”
“No way!” Jiang Ting immediately denied.
Her parents had no money to buy these things.
Xu Lihua smiled knowingly. “Jiang Ting, these weren’t bought by your parents, they were personally prepared by your aunt for your sister. Not only that, but Xiao He even borrowed a car to bring your sister in, the car is still parked at the alley entrance, it’s quite a sight!”
Sun’s mother stood beside Zhao Qing, looking on with interest.
“Jiang Ting, normally, you should also call her aunt, so why didn’t she buy you anything? That’s really biased.” Zhao Qing feigned sympathy while secretly enjoying the situation.
Jiang Ting pulled at the corners of her mouth, unable to muster a smile.
“Jiang Yu is often around my aunt, so of course, their relationship is different.”
“Is that so? You’re twins, yet your aunt is closer to Jiang Yu and not to you. It really is biased,” Zhao Qing said deliberately.
Jiang Ting felt a stab of pain at her words.
She was already feeling uneasy, how could she tolerate Zhao Qing bringing it up repeatedly?
“Zhao Qing, pregnant women shouldn’t be exposed to the wind, you should go back inside,” Jiang Ting said coolly.
Seeing Zhao Qing’s expression change, she pretended to slap her own mouth.
“Oh, look at my mouth! I almost forgot, you’re not pregnant at all! It’s been quite a while since you and Liangzi got together, why haven’t you gotten pregnant yet? Could it be a health issue? You should hurry to the hospital and get checked.”
Zhao Qing was left speechless, her face turning ashen.
Sun’s mother fared even worse, looking furious.
The matter of her and Sun Zailiang being tricked by Zhao Qing had spread throughout the second factory, hardly anyone didn’t know about it.
She clenched her fists tightly, her chest heaving.
“What an embarrassing thing, hurry up and get inside!”
Zhao Qing bit her lip, feeling wronged. “Mom…”
“Get inside!” Sun’s mother said coldly.
Zhao Qing glared fiercely at Jiang Ting before angrily turning and entering the house.
To be honest, Jiang Yu looked beautiful without makeup, but now in her red wedding dress and with lipstick on, she looked like a blooming flower so captivating that it was hard to look away.
No wonder He Tingyue, a man who had never shown interest before, was suddenly so smitten.
“Oh, since Jiang Yu entered, she has completely overshadowed the other young brides in our courtyard.”
As if they were somehow less than Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu covered her mouth and smiled. “Aunt Xu, you flatter me. It’s not just about looks, every family has its merits. There’s no point in comparing. Speaking of which, I think Sister Lin Rui from Aunt Xu’s family is quite wonderful.”
The women in the room burst into laughter immediately.
“Isn’t that so? Lin Rui only earns a little each month and gives it all to her in-laws, yet she still manages to buy clothes for her mother-in-law.”
“Oh, she’s really good at budgeting. If it were me, I certainly wouldn’t have any money left.”
“She’s not just budgeting, someone helps her out. If everyone chips in a little, it’s enough for her to get by.”
“I wonder when we’ll get to celebrate a wedding in Aunt Xu’s family. Lin Rui is still young, and without kids, it wouldn’t be hard for her to marry again.”
Xu Lihua spoke up, but soon found herself frustrated by their comments. She let out a cold huff and turned to leave the south room.
