Chapter 017: Family Dinner
There were four pieces of information in total, and items one and two could more or less be figured out by anyone who paid attention.
But items three and four—those were the real keys. Most people had no idea how dangerous the anomalies in Fallen Gods Continent truly were.
Generally speaking, in the profession system of Fallen Gods Continent, only when one reached level 10 or above could they reliably suppress monsters below that level—and even then, injury was still possible.
Because at level 11, a player’s power would undergo a dramatic transformation:
That was ten times the power of players under level 10.
So, for anyone below level 10, the only rule when encountering a monster was a single word: run.
If you couldn’t run? There was only one outcome—death.
Of course, Yun Xi was an exception. Her starting Spirit stat was already higher than that of an average level-10 spellcaster. So even though she hadn’t yet reached the level threshold, she could still use the high damage from her Spirit attribute to kill level-1 or level-2 monsters.
As for monsters at level 3 or higher—her starting stats just weren’t enough.
Even with her cheat-like rebirth, she had to proceed with extreme caution. Other players stood even less of a chance.
If you were under level 10 and stepped outside the starter village without a powerful ally, you’d be insta-killed on sight.
Thinking of this, Yun Xi was reminded of her past life as a refugee.
Starting out in Fallen Gods Continent as a refugee meant you had to rely entirely on your own luck to survive.
Luckily, her Luck stat had been above 90, which meant she rarely ran into monsters in the early game. Even if she did, they were just level-1 monsters—low Constitution, so if she focused on running, she could usually get away.
However, as for item four in the announcement—there was a mistake.
The suggestion to “log out immediately when encountering danger” was only effective during the first beta.
Starting from the second closed beta, the beginner’s privilege of being able to force-log out when in danger was removed. During combat, players would no longer be able to log out.
But Yun Xi had no way of warning others for now. She couldn’t explain how she knew all this in advance, so she could only wait until the next beta server opened to submit a report.
Yun Xi closed the announcement tab and returned to the group chat, hoping to find more useful information.
[Niuniu]: Friends, can someone explain the difference between a Spellcaster and a Warrior? I’m really torn between the two.
[Ai Mengmeng]: Niuniu, seriously? Haven’t you heard anything in your village? Spellcasters have higher status—Warriors are just so-so.
[Niuniu]: My starter village is huge, and info is all over the place. I originally wanted to go Warrior, but the training master in my village said my Spirit stat qualified me for Spellcaster, so they suggested I go for that.
[Haoran]: @Niuniu, sorry to be blunt, but can I ask how high your Spirit stat is? I want to become a Spellcaster too, but my Spirit isn’t high enough.
My Warrior mentor said I need to assign stat points to Spirit after leveling up if I want to qualify for Spellcaster.
But I have no idea how many points I need to assign to meet the requirement.
[Niuniu]: @Haoran, my Spirit is 7. What’s yours? Isn’t that enough?
[Haoran]: @Niuniu, mine’s only 3… tragic.
[AAA Detergent]: To those who don’t have enough Spirit to qualify—stop fixating on becoming a Spellcaster. Focus on completing your main quest first.
[AAA Detergent]: From what I know, it’s very hard to level up by solo grinding. Raise your Warrior power enough to kill monsters before considering investing in Spirit.
[Haoran]: Thanks for the tip, Detergent.
[Wind’s Romance]: Seriously, why are you all talking about jobs? Isn’t anyone gonna ask why the food from the system store is so terrible?
[AAA Detergent]: @Wind’s Romance, don’t tell me you’re buying all those copper coins just to get tastier food? The good stuff from local stores is super expensive.
[Wind’s Romance]: Hahaha, you got me.
…
As she read through the stream of messages, Yun Xi didn’t find anything particularly useful. Right now, everyone was mostly discussing:
People weren’t just trading between copper coins and blossom coins—many were also trying to buy spell and skill patterns.
However, factions in Fallen Gods Continent strictly controlled the dissemination of such techniques.
Unless you acquired a technique through a special event or quest, you had no right to pass it on.
Most techniques learned through local factions came with contracts signed at apprenticeship—forbidding any kind of external sharing.
This also applied to the techniques Yun Xi herself had mastered.
She had learned her spell techniques from a heritage crystal, and until she fully inherited it, she wasn’t allowed to share its contents.
The only two techniques Yun Xi was allowed to pass on were from two high-level spell patterns she had gained through fortuitous events in her past life. But those were for level-30+ spellcasters, far beyond the current abilities of anyone on Blue Star.
She couldn’t help her fellow players with that yet.
Yun Xi turned off her phone and continued cultivating her Light Barrier Technique. Spirit energy surged around her. Once her energy was completely drained, she took out a white crystal stone to replenish it—repeating the cycle over and over.
Just when she thought the next 20 days would continue on in this routine—
On the third day after Fallen Gods Continent servers went offline, her biological parents finally heard about the game and her mother, Liu Yue’e, deigned to call her.
[Xixi, I’m sorry. Mom’s been too busy lately and didn’t see your messages.]
Liu Yue’e started off with an apology—not that Yun Xi could tell if it was sincere or fake.
[I’ve heard about that game too recently. Xixi, did you register for it already? Do you have enough spending money? Do you want me to transfer more?]
[Mom, I’ve got enough. No need to send more.]
[Alright then. Linlin came home today—why don’t you come back too and join us for dinner?]
The reason they wanted Yun Xi back was obvious—that hot-topic game.
[Sure. I’ll come.]
Although Yun Xi felt no emotional attachment to her biological parents, they had provided her with material support in this life. A family dinner was no big deal.
Hearing her agree, Liu Yue’e’s voice clearly perked up.
[Xixi, your dad and I will be waiting for you.]
After the call ended, Yun Xi packed lightly and returned to the Yun family estate.
But to her surprise, when she arrived, she found out that it wasn’t just her parents—her aunt’s entire family was there too.
