Chapter 037: Comrade-in-Arms
Even with the system’s soul protection, Yun Xi didn’t dare guarantee her absolute safety.
So, ever since her rebirth, Yun Xi had made a firm decision—she would never tell anyone she had been reborn, and all the information she had obtained in advance because of her rebirth would be buried in her stomach.
Otherwise, just one tiny detail might expose her and lead to fatal consequences.
With the government issuing copper coin compensation, employees in critical positions no longer had any excuse to quit their jobs.
If they wanted to play the game, copper coins were a must. Though the government couldn’t provide much, it was still better than nothing.
Now that top-ups were no longer possible in the game, the official player community erupted into another wave of heated discussion:
[Guys, anyone got tips for making money? I used to top-up daily for 648 copper coins… I was saving up to buy gear, you know.]
[Gear’s not that expensive. Even a basic set for spellcasters is less than 2,000 copper coins.]
[Not the same everywhere. In my region, gear is way pricier. Probably due to supply shortages.]
[Then I suggest joining the official faction. Their offline mall sells gear at very low prices.]
[I want to join too, but I haven’t passed my class change yet. Right now, I just want to earn some coins to buy gear—makes it safer to level up and fight.]
[You’re getting ahead of yourself. Focus on completing your class change first. How else are you going to fight—swinging a stick around?]
[You could get a job to earn money. I joined the night watch team in our village—10 copper coins daily, plus a master teaching me and training subsidies. The catch? A 10-year contract.]
[10-year contract… that really is a slave contract.]
[10 years isn’t even the worst. Mine’s a 20-year contract. I’m speechless. At least I can take leave and don’t have to stay in the village all the time.]
[Policies vary by village. Mine doesn’t require a slave contract. You can freely join the patrol or night watch, but there are no training benefits.
The masters just teach us basic techniques—don’t expect any real mentoring. Pay is also low, just 2 copper coins a day—barely enough to avoid starvation. If we couldn’t log off to eat, this would be hell…]
[Anyone worse off than us guest logins? One copper coin per day—literally welfare. Who can relate?]
[+1.]
[Players born in towns have it good. I suggest getting a normal job. Many local shops hire occasionally—base salary’s around 20 copper coins a day, with contracts renewed annually.]
[Regular jobs pay well, sure, but what’s the point? That’s no different from life on Bluestar. And bosses don’t teach you skills or spells.]
[You could save up and buy skills or spells.]
[Spell pattern scrolls cost at least 1,000 gold coins. At 20 copper a day, we’d need to work… hmm, 500,000 days. That’s 1,369 years.]
[You could buy martial arts instead—or just practice Bluestar martial arts. They’re free!]
[Then what’s the point of going to Divinefall? I might as well stay on Bluestar and train there. Why suffer for 20 copper coins a day?]
[Best option for town players is joining the patrol team—great pay and top-tier training from spellcasters and warriors.]
[Yeah yeah, everyone knows town patrols offer the best perks, but their contracts are brutal—and the death rate’s high.]
After Divinefall Continent officially entered open beta, many people started seriously considering which path to take.
Now that login times were no longer restricted, previous concerns about strict patrol contracts or being unable to take leave had faded.
Under such conditions, those truly wishing to thrive in Divinefall saw joining a town patrol team as the best option. Even newcomers could earn 80–100 copper coins daily, plus receive training from real masters.
Take Yun Xi’s location, for instance—the Shuyu Plains. Those who contributed enough to the Qiyu Principality could even be granted noble titles. With a title, you’d be in a completely different class from ordinary folk.
Of course, that was something veteran beta players considered. New players who couldn’t top-up were still struggling with the basics, especially how to earn copper coins.
At that moment, Gu Shi’an sent Yun Xi a message:
[Yun Xi, do you need copper coins? I bought some earlier—I can give you a few.]
Yun Xi was speechless.
This guy must be reborn too, right? Could his cheat be unlimited top-ups? Did he recharge everything from selling off his family’s assets?
[No need, no need. I’ve got enough copper coins for now.]
Yun Xi wasn’t too concerned about Gu Shi’an being reborn. Even if he had a mountain of coins, he couldn’t match her.
What she was curious about was—what kind of relationship had she and Gu Shi’an had in this timeline before he was reborn? Why was he being so kind to her, a so-called “rejected fiancée”?
Yun Xi always repaid kindness with kindness, and vengeance with vengeance. Gu Shi’an’s care didn’t seem fake. He had reminded her to register her account earlier, and now he was offering her copper coins…
Yun Xi took it to heart. If the opportunity arose, she would definitely repay the favor.
In Yun Xi’s original timeline, she and Gu Shi’an were comrades-in-arms. Gu Shi’an had a righteous nature and took good care of his friends.
His only flaw was that he sometimes misjudged people.
In their past lives, Gu Shi’an was betrayed and gravely wounded, and Yun Xi had stumbled upon him.
It was during the most dangerous nighttime in the wilderness, and Gu Shi’an was lying there, waiting to die.
Yun Xi hadn’t intended to help—but the despair in his eyes stopped her in her tracks.
It reminded her of herself.
Yes—she too had been betrayed.
Back then, she had just become a spellcaster and had teamed up with a temporary companion for a standard group quest.
But midway through, they triggered a special quest.
Greed took over. Her teammate, coveting the rare rewards, stabbed her in the back and left her surrounded by monsters.
Though Yun Xi had been wary, she was too weak at the time. Facing betrayal, she had no good countermeasures.
All she could do was fight with her life on the line, cutting a path of blood to escape. In the end, she collapsed just a kilometer outside town. If the patrol team hadn’t found her then, she would’ve died for sure.
Naturally, Yun Xi took revenge later.
And Gu Shi’an’s expression at that time struck a chord in her. So she saved him.
At the edge of despair, Yun Xi brought him back from the brink. When his wounds were healed, Gu Shi’an nearly cried.

Hmm…I’m surprised she isn’t connecting the dots when she already learned how they interacted in this new timeline, yet he “suddenly” sold everything off conveniently around the same time she was reborn and the game was about to start. He kindly tells her to register and offers assistance. I mean, come on. I can understand questioning everything, but their interactions earlier in this timeline become pretty irelevant because she knows his character.
I would not be surprised if he somehow came back with her after she died.
I like the slow development so far. I like romance, but this pacing is good for this type of story.
