Chapter 039: Invitation

[Yun Mei: Dad, please don’t say any more. I’ll think about it myself.]

While Yun Hu and Yun Mei were going back and forth in the group chat, Liu Yue’e remained silent—she was most likely discussing things privately with Yun Hai.

Yun Xi also didn’t participate in the group conversation. Ever since the open beta began, she’d kept a very strict daily routine.

She logged in at set times, cultivated at home in Qinglan Town, logged out to eat and sleep on Bluestar, and regularly cast Light Shielding on herself.

As of now, it had been over a month since she learned Light Shielding. The accumulated shield HP on her body had already surpassed 10,000. Compared to her current base HP of 190, that extra shield was like having 52 extra lives.

Aside from this fixed routine, a clerk from the official bookstore in Qinglan Town also sent her daily messages to inform her about newly available books.

Yun Xi accepted everything—as long as it was useful, whether prescriptions or recipes, she bought it.

Her plan was to finish learning the remaining beginner spells, then begin going out during the day to hunt monsters and level up, while using her spare time to practice various side professions.

She wanted to hone her cooking skills before Divinefall Continent officially began its invasion of Bluestar, so she wouldn’t have to spend a fortune buying overpriced, tasteless but pollution-free food from there.

She also didn’t want to neglect the apothecary profession—having the ability to concoct medicine had always been one of her dreams in her past life.

Back then, knowledge was too expensive, and she had no conditions to study it.

Now, although she practically had “infinite currency” and could buy endless potions, being an apothecary was a true survival skill.

Once mastered, it would always be an asset, never a loss.

After Appraisal and Fireball, Yun Xi had five remaining beginner spells to learn:

  • Counterattack
  • Healing
  • Bind
  • Purification
  • Wishing

She had already reviewed the spell patterns of all five.

Among them, Wishing was the most complex—its spell pattern was almost ten times harder to outline than Light Shielding.

In other words, based on her earlier mental attributes, it would have taken her at least 10 months to learn Wishing.

Even though her mental stats had improved, the learning time wouldn’t shrink much—it would still take a few months to master it.

So, Yun Xi put Wishing last on her list.

By contrast, Counterattack was about the same difficulty as Light Shielding.

The other three spells—Healing, Bind, and Purification—were much simpler.

Yun Xi planned to learn these three within a month.

However, on the ninth day of the open beta, just as she was about to power through and master Healing, a knock sounded downstairs.

The visitor was polite, knocking gently and rhythmically—but having her study interrupted still annoyed Yun Xi.

To avoid further disturbances, she paused her progress and went downstairs to open the door.

At the entrance stood a refined-looking middle-aged man in elegant black robes, a polite smile on his lips.

He gave a respectful bow and said,

“Good day, Miss. I am the steward of the Tur family.”

“Hello, is there something you need?”
Yun Xi asked, confused—she didn’t know anyone named Tur.

Noticing her genuine puzzlement, the man’s expression stiffened slightly.

“Miss, the Tur family is your neighbor,” he said, pointing to the large house not far to the right.

Though both were on Feilan Street, a luxury residential area, the Tur family’s estate was at least ten times the size of Yun Xi’s small villa.

“Sorry, I’ve been quite busy lately. I haven’t had time to learn about my neighbors,” she said. Since the other party came in person, she couldn’t just slam the door in his face.

“So, what brings you here?”

“The Tur family is hosting a gathering tomorrow,” he explained, “and there will be a small private auction held during the event. We would be honored if you would join us.”

As he spoke, he handed her a formal invitation letter.

“If you’re interested, we look forward to welcoming you tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.”

Yun Xi wasn’t interested in noble gatherings, but a small auction definitely piqued her curiosity.

The only issue was—if she spent big at a public auction, it might draw unwanted attention.

As if he could read her mind, the man added with a smile,

“Of course, if you prefer not to participate in the auction, attending the gathering alone to meet new people is also a good option, wouldn’t you agree?”

Yun Xi understood what he meant. They simply wanted her to show her face. Clearly, the neighbors on Feilan Street had been curious about her for a long time.

If she didn’t attend, it might leave the impression that she was timid or antisocial.

“Alright, I’ll be there on time.”
She accepted the invitation.

The steward smiled again, bowed, and took his leave.

Yun Xi wasn’t particularly worried about attending a gathering on Feilan Street.

For one, she already had the Black Mist Stone earrings, which protected her from any detection methods below legendary rank. Qinglan Town’s security patrols also weren’t to be underestimated.

No one dared to commit crimes openly in the town, unless they wanted to face punishments far worse than public humiliation.

She had spent a full 10,000 gold coins to buy this expensive property on Feilan Street because of the security guarantees written in the purchase contract.

Qinglan Town’s officials had promised to do everything they could to keep her safe while she resided there.

So even if the local bigshots wanted to try something, they’d have to think carefully whether they could withstand the town’s full protection enforcement.

This so-called “full protection” meant no room for negligence—the officials were obligated to defend her within their capacity without fail.

Of course, she wasn’t the only one. All buyers on Feilan Street and several other high-end areas had these security clauses in their contracts.

With the system as the supervisor, even Qinglan Town’s wealthy officials couldn’t afford to break the rules—not even a few times.

A couple of breaches would cost them astronomical compensation that could bankrupt the entire town.

Her neighbors were likely just curious about her. If this invitation didn’t work, there’d surely be another. So Yun Xi figured she might as well meet them—and hopefully be left in peace afterward.

Returning to her study, she resumed tracing the spell pattern for Healing.

Her train of thought had been interrupted, and now she’d need to invest extra time to finish what she started.

By the following afternoon, after several trials, Yun Xi finally mastered the Healing spell.

[Beginner Healing Lv1: Consumes 10–100 energy. Summons a healing light orb that restores 52–142 (based on Spirit × Skill Level + Energy Spent) HP to a target.]
