Chapter 047: Mark
At the very least, up to this point, the Hua Nation’s government had never given up on a single citizen.
Even for those “tourist log-in players” who had essentially been abandoned by themselves, the Hua Nation still did its best to provide solutions without turning a blind eye to their difficult situations.
When the official recruitment announcement was released, many people were stunned.
[Is this for real? Does that mean I can apply too? My wife just said my cooking was amazing!]
[Sure you can—if you’re already an official spellcaster. Only spellcasters can channel spiritual energy to make dishes with special effects.]
[Ah, no chance then. I thought being good at cooking would be enough. Too bad my Spirit stat is only 2. Sigh.]
[Only 2 Spirit? That’s way too low! Even my daughter in kindergarten has 3 points. She’ll probably have at least 7 when she grows up.]
[Get lost, no need to show off.]
[To the one with 2 Spirit, don’t give up! You’ll get to allocate stat points after leveling up. The most important thing now is to get stronger.]
[I’m a college student, an official spellcaster, majoring in clinical medicine. Do I qualify for the recruitment?]
[Clinical medicine and pharmacy aren’t exactly related. You should ask the officials directly.]
[Ugh, probably not. If I’d studied traditional medicine instead, I’d definitely qualify.]
…
Yun Xi stopped reading the various online discussions and went back to focusing on her real work—learning Immobilization Spell and Counterattack Spell.
The Immobilization Spell had spell patterns about as complex as the Healing Spell, and she estimated it would take her around ten days to learn.
But the Counterattack Spell was a different story. Like Radiant Ward, it was a long-lost Light-type spell, making it much more difficult to learn.
Over the next stretch of time, Yun Xi powered through and mastered both spells together. The whole process took a month and a half.
[Beginner Counterattack Spell Lv1]:
Consumes 10–100 spiritual energy to conjure a Counterattack Light Barrier.
It can reflect up to 52–142 damage (based on Spirit × Skill Level + consumed spiritual energy).
Can be permanently and infinitely stacked.
Cooldown: 4 hours
[Beginner Immobilization Spell Lv1]:
Consumes 10–100 spiritual energy to immobilize all lifeforms in range.
The success rate and duration are determined by the caster’s Spirit stat and amount of spiritual energy consumed.
Like Radiant Ward, the Counterattack Spell could stack indefinitely.
Yun Xi couldn’t help but marvel at how overpowered these two spells were.
At present, her Radiant Ward’s stacked light shield had reached around 24,000 points.
That was comparable to the HP of a high-tier warrior.
A Level 30 high-tier warrior typically had Constitution between 60–100, boosted by both manual stat allocation and rare treasures.
Their HP = Constitution × 1,000 = 60,000 to 100,000.
A Level 20 mid-tier warrior usually had Constitution between 40–60, giving them 4,000 to 6,000 HP.
Yun Xi’s shield might not rival high-tier warriors, but it was far stronger than most mid-tier warriors.
And the Counterattack Spell, being both a defensive and damage-reflecting spell, was arguably even better than Radiant Ward—though it came with double the cooldown.
In practical terms:
With half a month left before the Statue of Liberty mission, Yun Xi had now completed all planned combat spells.
All that remained was—leveling up and changing to a mid-tier spellcaster!
Two months later, Yun Xi once again went on a shopping spree across the major local stores, especially clearing out all consumable resources.
She also made a trip to the enchantment jewelry store, handing over 100 green crystal stones to Yu Nanfēi.
“Didn’t we agree you’d pay me in a month? What took you so long?” Yu Nanfēi glanced at her, his tone always calm and flat.
“Something came up, sorry.” Yun Xi had been intensely focused on learning the Counterattack Spell at the one-month mark, mentally stretched to the limit, and completely forgot about him.
“…Fine. Here’s your item.” Yu Nanfēi handed over a small brocade box.
Yun Xi opened it—inside was a black mist stone earring, identical in appearance to the anti-detection equipment… a perfect pair.
[Black Mist Stone Earring (High-grade)]:
Grants Lv30 Spell: Information Extraction.
When cast on a lifeform or object, it randomly extracts one piece of hint information.
Must be charged before use.
Consumes 10–30,000 spiritual energy per use; the success rate is affected by energy used and target level.
Information Extraction?
Yet another unfamiliar and intriguing spell.
But…
“This detection tool only gives random information?” Yun Xi asked.
“If you’re willing to spend enough to charge it, you’ll get key information,” Yu Nanfēi replied.
Yun Xi understood—yet another money-guzzling tool.
Maximum cost of 30,000 spiritual energy—the equivalent of three green crystals worth of energy.
No wonder Yu Nanfēi was constantly short on money. If not for her own treasure stash, she’d be broke too.
What surprised Yun Xi most was that this spell was actually Level 30.
Lv21–30 was the range for high-tier professions.
Originally, she thought with her discounted price of 100 green crystals, Yu Nanfēi might craft her something around Lv25.
She hadn’t expected him to go all out.
This also revealed his strength—at least a Lv30 high-tier spellcaster…
“By the way, do you want this trinket? Made it from leftover materials,” Yu Nanfēi said, pulling out a water-drop shaped pendant and handing it over.
[White Crystal Pendant (Low-grade)]:
Detects the density of eerie energy in the air.
The darker the color, the higher the eerie concentration.
Note: Can detect eerie energy up to Lv10.
Yun Xi’s eyes lit up. This pendant was perfect for her—useful for tracking eerie creatures while leveling in the wild.
“How much?”
“No need. It’s a gift. Just focus on leveling and try to complete that mission. Think of it as repaying me.”
“Why do you have so much confidence in me?” Yun Xi asked, surprised.
“To be honest, I have a passive piece of equipment that lets me sense hidden information. For example… you have a mark on you left by a being even more powerful than the Statue of Liberty.”
Yun Xi’s heart tensed.
An ancient god-race mark?
No… if it’s “a higher-level existence” than the Statue of Liberty…
Then the ancient gods must all be long dead.
