For the time being, I cast 【Prayer】 on our group as well.
The next step was deciding the right moment to intervene in the battle.
The Boss Monkey had been targeting Alec exclusively for a while now.
This was probably due to the effect of 【Red Shield】 and Alec’s skillful maneuvering to remain directly in front of it.
Even so, it occasionally glanced at both Zighart and me.
For Zighart, it was likely because of his sheer strength; in my case… did it think I was some kind of strange creature?
Among us, August was the one it was least wary of.
He seemed poised to deliver the finishing blow, which was actually a welcome development.
Still… a gorilla baring its fangs is one terrifying sight…
Thanks to Zighart’s lighting magic scattered here and there, the Boss Monkey’s fearsome face was clearly visible.
While they threw their lighting onto the ground, we set ours atop earthen pillars, creating an ambiance somewhat like indirect lighting—it was oddly stylish.
I moved wide and around to avoid its gaze whenever it looked my way.
While Alec’s focus on drawing its attention helped, the moment I stepped out of the illuminated area, it lost interest in me.
Could this actually work?
That was my thought… but I might have been a bit naive.
I had successfully moved behind the Boss Monkey, but now what?
I was currently suspended at a height of about 5 meters.
While I was out of its attack range, the Boss Monkey’s movements were chaotic and intense.
From a distance, I hadn’t noticed how much it moved around.
Though Alec was doing an excellent job keeping its attention from the front, landing an arrow shot seemed nearly impossible.
This left close-range combat as my only option.
“Now then, when do I make my move…?”
At the moment, I had deactivated both 【Fairy’s Eyes】 and the serpent vision.
The Boss Monkey hadn’t roared since that initial time, but even from a great distance, I’d felt a significant impact.
At this range, I had no idea what might happen, so I decided to rely solely on my own vision for the first time in a long while.
The dungeon’s natural light, combined with Zighart’s illumination, made it not particularly bright but still sufficient for visibility.
I could clearly see the battle between the Boss Monkey and Alec unfolding below, as well as the surrounding area.
But… it’s terrifying.
I’ve been dependent on my enhanced senses for so long…
“Ugh… was that my chance just now?”
Just moments ago, Alec had deflected the Boss Monkey’s right-arm swing with his shield.
Meanwhile, August had slashed at its left leg.
Watching from above, I noticed there was a slight pause in the Boss Monkey’s movement when Alec deflected its attack.
I could see it, but I couldn’t bring myself to act.
If there was something lurking in the shadows or behind it, I’d never notice…
“Ugh…”
My eyes met Alec’s.
He nodded at me… was he telling me to go?
…Alright.
There’s no point in hesitating here. I’ll move on the next opportunity.
Decision made. I’ll charge in on the next move!
◇
“Haah!!”
The Boss Monkey swung its left arm like a lariat, but Alec caught it with his shield held in both hands, slamming it downward.
Instead of deflecting it upward or to the side as before, he stopped it dead in its tracks.
If it were a bipedal creature, this would have thrown it off balance, forcing it to pitch forward. Unfortunately, the Boss Monkey wasn’t quite so accommodating.
Still, its focus shifted forward, increasing the chance of my sneak attack succeeding.
Good work, Alec!
“Alright, let’s go!”
I seized the moment to launch my attack as planned.
From my position, I couldn’t see August because the Boss Monkey’s body blocked my view.
But I trusted he would coordinate with me.
Using 【Ankle Bracelet】, I gripped the shoulder blade area, aimed carefully, and delivered a kick to the back of its head… or so I thought.
“Huh?”
Even with the acceleration provided by 【Floating Orb】, the kick—which was closer to a body slam—had no noticeable effect.
Despite the awkward posture, the kick should’ve been powerful enough, but it seemed to have no impact at all.
I had anticipated this turn ending with August finishing it off, after which we’d pummel it into submission… but now…
“Wah!?”
Suddenly, a massive arm reached behind its back. Startled, I used the momentum from my kick to quickly withdraw.
That… was terrifying.
The arm didn’t quite reach where I had been, likely due to its anatomy.
Still, catching a glimpse of that log-like arm creeping into my peripheral vision gave me a fright.
Even so… this is troublesome.
I had considered the possibility of using 【Shadow Sword】, but its short blade wouldn’t inflict much damage unless I was pressed right against the Boss Monkey.
And that thought alone was terrifying.
Zighart was scattering weaker spells to keep it in check, perhaps to buy time for us to regroup.
Maybe I should fall back and get further instructions.
As I hesitated momentarily, pondering my next move, I felt a shadow fall over me.
Though there was light around, it was odd to see a shadow forming above me in mid-air.
Looking up…
“Huh? What the—woaaaah!?”
