After Seriana finished painting the nails on my hands, she moved on to my toenails.
With practiced ease, she cleaned them off and began applying the same color of polish as the manicure. Then, as she grabbed my foot, she gave it a firm twist so that the sole was clearly visible.
“…That hurts, you know?”
It wasn’t unbearable, but if she twisted it a bit more, it might get dangerous.
However, she didn’t seem to hear my protest. She reached for my other foot and gave it the same twist.
Then, she started squishing the soles with her fingers…
“…You barely use your feet, don’t you?”
“Nngh…”
Just like Seriana said, I hardly ever walk.
It’s true that the soles of my feet are probably quite soft.
“While we’re at it, refrain from using the 【Floating Orb】 for a while too.”
“Nngh… Roger that.”
I don’t walk, but I do get some physical activity in when I go hunting.
Still, until the pouch I left at Rob’s shop comes back, I’m on break from hunting.
I’ll only be going between this room, Liesel’s office, the dining hall, and maybe the kitchen now and then. That’ll mean wandering around the first and second floors of both the main building and the south wing.
If I think of it as substitute exercise while I’m on a hunting break, maybe it’s enough?
…But still.
This mansion is huge.
And it’s not just this mansion, but the stairs are steep—each step is tall, and going up and down is kind of a pain…
Now that my own room is finally ready, maybe I should just hole up in there…
Muttering “nunununuuu…” with a hand on my chin, lost in such thoughts, I sensed a gaze and looked up. There I found Seriana’s face, staring at me with half-lidded, unimpressed eyes.
“…I’ll walk properly, okay?”
“Good.”
Apparently satisfied with my response, Seriana took my foot again and resumed painting my nails.
Mmm… she’s totally reading me.
◇
As usual, the two of us chatted while waiting for the room preparations to finish, but once the pedicure was done and cleaned up, we found ourselves at a bit of a loss.
Like this room, my room’s door was a double swing type—what people in my previous life might call “French doors.”
Though larger than a typical household door from my old world, most rooms in this mansion had single doors. Exceptions were rooms like Liesel’s office or work-related areas—besides those, only Seriana’s room, Alec’s private room, and now mine had doors like these.
Even in my previous life, things with standardized dimensions like doors and bathtubs could stand out if they deviated from the norm. They just had an extra touch of luxury.
We both stared at that grand-looking door.
“…Still not done yet?”
“Yeah.”
Maybe it was well soundproofed, but despite the fact that they must be moving fairly large furniture inside, not a sound came through the door. We had no idea what was going on inside.
It must have been about 30 minutes by now…
If I activated 【Fairy Eyes】 or used Akame and the others’ vision, I could probably see what kind of work they were doing right now… but using that kind of power just to check on room remodeling progress feels a bit like peeking, and I’d rather not.
“Want to go take a look?”
Why are we just sitting here waiting when we’re clearly curious about what’s happening inside?
Seriana might have been thinking the same thing.
Normally she would’ve answered instantly, but this time she looked at me and seemed to hesitate.
“Hmm… We might be more helpful if we went in—huh?”
Curiosity seemed to win out in the end.
Seriana stood up as if to head toward the room, but then let out a small sound and looked toward the door.
Drawn by her reaction, I turned to look as well, and saw the door slowly opening from the inside.
“Thank you for waiting.”
It was Teresa who stepped out.
Only one side of the double door had opened, so we couldn’t see inside yet. Her hair, which she’d had down before the work began, was now up in a bun.
Nothing else seemed different, but maybe things had gotten pretty intense in there…
“The room is ready. Please, come on in.”
“Okay!”
Even if we had to wait, we’d finally get to see the inside.
Let’s go in!
I eagerly hopped off the sofa and leapt onto the 【Floating Orb】 that had been rolling at my feet.
With a whoosh, I floated upward—but…
“Sera.”
“Huh?”
Seriana’s voice called out. When I turned around, she was pointing at the doorway with an exasperated look.
Huh…? Oh—right. I’d just said I wouldn’t be using the 【Floating Orb】 for a while.
“…Forget that happened.”
I got off the 【Floating Orb】 and headed to the door.
This room had a no-shoes policy.
There was a space by the door to change shoes, with indoor slippers prepared not only for guests but also for regular occupants of the room.
Naturally, they had a pair for me too.
Though usually, since I float in the air and only really come down when I sit, I almost never wear them.
Oops, my bad.
“Alrighty… All set! Sorry to keep you waiting!”
The indoor slippers had leather soles but were otherwise made of thick, soft fabric.
I put on the unusually small pair meant for me, turned around, and saw Seriana sighing with one hand on her hip and the other to her forehead. Teresa, who hadn’t been there when we talked about the 【Floating Orb】, was giving me a knowing smile, as if she understood exactly what had just happened.
