“Thank you for coming today.”
With those words, a group of merchants and tailors entered the lounge on the first floor of the women’s building in a steady stream.
Behind them, attendants carrying boxes filled with tools and supplies followed inside.
It’s early in the morning, yet they’re already hard at work. That’s admirable.
All the merchants and tailors were women, which reminded me of when I had clothes tailored in Riana’s domain capital.
Back then too, female craftsmen came, including the head of the workshop who managed them all. It had been a busy scene.
However, today’s just the final fitting, so there shouldn’t be that much to do… maybe they’re here for greetings?
In any case, once I finished changing into my clothes and was ready, the work began.
◇
The outfit I’m wearing for this procedure at the castle is formal—or rather, ceremonial—and apparently, the basic design is set depending on one’s rank, title, and gender.
Since it’s worn during gatherings at the castle, it would look sloppy if everyone wore something completely different.
But that doesn’t mean everyone wears the exact same thing. They express differences through decorative elements.
And those decorations aren’t prepared in Riana’s domain but here instead, which is why the finishing work is being done in the royal capital.
The order for the outfit was placed by Seriana, and she was involved in the design, so she probably knows all the details. I’ve only heard descriptions of it, so today will be my first time actually seeing it.
Incidentally, I just finished the first fitting, but it seems the waist needs to be taken in a little, so the craftsmen are making preparations for that now.
With clothes that take a long time to complete, it’s expected that the wearer’s body might change a bit.
Especially in my case, I’m still growing.
In fact, I’ve gotten a little taller… but apparently not any broader.
Well, that’s fine!
“It kind of looks similar, but when you look closely, there are a lot of differences.”
I sat next to Seriana and spoke to her.
“Yes. The outfit we had made for you before was deliberately designed differently so it wouldn’t be confused with this one.”
“Huh…”
Previously, I visited the castle to meet the Queen and the others, and for that occasion, I had a uniform-like outfit tailored.
I jokingly called it cosplay or a knockoff, but it was by no means cheaply made—it was so well-crafted that it felt wasteful to have only worn it once.
That outfit is now displayed in my room at the mansion in the domain capital. Laid out on the table here, my new outfit resembles it in some ways but also has clear differences.
The craftsmen carefully explained the changes they made here in the royal capital, but honestly, I can’t tell the difference in things like the material of the buttons or embroidery thread.
If it were materials used in armor, I’d have some knowledge, but fashionable materials… not so much.
Still, putting that aside, the design is another matter.
Slim white pants, a blue shirt, and a black jacket embroidered in various places that buttons snugly up to the neck—it’s a three-piece suit.
The jacket is the standout difference.
The cosplay version was made of red fabric and only came down to the waist, but this one is long enough to fully cover the butt.
It’s more like a half-coat than a jacket.
The vibe is somewhat similar, but the difference is obvious at a glance.
I think it was the same with my old job’s security uniform—if it looked too much like a police uniform, that was a no-go, right?
This is probably a similar situation.
“Sera-sama, may I have you try it on again?”
“Sure, sure.”
While nodding at Seriana’s explanation, I was asked to try it on again—seems the adjustment work was finished.
◇
After completing the second fitting and confirming that the size was now correct, the craftsmen quickly did the final finishing touches.
Once I put the completed outfit on, I added a blue and red cape embroidered with the crests of the Müller and Lyseria families over my shoulders.
Then I put on the boots.
The soles are thick and a little hard to walk in… but I’ll manage somehow.
I might also need to get my hair styled or have some makeup done on the actual day, but for now, I guess my formal outfit is complete.
“What do you think?”
I spread my arms and showed Seriana.
Personally, I think the contrast between the black and white formal suit and the vivid red and blue cape is well-balanced… but that’s just my taste.
I wonder how it looks from a noble’s perspective?
“…Not bad.”
“Thank you. Then I’ll consider it ready to be delivered.”
Seriana gave me a once-over, slowly scanning from top to bottom, before murmuring those words.
Her “not bad” is actually a sign of high praise.
Apparently, this outfit is good enough to satisfy even her standards.
The merchants and craftsmen—though they probably don’t know about her peculiarities—also seemed to show subtle expressions of relief.
Maybe you acquire that kind of reading skill when dealing with nobles.
As I thought about that, I looked at my reflection in the mirror.
Mm.
Not bad at all.
