Chapter 31
Youyi had seen various confession scenarios before, but the one with Du Li was the most awkward for her. She didn’t like to bring it up. During high school in the science class, which had fewer girls, her desk mate, a physics genius, told her he wanted to attend the same university as her.
Their academic performance was similar, so it was highly likely they would attend the same university. However, Youyi ended up in the medical department at Shenglin University, while he went to a northern city.
During winter break in the first year, she ran into him again. He said that if they couldn’t attend the same university, he would come to her city for her graduate studies.
Youyi didn’t want such a compromise. It made her feel that giving up her future and dreams for someone else was not a healthy affection.
So she told him to go where he wanted and not to feel the need to follow her.
She wasn’t that great or important.
Earlier this year, he sent her a WeChat message saying he had found someone else he liked and was pursuing her.
He mentioned it to Youyi because he said that what was great about her was that she didn’t even realize how wonderful she was.
A girl who was as gentle, kind, and beautiful as her, who treated everyone well, was the most amazing treasure he had ever met.
So, he decided to let her know he no longer liked her, and he would do so properly.
Now, the scene in front of Youyi felt strangely familiar.
After hearing her response, Wei Jing seemed to take a long time to adjust his disappointed mood. Then he asked cautiously, “So… did my words cause you any trouble?”
Wei Jing was sad that she liked someone else, but he wondered if his words had caused her any inconvenience.
If he had known earlier, he wouldn’t have said anything.
“No,” Huang Youyi replied, stepping forward. “The person she likes isn’t here.”
If it hadn’t been for her intense focus on roasting chicken legs, Huang Youyi would have stopped him. In front of so many classmates, such a thing was indeed quite awkward.
Moreover, Wei Jing wasn’t like Du Li. Being rejected in front of so many people would surely be very upsetting for him.
Youyi glanced back and didn’t see Fu Cheng, but his car was still parked there.
So she tugged on Huang Youyi’s hand and whispered, “He’s here.”
Huang Youyi was stunned.
Following Youyi’s gaze, she felt a chill down her spine.
The last time she saw Fu Cheng was at the training base. After the stance training ended, she breathed a sigh of relief, glad to escape from such an oppressive environment.
“Really?” Huang Youyi still couldn’t believe it.
Youyi pointed to the coat she was wearing.
When she arrived, she was only wearing a dress, but after going out for a while and coming back, she had this coat. It could only be from Fu Cheng.
Originally, she had thought of inviting Fu Cheng to her birthday party, but she reconsidered and decided against it. She wasn’t mentally prepared for it.
Huang Youyi smiled awkwardly.
She wanted to smooth things over but was too scared to speak. She turned away and pretended not to know.
Huang Youyi handed a chicken leg to Wei Jing and tried to smooth things over, “Here, have a leg.”
Wei Jing took it and said blankly, “Thank you.”
As the class dispersed, the earlier commotion died down. Everyone felt a bit embarrassed and chose to ignore what had happened.
It was as if no one knew anything.
As the event was ending, people gradually left. Some stopped Youyi to ask who she liked.
The top student from the nuclear engineering department had pursued her, and senior Du Li had chased her for half a year. Now, Wei Jing from the same class had confessed to her. She didn’t accept any of them, and now it was said that she had someone she liked.
Since Youyi and her are so close, people assumed she would know.
Huang Youyi frowned, waved her hand, and finally said, “You shouldn’t pry into such matters.”
“There will be times when you’ll know.”
*
Fu Cheng had not left.
As Youyi left the campsite, she saw his car had moved a bit forward. She jogged over and opened the door. He was sitting there waiting.
Youyi asked, “Why haven’t you left?”
Fu Cheng replied, “Since I’m already here, I’ll wait for you.”
He extended his hand to her. “Get in.”
Youyi hesitated for a moment.
She looked at Fu Cheng’s face, which seemed normal. He probably didn’t mind what had happened with Wei Jing.
Fu Cheng was very tolerant of her. Youyi thought that even though he must have heard what happened earlier, he probably didn’t care.
And it wasn’t really an important matter, right?
It was just a confession, and she had clearly rejected him.
Wei Jing wasn’t like Du Li. They would continue to be classmates and friends.
“What’s for dinner?” As expected, Fu Cheng didn’t ask her.
“I had two roasted chicken legs, two grilled sausages, and several salt-baked potatoes for lunch.”
These were all quite salty, leaving a heavy taste in her mouth and making her crave water.
Youyi said, “Let’s have something light for dinner.”
Fu Cheng thought for a moment. “How about I make you a bowl of tomato and egg noodle soup?”
Youyi replied, “Sounds good.”
When they got home, Fu Cheng started cooking the noodles.
They cooked at home half of the time. The kitchen had recently been stocked with many new items, including an extra pot and a variety of ingredients like rice, eggs, and vegetables, all of which were kept in the fridge.
Youyi liked sweet flavors, so Fu Cheng added extra sugar to the scrambled eggs with tomatoes and topped the noodle soup with a fried egg.
He made a bowl for himself as well.
Youyi bowed her head and ate the noodles.
Fu Cheng hadn’t touched his bowl yet. He asked, “Have you finished tidying everything up?”
Youyi nodded. “Almost.”
The lease on the house had ended after three months, and it was expiring at the end of the month. Youyi had already moved everything out and cleaned up.
Fu Cheng asked, “Is there anything else you need to buy?”
Youyi replied, “We’ll buy things gradually.”
You only find out what’s missing after you start living in a place. Things get added bit by bit, and the longer you live there, the more it accumulates.
Fu Cheng nodded. “If you need anything, you can buy it yourself.”
After a pause, he took out a bank card from his pocket.
“Feel free to use this.”
Youyi had a mouthful of noodles and paused when she saw the words “Construction Bank” on the card. She asked, “Is this your secondary card?”
Fu Cheng shook his head. “No.”
“It’s the primary card.”
After starting her sophomore year, her family had almost stopped giving her living expenses. On one hand, she had scholarships, and on the other, she had accumulated a considerable amount of money from her New Year’s gifts and scholarships over the years. Her parents told her to use that money.
Youyi didn’t spend much money. She didn’t have any large expenses, just the usual student costs—eating at the cafeteria, occasionally dining out, and buying shoes, cosmetics, and clothes each month.
The money was enough for her until graduation.
She had never considered spending money from anyone other than her parents.
Youyi felt a bit uneasy. “Is there a lot of money on it?”
Fu Cheng replied, “Not too much.”
— “It’s all my savings from these years.”
Youyi was taken aback.
All of Fu Cheng’s savings.
During his years in the military, he had little to spend, so he probably saved up a lot. Now that he has his own company, his income should be decent too.
For instance, this house, including the renovation, must have cost over three million.
Youyi couldn’t even guess how much was left on his card.
Was he implying that he was giving her all his money?
But she never asked for his money.
Fu Cheng said, “Everything I have is yours.”
He meant that this card would be hers from now on.
All his savings were hers.
Seeing that she didn’t take it, Fu Cheng’s eyes darkened slightly. “Take it and keep it safe, so you don’t lose it.”
Youyi agreed and took the card.
The hard edge of the card felt a bit uncomfortable in her hand. She held it and paused, saying, “Then I’ll tell you if I need to buy anything.”
Small purchases might be fine, but for larger ones, they should discuss it since the house belonged to both of them.
Fu Cheng looked at her again but said nothing.
He had told her to spend freely, but Youyi found it difficult to spend someone else’s money without feeling guilty.
So, she decided to discuss it with him. She would manage as she got used to it.
After finishing the noodles, Youyi took a hot shower. The cold air outside made her feel the warmth of the water even more. As the hot water poured down from her head, it wrapped her in warmth, making her blood flow more freely.
It felt so good.
Even her scalp was comfortably warm.
Youyi had been in the shower for a while, nearly half an hour. When she opened the door, the bathroom was filled with steam, almost like stepping into a paradise.
Fu Cheng was sitting on the sofa. When he saw her come out, he looked up.
Youyi had changed into a long nightgown that reached her ankles. Her hair was wrapped in a drying cap, and her neck was smooth and white. As she emerged, she exuded a mix of warmth and fragrance.
Youyi asked, “Are you going to shower?”
Fu Cheng replied, “Not yet.”
He sat upright, his gaze cold and probing. There was a hint of fierceness in his eyes, making her feel uneasy.
Even from a few meters away, Youyi felt nervous, and her thighs felt inexplicably weak.
“Come here,” Fu Cheng said.
Those two words from Fu Cheng signaled danger. Although his expression was neutral, the hidden threat beneath those words was intense.
Youyi lowered her head, hesitated for two seconds, and walked over to him.
When she stood next to him, Fu Cheng merely watched her without saying anything further.
In the past, when he called her over, he would always pull her onto his lap.
Youyi’s nose wrinkled. She reached out to him and said, “Fu Cheng…”
She was being a bit spoiled.
She could be more affectionate.
Seeing that Fu Cheng didn’t respond, Youyi took another step forward. “Husband.”
Only then did Fu Cheng pull her into his embrace.
Freshly showered, her skin was smooth and warm to the touch, her body still feeling the heat from the water.
Fu Cheng asked, “Do you need your husband to take care of you?”
Youyi shook her head.
“No.”
Fu Cheng’s fingers brushed over her lips, pressing down on her soft, pink lips. It felt like there was a current running through his fingers, spreading from her lips downwards. His deep voice asked, “Why do so many people like you?”
Is it really so easy to attract people?
It seemed that every time someone came along, they ended up confessing to her.
Youyi shivered slightly, realizing that Fu Cheng was bringing up the incident from the afternoon. She had a vague sense that it wouldn’t end well and cautiously asked, “Do you… mind?”
Fu Cheng responded, “He confessed to my wife. Do you think I mind?”
That kid, Wei Jing, had never liked him at the training base. He always secretly spoke to her, followed her around, and was more attentive than anyone else.
If it hadn’t been for today’s incident, he might never have known.
Fu Cheng suddenly pressed down hard on the back of her neck, causing Youyi to almost cry out. She clamped her mouth shut and endured it. Then, she heard him coldly say, “Running two laps seems like too little punishment for him.”
