Gentle Training for the Wild Chapter 45

Chapter 45

It was around ten o’clock the next morning when Youyi called Fu Cheng again.

She had messaged him at ten, asking if he could take a call. After Fu Cheng replied “Yes,” she made the call.

“Do you miss me?” Fu Cheng asked.

It hadn’t been that long, in fact, not even twenty-four hours.

“Yes,” Youyi answered.

Standing at the corner of the stairs, with a large glass window in front of her, looking down at the parking lot on the thirteenth floor where cars were neatly lined up, she stood there, her gaze unconsciously fixed below.

“I was just scolded by a patient’s family member,” Youyi said, feeling down, which was why she called Fu Cheng. She had subconsciously come to rely on him. With Fu Cheng, she felt protected, which reassured her greatly.

“What happened?” Fu Cheng asked.

Youyi explained, “The patient’s husband wanted to add me on WeChat to understand the condition. I explained that he could come to the office anytime for information. He didn’t listen and got angrier, escalating it to a question of medical ethics, calling me an incompetent doctor.”

He said many unpleasant things, but Youyi didn’t repeat them. Such uncouth remarks weren’t worth her recalling in any way.

Youyi knew why he wanted to add her on WeChat and why he became furious after being refused.

It was rather ironic.

The patient was his wife, who had been admitted with high fever and had been delirious, with low blood pressure and in a critical state. At such a time, her husband was still arguing about adding her on WeChat.

Her senior came out to help, saying that as her student, she wasn’t responsible for explaining the condition, and if there were any objections, he could address them with her.

Her senior was gentle and graceful, having dealt with such matters frequently, so she was particularly firm in her response.

It wasn’t that Youyi was upset. It was more that she felt a deep discomfort and disgust.

To ask someone for their WeChat right in front of his wife, especially when she was in such a dangerous condition, was truly disgusting.

Fu Cheng listened to her, and after she finished, he simply encouraged her, saying, “You did really well, baby.”

Fu Cheng knew that while Youyi might appear fragile and in need of his protection, providing her with a safe harbor, she had the ability to handle and resolve issues on her own.

He knew she was capable, and she could handle things herself.

He could ensure her safety but could never manage everything for her.

But he fully trusted her ability to deal with these situations.

He wouldn’t let her worry too much.

Youyi nodded on her end of the call.

“Actually, I was just thinking how lucky I am to have such a wonderful husband.”

That was the real reason Youyi had called him.

Fu Cheng seemed to have laughed softly on the other end of the line.

His laughter was very low and fleeting but was still clearly audible to Youyi. Her lips couldn’t help but curve into a smile as she wondered what Fu Cheng looked like when he laughed.

He rarely smiled, but when he did, the corners of his eyes would lift slightly.

Youyi felt a bit regretful not seeing him smile in person.

She wanted to see every expression of his smile.

Youyi looked down at the ring on her finger.

After starting her clinical rotations, she rarely wore her ring when going out because sometimes she needed to perform procedures or examinations, and wearing the ring was inconvenient.

Also, there were many bacteria and viruses in the hospital, and she didn’t want to constantly disinfect when she got home.

As the call was about to end, Youyi stepped into the stairwell, instinctively holding her breath and listening to the surrounding sounds.

The stairwell was rarely frequented; in high-rise buildings like this, people mostly crowd the elevators.

So, it was very quiet here.

The only sounds were her occasional soft breaths and the subtle rustling of her clothes brushing against each other. Youyi lowered her eyes and quietly reminded him, “Remember to buy it when you come back.”

Fu Cheng asked, “Buy what?”

She knew he was intentionally asking this. Not responding to his question directly, she lowered her voice even more after a brief pause and said, “I want you to hold me tonight.”

That way, she could sleep better.

It seemed that Fu Cheng stood up on his end and took a few steps forward. The only sound was the gentle flow of a stream nearby, apart from which there was nothing else to be heard.

“Besides holding you?” Fu Cheng asked in a low voice, “Do you also want to be spanked?”

Youyi fell silent on her end. Fu Cheng’s words, heavy with a hint of teasing, reached her ears with a lingering, husky tone: “Spanked on the butt.”

Which Youyi particularly liked.

A gentle spanking when she lay on his lap.

Youyi: “…”

The surrounding silence was almost palpable.

It felt like being in a deep abyss where no echoes could be heard.

Youyi swallowed hard.

She changed the topic, asking, “How’s everything at the base? Is it manageable?”

“It’s within expectations,” Fu Cheng briefly explained the issues that had arisen. Since Youyi had participated in off-road training before, she understood what Fu Cheng was talking about.

“The safety issues still need improvement. In unfamiliar areas like this, every safety measure needs to be executed to the highest standard.”

Youyi glanced at the time.

She had been out for ten minutes.

So, she ended the call and hurried back to the department.

A few nurses in the department were discussing what had just happened and came over to comfort her when they saw her.

“Such people lack manners. Don’t let it bother you.”

Youyi, with her beauty, gentleness, and good temperament, was well-liked, and everyone was willing to look out for her. After what had happened, they all voiced their displeasure on her behalf.

It wasn’t Youyi’s fault at all.

“How shameless! I was giving his wife an injection, and he took the chance to touch my hand.” Another nurse scolded, “Ugh!”

Youyi shook her head, “I’m fine.”

“Let me recommend Dr. Xiang from our department. He has a master’s degree, is good-looking, and has great character. Although he’s still rotating, with his abilities, he’ll surely excel in the future.”

This nurse was clearly trying to set up a match for Dr. Xiang.

Sometimes, they had this hobby of matchmaking, especially for good-looking singles, feeling compelled to play matchmaker.

“Thank you for your kindness, but there’s no need.”

“Senior Sister knows,” Youyi said, “I’m already married.”

She was still in university as an undergraduate. While having a boyfriend was understandable given her looks, everyone was surprised when she mentioned being “married.”

The silence that followed was deafening.

“Senior Sister Hui, is it true?” the nurse asked her senior.

The senior nodded and added, “On the day Youyi joined our department, I even considered introducing her to my cousin. She told me right away that she was married.”

“And has been married for over a year.”

A burst of astonishment.

“That’s a pity for Dr. Xiang,” It was clear that the news of Youyi’s marriage would spread throughout the department by the next morning.

Youyi smiled.

She took out her phone and opened Meituan[1]Meituan is a major Chinese technology company that operates a comprehensive platform for various lifestyle services, primarily focused on local on-demand delivery. It was founded in 2010 and has … Continue reading.

“I’ll treat everyone to milk tea, order whatever you want.” It’s her way of thanking everyone for helping her and speaking up for her today.

Everyone cheered and quickly moved on from the incident.

On the third day of Fu Cheng’s business trip, he said that things were not over yet.

After leaving the department, Youyi went to his company to pick up something.

Youyi rarely visited Fu Cheng’s company—only a few times, actually—but even so, everyone there knew her.

They all recognized her as the boss’s wife.

Fu Cheng’s office was on the second floor. Youyi walked inside to the innermost office, which was Fu Cheng’s.

His desk was very simple, with nothing but a computer on it. On the corner of the desk, there was a photo of Youyi.

There was also a flower pot on the windowsill, which was also bought by Youyi.

Although he didn’t often sit in the office, it was still his place, and the flower added some color to the otherwise dull space.

That’s how Youyi felt.

She took what she needed from the drawer and quickly left.

At the meeting room door, she ran into the woman again.

They both froze when they saw each other, and Youyi was the first to react.

The woman remembered her as Fu Cheng’s neighbor.

A so-called neighbor remembered because she was good-looking.

A year ago, things that didn’t make sense then were now clarified. The woman smiled and said, “Fu Cheng’s girlfriend?”

Youyi shook her head, “No.”

The woman thought she was lying and said, “I used to pursue him. To be honest, I like that type. He’s the most to my liking I’ve seen in years.”

Who doesn’t like a tall, hormonally charged man? Even though she didn’t know his character, his physique and face were enough to make her fall for him.

“Although he rejected me, the collaboration was still pleasant.”

Fu Cheng had rejected her calmly and decisively, despite her being so well-dressed that day.

“Is it because you live across from each other that you are closer to the water and get to see the moon first?”

Of course, she was just making a random guess. It had been a long time since this happened. Apart from feeling a little unwilling, there was nothing else she felt. After all, she didn’t put in much effort.

She was just curious about how she managed to win over Fu Cheng.

Youyi smiled, her eyes soft and watery.

“I’m his wife.”

Compared to a year ago when she was sulking and pretending to be unfamiliar, she could now openly acknowledge their relationship.

Sheis Fu Cheng’s wife.

The woman was stunned for a few seconds, weighing the truth of her words. Seeing that she didn’t seem to be lying, she suddenly felt like a fool.

“He’s a very intimidating person,” the woman said, her smile slightly stiff, “I actually feel a bit relieved now.”

Relieved that she didn’t continue to pursue Fu Cheng during that time, realizing that someone like him was beyond her control.

“Madam,” someone called from behind, “The boss asked me to take you back.”

“Okay,” she responded.

Youyi politely nodded at her and then turned to head downstairs.

She didn’t seem this reasonable when she pretended to be a quarreling couple with him… I guess she is the type who enjoys living out the fantasy through humble bragging to strangers. It is a dangerous game for her though, considering that sometimes neighbors are the biggest gossips and the rumor she was initiating by pretending to be close could cause him trouble. That is not a good move to pull even if he liked her back, which he didn’t. Staking a claim like that is NOT pursuing someone and purely a method of self satisfaction.
