The next morning, a single-layer oven, about half a meter long and over 20 centimeters high, was delivered. After it was installed, Qin Feng headed out to buy ingredients. The day after tomorrow, he had to accompany Nannan on a spring outing, so he planned to make plenty of snacks, including the cola chicken wings she had been craving.
First, he went to the supermarket and bought several bags of mung bean flour and other ingredients. Then, he grabbed a few large bags of chicken wings and some cola before heading back.
“Master, what new dish are you planning to make with all these ingredients?”
Qiao Lu saw Qin Feng return with bags of groceries and quickly went to help.
“It’s for Nannan’s spring outing, so I’m preparing some snacks.”
Qin Feng smiled and explained before heading to the kitchen to get busy. The mung bean cake could be prepared in advance and stored.
Qiao Lu followed closely, watching as he poured the mung bean flour and other ingredients into a large bowl and began mixing. She focused intently, eager to learn.
Seeing her interest, Qin Feng explained with a smile, “Making mung bean cake is simple. You need mung bean flour, powdered sugar, sesame oil, wheat flour, and red bean paste. Mix them together, mold them, and then steam them. As a top-notch chef, mastering desserts is also essential.”
While speaking, he had already finished mixing the mung bean flour. Taking out a set of molds he had purchased, he packed the mixture into them and placed them in the steamer.
“Wow, it smells amazing!”
After ten minutes, a fragrant aroma filled the kitchen. Qiao Lu leaned over and took a deep sniff.
“It’s ready. Later, pack these mung bean cakes into boxes,” Qin Feng instructed as he moved to the front of the store and leisurely made himself some tea.
Qiao Lu picked up a piece of mung bean cake to taste. It was soft and fragrant, with a slight sweetness and a chewy texture. She loved it immediately.
In no time, she had eaten four or five pieces and only stopped when she was full.
Meanwhile, Xu Fei cleared her schedule for the spring outing.
“Feifei, this event is really important. How could you just cancel it without a word? It’s a great opportunity to boost your popularity,” her agent, Tang Hong, complained with an unhappy expression.
Xu Fei’s decision to cancel the event meant Tang Hong lost a significant commission. Before getting married, Xu Fei had been a nationwide sensation, but her popularity plummeted after her marriage. Now, she could only rely on her past fame, taking on smaller gigs to stay afloat.
“Sis Tang, it’s just an event. Tomorrow, I’m going on a spring outing with my daughter. My priorities are on her now,” Xu Fei said, patting Tang Hong’s hand to comfort her.
Hearing this, Tang Hong sighed. Xu Fei was more of a housewife now than a celebrity.
As Xu Fei went to the balcony for some air, Wang Qiang entered with a bouquet of roses.
“Feifei, how about dinner tonight at Yang Ming Restaurant? I heard there’s a new chef there who makes amazing food,” Wang Qiang said with a smile as he handed her the flowers.
“No need, Wang Qiang. I know your feelings, but I already have a child and a husband. We’re better off as friends,” Xu Fei replied, having made up her mind to focus on her family.
“Feifei, have you forgotten how Qin Feng treated you? He’s only being nice now because he wants you to take him back,” Wang Qiang protested, visibly frustrated.
“I believe he’s genuinely changed. After all, we’ve been married for years, and I know him well,” Xu Fei said as she walked away.
Wang Qiang clenched his fists tightly, unwilling to give up on what he had almost achieved.
The next morning, at six o’clock, Qin Feng arrived at the restaurant to blanch the chicken wings and prepare cola chicken wings. Xu Fei would soon pick them up for the outing.
After an hour of work, he packed the freshly made cola chicken wings into a large thermal box and headed home.
“Daddy, I’m up!”
At eight o’clock, Nannan got up right on time, washed up, and eagerly prepared for the outing. She had stayed up late the night before out of excitement.
“Good girl. Eat your steamed buns and drink your soy milk,” Qin Feng said as he prepared mosquito repellent, knowing there would be plenty of bugs outdoors.
Half an hour later, Qin Feng carried a large thermal box in one hand, filled with a hundred cola chicken wings, and two big boxes of mung bean cakes in the other. Nannan bounced along happily in front of him.
Downstairs, Xu Fei pulled up in her car.
“Mama!”
Nannan ran up to her mother and jumped into her arms.
“Come here, baby! Mommy will carry you,” Xu Fei said, kissing Nannan on the cheek before putting her into the car.
Qin Feng couldn’t help but stare at Xu Fei. Dressed in athletic wear with her long hair draped over her shoulder, she exuded youthful energy mixed with a hint of allure.
Noticing his gaze, Xu Fei waved a hand in front of his face and teased, “What’s wrong?”
“You look stunning today,” Qin Feng said with a smile, secretly wondering how the old “Qin Feng” had managed to upset such a gorgeous wife.
“You’ve seen me countless times, but lately, you’ve become such a sweet talker. Get in the car!” Xu Fei replied, her face calm, but her heart warmed by his compliment.
The three of them headed to the kindergarten, where everyone was gathering for the spring outing.
Upon arrival, Qin Feng and Xu Fei saw a large crowd of parents and children at the gate.
“Nannan’s parents, please put your items on the bus and then board with your child. We’ll depart together,” said Nannan’s teacher, Xu Ru, as she greeted them.
“There are a lot of people. Looks like a big group is going,” Qin Feng remarked, glancing around.
Xu Ru nodded. “Yes, we’re taking four classes, with over sixty children and their parents. It’s a large group. Our bus is here—please board.”
Qin Feng helped Xu Fei and Nannan onto the bus before carefully storing the snacks.
Once everything was settled, he boarded and took a seat behind Xu Fei and Nannan. Shortly after, a man in a designer suit and gold watch sat down beside him, radiating an air of arrogance.
Yang Tai sat down, glanced at Qin Feng, and started complaining, “Why do we have to take a school bus? It’s so cramped! My suit is worth a fortune, you know.”
Ignoring him, Qin Feng put on his headphones and started listening to music, choosing peace over confrontation.
