Zang Ling stayed in Yan Wenshu’s hometown for one more day. When the two returned to City C, she inevitably experienced another bout of motion sickness during the journey. Once they left City S, she seriously discussed with Yan Wenshu the possibility of relocating a family grave.
She truly never wanted to visit that place again.
Now, Zang Ling was quietly tailing Yan Wenshu. Today was the day he had arranged to meet with Yuan Haolang.
She watched as Yan Wenshu entered a café. After waiting for a moment, she pulled her hat brim low and walked in nonchalantly.
Just as she took a seat not far from them, a server approached and asked, “Miss, would you like to order something?”
Startled, she froze, not daring to make a sound. She instinctively glanced at Yan Wenshu. Seeing no reaction from him, she quickly lowered her voice and said, “Just give me the most expensive item on the menu.”
Once the server left, she quickly propped up the menu on the table to hide her face, leaving only her eyes visible as she stared forward.
What were they talking about now?
Zang Ling subconsciously leaned forward, trying to hear more clearly.
“What are you doing here? Where’s Zang Ling?” Yuan Haolang looked at Yan Wenshu with irritation. He had come under the impression that it was Zang Ling who had arranged this meeting.
“Are you really that disappointed in seeing me here?” Yan Wenshu replied calmly. “Well, too bad. I’m the one who came.”
“What do you want?” Yuan Haolang shot him a disdainful look. “Coming to beg for your mother’s relics?”
“I’m telling you—unless you break up with her, forget it. Unless…”
He curled his lips. “You’ve finally come to your senses.”
Yan Wenshu didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he asked, “How do I know you’re telling the truth? I didn’t even know my mother had left anything behind. How would you know?”
“If you want my cooperation, you need to show some proof.”
Yuan Haolang spoke with calculated precision and arrogance. He lifted his chin. “I already said—only after you break up with Zang Ling will I tell you where and what it is. Otherwise, don’t expect a word from me.”
[Host, what should we do? The male lead won’t say anything.]
The system fretted nervously. [Is breaking up with Zang Ling really your only option?]
If they broke up, wouldn’t that mean the mission was a complete failure?
Yan Wenshu calmly stood up. “It’s a pity our negotiation failed. I’m leaving now. I’ll just pretend I never saw the message you sent.”
Zang Ling, seeing Yan Wenshu suddenly stand up, grew even more curious about what was going on. After thinking for a moment, she carefully shifted seats and sat at the far lower-left corner. At this point, only one seat separated them.
Zang Ling nodded in satisfaction—she could hear better from here. She continued to hide her face behind the menu, secretly peeking at the situation over there.
Yuan Haolang’s calm expression changed. This went completely against his plan. Without time to think, he hastily called out, “Wait a second!”
Seeing his reaction, Yan Wenshu understood immediately—whatever “relic” he had mentioned was just a smokescreen.
“What else do you have to say?” His gaze remained emotionless.
Yuan Haolang said, “Sit back down. Let’s talk this through.”
“There’s nothing left to discuss.”
Yan Wenshu looked down at him. “I won’t break up with Zang Ling.”
Hearing the key words, Zang Ling’s ears perked up. She glared daggers at Yuan Haolang, her eyes blazing with fire. That hateful guy—what right did he have to try to break them up?
Busybody!
Yuan Haolang looked up at Yan Wenshu’s superior stance and felt annoyed. His tone turned dark. “So you’ve been lying to me this whole time?!”
“I never lied to you. Yuan Haolang, I just don’t understand. You already have a girlfriend—why are you so insistent that I break up with Zang Ling?”
Yuan Haolang, seeing his emotions suddenly flare up, assumed Yan was cracking under pressure. He sneered, “It’s just a wealthy family alliance. Why are you taking it so seriously? After I marry Zang Ling, she can still keep seeing you like normal. But during the time we’re trying for a baby, you two will have to cut off contact.”
“I don’t want my future heir to be a bastard.”
Just then, a loud bang rang out behind them—someone had slammed the table hard.
Yuan Haolang glanced over and saw someone fully disguised, their identity hidden. Uninterested, he looked away and continued:
“Think about it—an alliance between Tianhai and the Yuan Group is a great thing, right? The stock value of both companies will skyrocket. Then we build up a model-couple image. The market will only go higher and higher, and our net worth will multiply!”
Yan Wenshu replied, “You tell me not to take it seriously, yet your words are all over the place. Why should I believe you? Does Han Lanmeng know about this disgusting plan of yours?”
Yuan Haolang replied indifferently, “Of course she knows. She loves me. She listens to everything I say. But she’s not the point right now—you are. Are you leaving or not? Just say the word.”
“If Zang Ling is doing well, isn’t that the same as you doing well? Once she gives birth to my heir, I’ll give her back to you. Problem solved.”
Yan Wenshu snapped, “Zang Ling isn’t an object. She has the right to choose for herself. If she wants to be with you, I’ll respect that…”
Yuan Haolang impatiently interrupted, “Cut the crap! If she wanted to marry me, would you even still be in the picture? Zang Ling might have a choice—but you don’t. So think carefully. What’s more important—your mother, or Zang Ling?”
Zang Ling saw Yan Wenshu standing there dejectedly and her heart ached. Yuan Haolang must have threatened him somehow! She picked up the coffee that had just been served and marched forward furiously.
“So?” Yuan Haolang looked smug as he watched Yan Wenshu’s troubled face. “Have you thought it through—”
Before he could finish, a faceful of coffee was suddenly thrown at him.
Yuan Haolang was speechless
His face instantly darkened.
Zang Ling smiled and casually set the coffee cup down. “Oops, my hand slipped. I didn’t mean to.”
The strong scent of coffee hit his nose, and his hair was still dripping. Yuan Haolang looked down to see a large stain on his collar, then looked up at Zang Ling with a gaze that could kill.
“What the hell—you again? What does this have to do with Yan Wenshu?!”
