Not long after they finished cleaning the graves, the group of people came to Yan Wenshu’s house to find Zang Ling.
She readily gave them what they wanted.
Since Yan Wenshu’s house had been unoccupied for many years, the corners were covered in dust and garbage. The two of them spent four hours just cleaning.
By the time they realized it, it was almost nine o’clock. After a long day of work, Zang Ling could hardly keep her eyes open.
However, Yan Wenshu’s house had two rooms, and only the bed in his room was in decent condition—barely suitable for sleeping. The bed in the other room had broken slats at the bottom and couldn’t be used.
In the end, they decided that Zang Ling would sleep on the bed, and Yan Wenshu would sleep on the floor.
Zang Ling had asked him to sleep on the bed too, but he stubbornly refused. She was puzzled as to what kind of beast or wild ghost she seemed to be for him to be so afraid.
The light in the room was left on, its dim yellow glow not very clear, but it added an ambiguous atmosphere.
“I’m not afraid of you. I’m just worried…”
Lying on the bed, Zang Ling heard his voice and suddenly realized she had spoken her thoughts out loud.
“Worried about what?”
“Worried that I might not be able to resist doing something to you.”
Zang Ling was speechless.
She couldn’t help but burst out laughing, “Is that it?”
Turning over to lie on her side, facing Yan Wenshu, she struck a seductive pose and gave him a flirtatious look. “Come, baby, I’m ready.”
Yan Wenshu turned to look at her, a smile at the corner of his lips. “The environment here isn’t great. Let’s save it for next time.”
Zang Ling’s lips curved upward. “Okay.”
They both knew they were joking, but that didn’t change the cheerful mood between them.
“Zang Ling.”
Yan Wenshu rarely called her by her name, but in this moment, Zang Ling felt something special. She propped up her chin, her gaze fixed on him, and raised an eyebrow with interest. “What’s up?”
Yan Wenshu, however, lowered his gaze, his tone heavy. “I just saw on my phone… that Tianhai and the Yuan family are planning to marry.”
Everywhere she looked, there were pictures of Zang Ling and Yuan Haolang together, which was… extremely bothersome.
Zang Ling seemed to have heard a huge joke. “What gossip entertainment news are you reading? That’s all fabricated information.”
“However, no media would dare report on this now, did you misread it?”
Yan Wenshu: “No, the whole internet is discussing this. Everyone is saying that you and Yuan Haolang are a perfect match…”
“Huh?”
Zang Ling couldn’t believe what she had just heard. She quickly picked up the phone from under her pillow and glanced at it.
Then, she went silent.
[Young master Yuan Haolang and beautiful boss Zang Ling are about to tie the knot, a strong alliance between two powerful families, who can compete?]
[The top godly face in the wealthy circle is getting married, and the country loses another golden bachelor! Girls are crying and begging for him not to.]
[Yuan Haolang publicly expresses his love for Zang Ling, what made them fall in love?]
What kind of nonsense is this!
Zang Ling suddenly shot up from the bed with a start, clenched her fist, and angrily hit the bed. But she forgot that the bed only had a thin mattress on it, and the next second, her hand hit the hard wooden slats, causing sharp pain in her knuckles.
“Hiss—”
“Are you okay…?”
“I’m fine.” Zang Ling paused for a moment and immediately pretended nothing happened, gritting her teeth as she said, “Who! Who spread these rumors? I’m going to sue them!”
“Yan Wenshu, don’t believe it. It’s all made-up nonsense. The article says I had dinner with Yuan Haolang yesterday, but do you not know where I was yesterday?”
Yan Wenshu of course knew. What he hadn’t said was that Yuan Haolang had sent a message earlier, claiming that he had found his mother’s relic. If Yan Wenshu didn’t break up with Zang Ling, he would burn the relic.
Yan Wenshu was suspicious of this relic, as it wasn’t part of the original plan in his previous life. He couldn’t be sure of the truth or reliability of this information.
But what if it’s the butterfly effect? What if it’s true…
He suddenly smiled faintly, his eyes deep as the sea. If that was the case, he would let Yuan Haolang’s hope be shattered.
“Yan Wenshu, quickly check Tianhai’s official Weibo!” Zang Ling urged suddenly.
Yan Wenshu shifted his gaze back to his phone and opened Tianhai’s Weibo. The latest post caught his attention:
Tianhai V: Huh, I seem to remember our boss has her own boyfriend, but his last name isn’t Yuan.
This post quickly shot to the top of Weibo’s trending list, with tens of thousands of comments, likes, and shares in just half an hour.
“The PR department called me about this half an hour ago to tell me, but we were cleaning, and my phone was on silent, so I didn’t see it in time.” Zang Ling felt very regretful. If she had known, she wouldn’t have put it on silent.
Missing the opportunity to stop the spread of rumors led to this public uproar.
Zang Ling said coldly, “The Yuan family even waited until almost bedtime to pull a stunt. Looks like the last warning didn’t work on them.”
“Yan Wenshu, do you have a Weibo? Tell me your account.”
Yan Wenshu recited a series of numbers, then got up and walked to her bed. Under Zang Ling’s surprised gaze, he bent down, extended his hands, and seeing that she was sitting motionless on the bed, asked in confusion, “Aren’t you supposed to hug*[1]the chinese for hug 抱 and tell 報 sounds the same me? Did I hear wrong?”
Zang Ling froze for a moment.
Then she realized something, and her face revealed a hint of excitement. She actively opened her arms to hug his waist, affirming, “No, I just want to hug.”
” I’ll post on my Weibo and @ you later. Remember to reply to me.”
Yan Wenshu understood her intentions. He gently stroked her back, and in a position where Zang Ling couldn’t see, he slightly curled his lips, though his voice held a trace of unease as he asked, “By doing this, would’ve meant you slapped Yuan Haolang right across the face. The Yuan family definitely won’t let this slide. How about when we get back, I’ll talk to Yuan Haolang and clear things up? Maybe he can help us.”
“Yan Wenshu, you’re wrong.”
Zang Ling let go of him and said seriously, “It’s not about him helping us. Whether we’re together or not has nothing to do with him.”
“You don’t need to go. Even if you do, he won’t listen to you.”
Yan Wenshu said earnestly, “I want to try.”
“I haven’t had a chance to talk to him alone for so long. Maybe there’s something bothering him that made him act this way. I want to see if I can convince him.”
“Yan Wenshu…”
Zang Ling looked at him with a complex expression, and finally sighed, “You’re just too kind.”
She couldn’t bear to let him know about all the dark information.
“Well, you can go. But if he bullies you, don’t endure it. Remember to call me. Of course, that’s just a suggestion…”
In any case, she would go with him.
